What's the one set you will never EVER use again?
The entire Mastermind AT.
They're great, super powerful when done properly. I like that. A lot. But... the pet sets never match my concept quite right as I can't customize my pets. I'd settle for at least summoning thugs that look the same each time. That and the support secondary makes me feel like I'm taking a backseat to WATCH my own powerset win for me. Yeah, I know there are three attacks built into the primary but I can't handle the anemic damage. I like hitting things and I like hitting them hard. Back to ANY OTHER archetype I go!
....Except maybe Defenders...
>.<
It's actually making me wonder what kind of personality plays Ice Control habitually? I have 3 level 50 Ice Control characters... out of only 12 50s. I have more Ice Control 50s than melees of any AT--I have 2 of those total, and they are just Brute and Scrapper versions of the same character.
I don't know what it is about Arctic Air I can't get enough of. It's just such a weird power, and any time I play another game I always quickly go, "Yep, nothing like AA in this game, gotta go back." And yet the set itself is not what I'd call crazy powerful, and I can see a lot of people really hating it. |
"I have something to say! It's better to burn out then to fade away!"
I am actually encountering the same thing with Masterminds. "Welp...I can't summon my own army...back to CoH!"
|
That's funny because Masterminds are the teammate I hate teaming with the more than any other.
Not all of them really though. Just demons and robots mainly, because they are huge and loud. I dont really notice the more humanoid pets. But, everyone plays Robots and Demons.
I do hope and pray for a day when MMs don't have to have all 6 pets out for max efficiency on teams, and can stick with 2 or 3. Especially ever since AoE shielding came out having them around feels blinding.

Bane spiders and Illusion.
Wanted: Origin centric story arcs.
If you've only played an AT once (one set combo) and "hate" it - don't give up. Roll a different combo. It may just be those sets not clicking for you.
What will I never EVER use again?
Masterminds. Can't stand 'em.
I'll probably never roll a VEAT, because the low levels are too boring for me.
I might roll a Controller with i22 (simply because I have a hilarious concept in mind), but other than that, no plans on rolling one. EVER. I'll roll my second Dominator with i22, and probably never roll another one.
I had a PB once, and tried a WS for a few levels... I'll probably never try either one again.
I honestly can't think of a single individual powerset that when I think of it, I think "I'm never trying THAT again..." Just entire AT's. >.>
I will never, as long as I play CoH, roll another Kinetics or Empathy of any AT.
I don't like repeating any powerset but on the list of ones that are highly unlikely to EVER see me playing them again:
Ice Armor
Gravity Control
Energy Melee
Of ocurse I never though I'd be doing Dark Armor again and currently am doing so.
Under construction
Warshades. I love Peacebringers (I've got a tri-form at 50 and a human-only at 40), but my one effort at being a warshade is stalled at 41 and I'll probably never go back to it.
Dark Armor. I've tried it a few times and I've never really gotten a feel for it. I do still have a lowbie broadsword/dark stalker hanging around, and that might be the breakthrough.
34 heroes,
20 villains, Victory, Justice, Infinity, Virtue, Triumph, Exalted -- some more active than others
Ah, I guess I asked to be attacked when I posted in this thread. I thought this thread was more on the lines of what would you never use again not what I would never play.
DP-Is a nice middle of the road set but I expected a little more out of it. It can be amazing when proc'd out but I think it needs a little more damage added to it. I have a DP/Kin that can really just devastate mobs but I consider DP a lot like Archery: A Great set, but without certain powers it can make leveling tough and sluggish. For me Archery and Dp didnt truly click until HoB and RoA...now keep in mind this is just my opinion BUT I see this echoed a lot in game and on the Forums. You may be right about DP but I can't help the way I feel about things. Psi Blast- I made a Psi/Nrg Blaster and I simply LOVED him but I was tired of faceplanting from certain mobs that would shake off my attacks...now keep in mind that they have buffed Psi Blast since then but I'm going on how I feel about the set when I played it. The immob was slow traveling and the activation took forever. A lot of the time critters would already be in my face before the immob/Kb hits. My feelings have nothing to do with what others say about Psi...it comes from what I have experienced. Maybe I should take another swing at it since things have changed *shrug* it will be a while since it left a bad taste in my mouth. Gravity is NOT the best control set in the game no matter how you look at it sorry. I love the idea of the set; I love Wormhole and Singy but never again (until the buff in beta hits heh, heh). The slow damage, the long activations you get stuck in, the long wait for wormhole, the many flaws of wormhole, it's all a bit rough. I must admit one thing though; Gravity has the Best pet in the game hands down. Singy is a force to be reckoned with he can hang with big mobs, EBs, Av's and even GMs and not break a sweat. Spines is amazing ONCE you get it to 50. Have you tried leveling a spines? You chain is pretty anemic and only the most devoted can level one without wanting to rip out their hair. |
Once again no attack was meant and I do apologize if I came off to personal.
Demon Masterminds. So much.
Every time I get on a team with one I secretly hope it will get knocked out and nobody will notice.
Call of the Sandman... oh wait you meant POWER sets not IO sets.
Energy Blast, Regeneration, the gimped version of Psy Blast that Blasters get, and THE ENTIRE PRESENCE POOL.
If I really wanted to fit AoE fear into a build I am smart enough to make a Mind Control (Terrify) or Dark Miasma (Fearsome Stare) toon, not try to waste a pool and two powers to get Invoke Panic on a toon with no business using it.. Oh hey Controllers, Dominators, Corruptors, and Defenders can all gain access to Power Boost and make these Cone Fears I mentioned even more godly than they already are, lookit that! AUGH presence sooo baaad auuughhhh Dark Miasma sooo goood.
"Look, personally I just want a new issue to feature changes that don't cause a mass exodus of players..."

How to suck at CoX
Literally the Best Build Ever: Years in the Making
WO quoting our resident thread troll, my comments on Support builds.
One of my beloved scrappers, and same toon as my forum handle, is a doctor. Yes he takes his energy sword and endlessly regenerating body and holds the front line to keep innocents safe. but should an ally be injured he is quick with a heal, should an ally fall then vengeance is had and once all is clear a res will be given.
In other words my scrapper is running a pool set more commonly seen on defenders.
Leadersip: all but the silly dmg boost toggle
Healing: all but the silly clear mind power
Teleport: Recall friend is all anyone really ever needs from this set sadly
Hasten: well I am regen after all
I call it the task force commander build as he leads alot of the core tfs frequently. Built to get any job done, and carry any team through it. Support doesnt always come with a noncombative mindset, nor is it one strictly determined by being female, because I am very much a male, and revel more in leading those who might otherwise falter and fail to victory then simply being so mighty i can do it all alone( i could but what would be the fun in being a bad *** without witnesses?)
As for most empaths being female characters. LOL REALLY? You honestly think a toon being female indicates a female pilot. Oh How I WISH THAT WAS TRUE.
Id lay money at least 3/4ths of all female toons in game are male players.
I try to avoid repeating anyway but I doubt I would ever roll a kinetics or a pain domination toon again.
Pain: it may have been because it was on a MM but damn was it incredibly (read "too") busy.
Kin: didn't care for it much to begin with to be honest.

Sorry if I came off sounding aggessive. My focus was not on you despite quoting you, but more to try and avoid more of the common these power suck myths I see popping up more and more lately.
Once again no attack was meant and I do apologize if I came off to personal. |
Stone Armor and Energy Melee.
Electric Blast (my 50 blaster sits unused)
Force Field a close second, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Since the thread calls for just one set, I will make mine Energy Melee. I won't try to make it out to be the worst set of the game, because I am sure it isn't. My problem isn't rooted entirely in the post-nerf performance of it either. I just flat out don't like the way it plays. It looks great, but it just doesn't feel good to me. Entirely subjective.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

Never say never.
I had made a Mace/Energy toon well before the "strong and pretty" jokes (or at least well before I became aware of them) and boy did it suck!
I came back to the game this summer after a few years off and heard Mace had been changed, so I made a Mace/Energy brute and having lots of fun with it. Pretty sure it's because the sets got better, not because I was wrong about it the firt time.
I have also never been able to stomach /poison (pun intended), but I am considering making a Beast/Poison themed MM when the set comes out
With the word 'again' I feel compelled to consider power sets I have used.
And at the moment, there's just one: Fire Melee. There's a power that exists in Fire Melee (I forget what it's called) that looks like my character is reaching out and going "coochie coochie coo" like my character is attempting to tickle my foe with fire.
The game ends at 50. Smilegasm
Do not ever give Mind Control a pet. We need more control sets without pets.
My characters are not "toons". They are all project characters, though.

I'll be reluctant with /empathy
You have to be a controller to do /empathy
My problem is when playing with idiots, the kind of idiot empathy doesn't save. To start I've logged on as a controller, there to control and if an idiot wants to take on the uncontrolled masses rather than controlled masses then that's fine only healing him is not my job and who I fort is a matter of choice. It's not the endgame where I can fort 6 people its the leveling up. Anyone who believes they should be the centre of my universe is an idiot.
