Not sure why that would be more or less obvious than anything anyone else has mentioned. If the OP asked for "The Brute with which you are most likely to farm" then I could see why that would be obvious.
  2. It's a toss up between my fire/fire/mu and my ss/sd/em. Unfortunately, I would probably have to say that I love my fire/fire the most. She is hell on earth... Non stop engine of destruction that thrills at every moment and never lets me down.

Tiffany Blaze was my first toon that I think I became addicted to. She was my first foray into IOs, and oddly enough, my first soft capped s/l toon. I had played a few toons before her, but none captivated me the way that she did. She stole my heart, cut it out of my body, and made me watch as she burnt it to a well done crisp and tossed it away. Of all of my toons- not just brutes- I will miss her the most.

    Where to now?

The Secret World is what I am thinking of too. It looks incredibly interesting and rich. The concept is stunning and the world just seems like it is well thought out and dark. I did download DCUO last night, but I am thinking that it may not work out because it might be too similar to CoH.

On another note, I just don't know if I have it in me to learn an entire game's combat system and ins and outs again. We all gave so much of our time to this wonderful community. I just don't know if I will ever be able to do it with another game.
  4. There is so much potential that we will never get to see here. Don't hold your emotions back- just let it out.

    - GAGGLES of new powersets
    - new lore/storylines and trials
    - no more hasten hands
    - a quiver for my arrows
    - continued community involvement with a wonderful playerbase and devs that truly care about the game

... and so much more. To send this game off in its prime in such an unceremonious way is awful.
  5. I don't know much about Titan Network, but I can tell that if you are up for saving the Cities that we have saved countless times, I will do what I can to pitch in.

Rather than this, I was thinking about letting them fall Iron Eagle's style. I will take them out on some TFs, SFs, trials and if they are defeated, it's permanent. Suicide doesn't quite do some of them justice. Though there are some I have been just itching to delete anyway... heh
  7. Now what would be very cool at the end is some kind of asteroid shower or ultra tsunami or other natural disaster that eradicates all life on all servers instantly. Come on- you owe us that at least, Devs! Make this game go out with a bang. If you're going to take this thing down, give it some kind of irresistible and memorable plight that takes down the most heroic and most villainous alike! Will you be kind enough to give us a hardcore sending off that we will never forget?

If that doesn't happen, I think I will become an Iron Eagle finally. It seems fitting now. No- I don't know who any of you true and blue Iron Eagles are that have often adopted this playstyle for a fun and different spin on things. But, since the end is drawing nigh, it does seem like a great way to retire toons permanently. Why not have them take a permanent dirt nap if they bite it in the next 90 days?

No stripping the toon out, or passing the wealth on to the next set of hungry hands. Once you plant, that's it. All of your belongings are returned to the soil just as you are. No rerollings. Just plain and simple wiping out of all the toons on my account if they don't make the cut.

    Thoughts?

But if you bring a Bane with Venom Grenade, Surveillance, and Mace Mastery: Shatter Armor for a perma 60% Resistance debuff, your entire league will be doing 8000 DPS. Granted it differs by AV, some resist the debuff more than others, YMMV. Against iTrial spawns you can still use Venom Grenade every time. By comparison, your Blaster can get a perma 14% Resistance debuff on a single target only with Surveillance. Your Brute and Scrappers can get under 10% with Melt Armor, which is AoE but not perma. If you don't take any of those powers, you'll be one of the unwashed masses who mistakenly thinks that the best thing you can bring to an iTrial is high personal DPS. Your Bane also has some decent team buffs than none of the others get. And it's melee! For regular play you can have an alt build as a Crab for fighting lower level content, big spawns, or whatever. Your Incarnate powers will work with both builds.

In second is the DB/Elec Brute. Self heal, damage toggle, 90% Energy Resist is great in iTrials, solid resist elsewhere, can soft-cap S/L Defense, and OK AoEs in DB.
Wow. The first non-doom post I have read since "The Announcement". Way to keep your head in the game, Doc. Thumbs up.
  9. Not sure why you decided to post this- or why it is more relevant now than before. I am glad you feel like sharing, but you could have kept this secret til they shut this thing down.

Not that there's anything wrong with Dual Blades. As mentioned, you get better AoE and flashier attacks. Assuming you use Divine Avalanche on Katana (the reason to take the set), Dual Blades will also do better single-target DPS. It's also nice to have Blinding Feint boosting your damage aura. I just don't consider Dual Blades the equal of Katana for mitigation. So it depends on what you're after.
Thanks for chiming in, Werner. I played Katana once before on a /sr scrapper. I'l be the first to admit I underestimated the value of Divine Avalanche. I suppose I never realized how much of a boon it is considering my pairing.

OP, I hope you are taking notes on this! You didn't say you specifically wanted mitigation, but if you want it, it seems that katana has considerable mitigation through + defense.
  11. A lot of people like to pair their /fa with a primary that has a lot of built in mitigation. Luckily, both of the primaries you mention have some mitigation built in and could help.

With dual blades, the sweep combo is useful in that it will help to knock enemies down and to keep them in your burn patch or blazing aura and mulch health while also giving you time to breathe and pop a healing flames if needed. This is friendly if you don't have IOs as it is fairly straightforward mitigation.

Katana has the much loved Divine Avalanche which will boost your melee and lethal defense with each application. This one is still incredibly useful, but I would argue that in SO only builds it won't do as much good as IOd builds that are built for defense. +Defense is helpful, but if you are starting from scratch and have 0 defense to boost, having a minimal boost is not incredibly helpful. (not sure of the exact value, or how much it can be enhanced, or even how many times it can stack, but you get my point?)

In the end, I would probably roll dual blades over katana if I were pairing it with fiery aura. Particularly if you are skipping IOs. Call me crazy, but I am crazy about sweep with /fa.

If you are open to it- I also hear that Battle axe and War mace can do stupid things with /fa and provide even more control than either of the primaries you mentioned.

  13. I have a lot of success with the proc in health on a brute of mine. (What can I say? I'm selfish on that toon...)

That said, I would put it in the toggle personally.
  14. A good point that Transfusion is a great primary heal, but I would still take it. Like others have said- it hits reasonably hard, heals you, and looks fantastic. I live by it on my wb/, but she is /cold and no heals are available via secondary.

The only way I would skip this is if I had a concept or if the build were extraordinarily tight.
  15. I thought was kind of the gimmick of the set- hard hitting attacks that are not the fastest animating, but still reasonably quick. It makes perfect conceptual sense to me. The weapon is heavy and somewhat cumbersome. It should be certainly be more broadsword than katana.

At the core, it sounds like you don't like the animations. I could understand this- but that isn't going to change unless we get some alternate animations, sadly.

Things start rocking and rolling on SOs and once again on IOs for Titan Weapons. For me, it happened even earlier than that.

I think you should maybe check out staff mastery. It picks up the speed a bit and the animations might be more to your taste.

Nobody does regen better than /Regen...period...Willpower can't do it...unless you don't count /Regen's clicks...but then...you shouldn't be able to count Willpower's scalar if you do that...and now you're right back at /Regen is better than /WP.

/Regen may not be for everybody, but I ran some Itrials last night, and my SS/Regen Brute 50+3 outsurvived a 50+3 WP tank....explain to me where /Regen is weak again?

    Just saying...
Never said it was weak. For the record, I played a regen stalker to mid 40s before deleting it. Glad you had such a smooth ride, but I didn't. For me, I admit that some of the problem could have been my pc and internet connection. The set does sometimes require precise timing. For someone that has lag issues and is not able to always click the right tool at exactly the right moment, there were certainly moments of frustration. And of course, there is the whole perspective of awesome or not, which another poster covered by calling it binary.

The set isn't the worst that I have played- but I have been in enough heavy burst damage situations in heavy lag and been one or two seconds too late on a heal to realize that it isn't the set for me.

I suppose I could have used different words in my initial post, but I do think that something could stand to be reviewed and or changed with regen. I pretty much agree with the OP that maybe putting IH back to a toggle is a good place to start.

Is it my opinion? Sure. You have yours and I have mine. Not fact. Just my experience.

That would be fair... if you were instantly 50 and instantly an incarnate. Think about the other 49 levels of gameplay as well here. Not to mention the fact that not everyone will have access to the incarnate system. Powersets shouldn't do a Jekyll/ Hyde if they reach into incarnate gameplay levels.

Also, rebirth is available to any incarnate, including those who already regen better than regen. This doesn't specifically help regen at all.

If anything, the fact that you point to external tools to shore up regen's abilities points to the fact that it needs help.

According to MIDS, Dehydrate does accept Accurate Healing Sets.

I think either Health or Endurance drain make sense conceptually. I am happy with the health syphon, it has saved my bacon more than a few times.
  19. I find the power annoying when people spam it like most others in this thread. It is situational, but I am so done with it that if I had the option of turning this specific power and its effects off forever in an options menu, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have been on trials where people do this to the point where it is clearly grievous. Those offenders were also kicked or voted off the map. I have also been on many trials (like UG) where it was used sparingly and appropriately.

I think most people see through the smoke of the power and realize that the buff is minor, negligible, and not terribly useful at that stage of game play. They take it because it is a team tp power that isn't disabled in some parts of the game where it might be useful. The griefers are the ones that think it is the creme de la creme and spam it.

What's really funny is that some people in this thread seem to think that it is only a problem on Freedom. Not surprising, as that seems to be the trend on the boards.

    Water Works

Could be thematically fun. Maybe will happen at some point. We do have tons of options for water like pairings though... With corrs you have /storm, /cold, /rad, /time which can all be easily re-colored into being watery.

What if you are on a task force where you are the only team member with a primary or secondary capable of healing others. IE- 7 meleers and 1 kin? You become the de facto "healer" (I cringe using that word).

If WW aren't being affected properly by Transfusion, I think it should be looked at. I can't say that I have experienced this though. I have taken several kins on Apex in recent memory and never noted the problem you mentioned, OP. Not saying it hasn't happened, but I just didn't notice it.
  22. I heard that- concept is king! I don't know much of the details, but Presence is apparently getting a revamp soon, so there may be more to like.

The only downside to tanking with a shield defense character are your basic defensive RNG rules apply and that you are a bright pink elephant. Everything will be taking a swing at you.

Without capped DDR, tanking in ITF or other defense debuff heavy situations can be harrowing at times, but you normally put things down before they put you down. Thanks to True Grit and other things like Tough, you can still have decent dmg resistance though.
  23. I have a tw/da that I got to about 37 or so. I went to other projects I found more interesting at the time. I will come back to this eventually because of the concept I created for my toon. The combo is pretty beastly on paper, but I am also terrified of the end use. I am also a little unclear on which auras to keep on my build as I have only done da once and deleted it at about 30 on a tanker.

The posters here have given solid advice- no matter how you cut it, you are going to have to build very carefully around endurance management with this combo.
  24. Why are you going into presence with your brute? Concept?

If you are looking for function, just grab taunt and call it a day.

Shields for brutes is capable of a lot- tanking is easy because you will be the center of attention with one of the strongest taunt auras in the whole game. You will pretty much always be the elephant in the room.

DPS is also easy because of the taunt aura. I don't have any experience with BS, but I can tell you that if your primary were dual sunflowers, against all odds would make your enemies instantly terrified of sunflowers. AAO is simply a sexy power. The more enemies surround you, the more your damage is buffed. The more enemies attack you as a brute, the more your damage is buffed. You see where this is going, right?

As far as the build goes, why not post a build you have started on? This will probably get you better results. Plus, you seem to have some specific things you want to fit in and skip, so posting a build you have mocked up is better.

You might want to head to the scrapper forums too. BS is a relatively new import for brutes, but I am sure you can probably find a scrapper build over there.
