What's the one set you will never EVER use again?

No it doesn't. Those mechanics were added in issue 3. It used to be worse. So much worse.

Ya, it started out as a full root so teleport wasn't just a really really good idea, it was absolutely required.

One bonus for Stone Armor is the -Fly component it has. You teleport somewhere and bam, you drop to the ground and can either move again (if you have Speed Boost), or you can excute grounded required PBAoEs.

Currently, my Stone Armor chararcters are the only characters I haven't respec'd out of teleport since the great 'you will hover and not be able to move anywhere for 4 seconds' change of issue forever ago. RIP Teleport pool.

Illusion Control: When I got my Patron Pool powers and got an actual ATTACK, I ran around giddy with excitement blasting everything I could find, which convinced me that Ill was probably not for me. I actually got the character to 50 because I made it for a weekly team, AND then setted it out for perma-PA, which just meant that my boring uncontrollable pets could bore me 100% of the time.

Dark Melee: Even when Shadow Maul hits I hate the slow flailing animation of my only AoE that doesn't recharge in geological time. And them I miss and I hate it a thousand times more. God, you stupid, stupid character, you MISSED already. Stop DOING that.

Super Strength: Footstomp - some filler attack with a boring animation - some other filler attack with a boring animation - and another filler attack with another boring animation - Footstomp. So much fun!

Spines: I ran a Spines and a Claws scrapper up to 50 in parallel, and I just love the Claws animations and sound effects so much more that I can't make myself care about losing an extra damage aura. Spines is fine, really, I'd just always roll Claws instead.

Empathy. I don't think there's enough value in it as a set at high levels, and at low levels I don't want to encourage the kind of players who think they need it.

Storm is another sore subject. It just doesn't mesh with my play style.

Believe it or not, Empathy at high levels on a good IO build is like a Ranged Regen character.
You trade mitigation and mezz protections for more frequent reconstructions and AOE powers.

This is speaking from a Defender perspective though.

I played a Mind/Emp controller back in Issue One into the 30s and THAT is something I will never do again for sure. Empathy on a controller is uhmm, not fun on a team, unless your into 100% support. I like to shoot stuff too much.

dual blades - I really love the look, but most of the powers are bad and you end up using just a few. And you really have no tricks. You just cycle through a couple of chains. It is a mindless set

Probably energy aura.

Every time I nearly try a toon with it, I look at the numbers on its defences, shake my head and go for something else.

[edit] I have been informed EA has been changed since I last played it so I will look in to it again.

After talking about my one Illusion Control character in another thread... I'm pretty sure Illusion Control is on my list of 'powersets to not do again.' but 'never EVER' is strong.

Actually, I have 2. Storm Summoning and Super Reflexes, I abhor them both passionately.

This thread sure demonstrates "different stroked for different folks." I see a lot of my favorite sets getting the hate here. I have to restrain myself from defending them, since of course it's mostly a discussion of personal preference.

Generally I don't have any sets I rule out, but I'm not at all inspired by the gun sets -- Assault Rifle and Dual Pistols. Mostly because of the fact that anyone in real life can use guns, they just don't feel inherently super-hero-y, so to speak.

I suppose if I wanted to make an armed ballet dancer, I would use Dual Pistols.

It very well could have been impatience on my part, but I found my kin/shield brute to be just truly ineffective in damage, defense and resistance. I'd finally gotten Shield charge, and found that to be completely awkward and hardly useful. I couldn't even live past a fury of 110% most of the time.

I hadn't yet figured out the mysteries of Mids', so that was part of it, and placing the shield charge reticle in most maps to be incredibly awkward - so much so, that I deleted that toon at level 40.

Despite having learned a great deal more about mids' and different IO sets, the silly animations - almost as silly as dual pistols- were enough to have me swear off those sets for quite some time.

Another combo I won't use is kin/rad defender. Kin I will probably choose again, and */rad I may choose again, but not both together. Kin doesn't offer a lot of IO set possibilities in the primary, and the two sets together just didn't seem to mesh well with me. I still have the toon at level 36, and will eventually finish leveling the toon, but it is low on my list of priorities.

I have exactly one Stone Armor character, who has taken years just to get to his SOs. I consider trying to build a new one every once in a while, because I actually kinda like the look of it (minus Granite Armor), but the set is just so flat-out worse than pretty much every other set in terms of execution, and the general feeling of "anything Stone can do, Willpower does better" just kills my interest, every time.

On the flip side, for reasons of style rather than substance, I also tend to lose motivation for making new Kinetic Melee characters, not because I dislike the set mechanically, but because I think Concentrated Strike is really, really, really stupid looking, and I can't imagine wanting to play the set after hitting 32.

Traps. I know theyre crazy effective. But I cant get into the playstyle. ...No, thats a lie. If the FFG would freaking keep up with me, I'd love this set.

Fire melee. I hate the flaming fist/flaming sword combat. One or the other so I could have a concept around it please.

Peacebringers. ...kind of. I know I'll make another attempt at one again. Such an awesome set of powers hampered by such ANNOYING caveats. No mez protection, crazy kb, ugly forms that take to long to enter... sigh...

There are really only a few sets that I would probably stay away from in the future. The first one that comes to mind is Willpower, believe it or not. I have a SS/WP Brute at 50 that I thoroughly enjoy, but WP as a set is boring to me mechanically, aesthetically, and conceptually. I'm at a point in this game where I want to try every set eventually, but WP will only take up that one Brute's slot and that's it.

The only other set I would add to this list is Dark Melee, which I leveled to 50 on a DM/Nin Stalker. It's not a bad set or anything, and the character works decently, but I think I would have much rather played the Scrapper or Brute versions of the set.

Actually, no. I will NEVER play Poison again until it gets improved upon. My 50 Necro/Poison hates not being able to keep his pets alive. The support of Poison really doesn't do a whole lot of supporting. If Venemous Gas could be a PBAoE for MM's it would probably entice me to play that character again. I'd also take a worthwhile heal, that would be nice. Even with the most recent changes, I don't feel like the set supports me, my pets, or my teammates enough to warrant investing my time in it.

Very busy toon, 3 months to get to 50 because it was harder to level then, and then I stated IOing her... Got her to permahasten in i11 or so, after that she was like 'Imma Mass confuse this groups, now Fort the blaster, wait the auras are recharged, now Terrify the groups, lemme sleep the other, this guy needs CM, oops Fort is up again, gotta hold the boss, this one is attacking the defender imma mesmerize-levitae-dominate, the scrapper needs healing, who do I use Fort now, oh time for Adrenalin Boost again OH MY GOD I'M IN MULTITASKING HELL'. She has 7 keybinds iirc. Had tons of fun with her but that's why my second 50 was a scrapper

Powersets/ATs I got to 20-40 and have no desire to play again: Willpower (bland), Warshades (don't like the gimmicks to achieve max potential like targetting dead bodies, changing forms a ton, Mires, felt like too much work to do things other ATs can do with few clicks, mine was also full of keybinds), Elec Blast (couldn't 'feel' the set).

There are always the ones I have no desire to level due to aesthetic reasons, like KM (animations don't appeal to me) and StJ (hate the sounds).

But this game is fun because even 4 years and some later, I can find a powerset I never played and I'm enjoying (Energy Blast, MA, Thermal, Storm).

THIS is the way I feel these days about my very first 50 level.. my Ill/Emp. First there is the epathy side of the sets .. I am not now nor have I ever been the type of Emp that just puts Aura on auto and assumes I have done my job. I have fort slotted so it comes back in about 30 seconds so I am constantly using that on some one. Unless its against a group that has no Mez, good luck on that at higher levels, I am constantly hitting folks with CM. I keep the team roster visable so anyone showing signs of trouble gets healed quickly.. In short just constantly scanning and clicking to do my best to keep the team buffed and healthy. Then as you mentioned .. get on a PUG that splits up and like an idiot I find myslef trying to run back and forth to do all that to 2 seperate smaller teams in different locations on the map. I have had missions where I barely got to use my attacks.

Then I added Illusion which is great for soling. I enjoyed sneaking into a building, confusing everything in sight and then sending in the pets to mop up while they battled each other. BUT .. on teams when the pets are gone I had almost no significant attacks.

The character is semi retired now and I have no desire to every make another.

I generally try and avoid a powerset once ive used it, unless it is the only thing that would fit a concept(for example willpower or traps, there arent enough natural powersets)

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.

I don't like combining sets with clickies with sets with redraw very much. One of my first characters was a Katana/Reflexes scrapper, she's fun, but every time the Mez Resist goes off, it seems like I'm in the middle of combat, so I get stuck with redraw. It's not as annoying on my MA/nin Stalker.

I doubt I'll make another MM. I have Bots/FF and I agree that it's just kinda boring watching them shoot everything for me.

I'll likely never play /Regen, I tried it and didn't like it. I have an AR/Devices blaster and I likely won't do either of those again.

I keep meaning to try /Invuln but the way Dull Pain works messes with my head.

Probably Claws. Between a Brute and a Night Widow, I don't think I could stand to roll another one. Not that either one is bad, but I try to not roll two characters with the same set.

Electric Blast: Inferior damage in return for a nearly useless secondary effect barring some awkward specialist build. If I want a sapper I'll play an Electric Controller/Dom; Electric Control is sapping done right.

Stone Armor; Granite has just too severe penalties, especially for brutes and since I can't stand tanks...

/regen just way too clicky for my taste
/fire armor. The only thing it excels at is fire farming
In fact any melee secondary that has a rez built in sets off an alarm that screams
"This is a set that is designed specifically to eat dirt"

Any purely support combos, and defenders in general. And probably not any blasters either.

I find it interesting that Regen is one of the most frequently mentioned sets on here. Same with EM. They used to be awesome sets, nut since there "changes" they lost alot of popularity.

To update my list:

Regen

Em

Stone Armor

Km

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?
