Where to now?
I'm looking at Champions Online and Dungeon and Dragons Online.
Both are 'okay'.
Champions.
They have Warshades.
Kind of.
I may try out GW2 soon. Might try champions again, but first time I found it boring and came back to COH the next day.
Maybe LOTRO again. Those elf ladies...

There're a few possibilities for MMOs.
- I tried out Rift for a while I was on a break from City of Heroes and that was sort of decent enough.
- Couple of people left CoH for The Secret War a while back and while I'm not sure my computer can handle it, I was interested in it during development and it seems like a good alternative.
- I could always settle for second best and try Champions Online or DC Universe Online, the other two superhero MMOs which failed to take the crown from City of Heroes.
- Or just settle back to single-player games and multiplayer action games like Team Fortress 2.
Though I think it'll have to be another MMO. Other types of games either don't leave me with any significant sense of growth/progress or I don't get any sense of community or effective social interaction.

I'm thinking of trying out Guild Wars 2 though it depends if there's any form of refund for unused paragon points or sub time once the game goes down. If such a refund were to cover the cost of Guild Wars 2 then, technically, NCSoft didn't get any more money than they already had and the gem exchange means that I won't have to give them any of my money to get the stuff in the store.
Hmmm... to be honest, I'm not sure exactly which of these are or aren't mac-compatible. But maybe they'll be things to think about anyway.
Mechanically, I felt the closest to City in DDO. But it doesn't have travel powers and it's a bit of an instance hell.
Practically, Champions offers a lot of the same things that City does. But it's really pushing hard for a triforce play style right now -- which is a step up from "everybody's a damage-dealer" it started with. As of the last time I played, there was no mez or aoe control to speak of and barely any meaningful support gameplay.
I've been playing The Secret World since beta and following it for a long, long time (my friends, who also now play, insisted for a while it was never actually going to come out). It's a great game in a lot of ways, but frustrating and bumpy in a good few as well. I highly recommend trying it out, but I don't know if I can say you'll love it. It's... very interesting.
I hesitate to mention this next one, but, screw it, I had a blast for a while. Vindictus, which Nexon put out. (Nexon might be behind the decision to can CoH.) It's also an instance hell, but it really feels like an indie game; it's creative and it makes its limitations work for it for the most part. The game gets bogged down after a while under the grind, but the first half of it or so is a real joy. Not great character customization (it's class = person, though you can tweak a lot of the look), I admit.
Last one?
City of Heroes, man. It's got everything you want. It ain't gone yet, and I sure ain't giving it up without a fight.
going to champios/DCU online from here is like getting dumped on promnight and
going wit your cousin instead
I downloaded Champions last night. Seems to have a number of positive changes made to it since I last played. It's just not the same though . However, if CoH doesn't have any kind of rescue plan formulated by another publisher and I have no other option, I'll probably persevere with it.

I'll be trying The Secret World. They have a three day free trial going on, so I can try it with no risk.
I'm going to try out The Secret World. Secret societies, dark conspiracies, and horror? Sounds interesting.
The Secret World is what I am thinking of too. It looks incredibly interesting and rich. The concept is stunning and the world just seems like it is well thought out and dark. I did download DCUO last night, but I am thinking that it may not work out because it might be too similar to CoH.
On another note, I just don't know if I have it in me to learn an entire game's combat system and ins and outs again. We all gave so much of our time to this wonderful community. I just don't know if I will ever be able to do it with another game.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

I'm going to retreat to my sig line. I've been in TSW and Rift both since late beta, and LotRO for 4+ years, about a year less than CoH. They were always "second loves"... but at least they're loves.
Edit: as a side note, if any visitor to this thread has any questions about the three games I've mentioned, feel free to pm me. I've already gotten a few inquiries, so if I get inundated, it may be a while before I can respond, but I'll do my level best to answer questions and/or provide trial invites, up to the limit of what I have available.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
I downloaded DCUO a couple days ago, and it's pretty fun. It doesn't have nearly the depth that Cities does. I tried Champions a while ago, I didn't like it... but I may try again when I get bored of DCUO and Cities has shut down.
I am playing Age of Conan, which had a very rough start but has matured into a fairly polished MMO. Played it briefly at launch, more intensively over the past two years or so.

I need to step away from superhero games for a while so I'll be going to Secret World too. I've done a fair bit of research so I know the combat is nowhere near as fast as this game and it has its flaws, but...it's different enough that I will give it two to three months of gameplay to test it out. If by February (starting in November) I feel disappointed I'll re-download Champs Online.
Questions about the game, either side? /t @Neuronia or @Neuronium, with your queries!
168760: A Death in the Gish. 3 missions, 1-14. Easy to solo.
Infinity Villains
Champion, Pinnacle, Virtue Heroes
The secret world seems to have a nice looking environment, some decent character creation and an interesting setting. Watching gameplay videos I'm a lot less excited about giving it a try. (Though I probably will anyway with some friends doing the same)

Someone mentioned Vindictus earlier. Its free and definitely worth checking out if you enjoy some legitimately challenging PvE. (PvP isn't big in the game) Its fantasy setting, but rather than elves and fairies its set in a celtic background.
This is an early mission (maybe 4th or 5th) run on heroic, the highest difficulty. (Using twin spears)

And this would be a mid level boss on hard. (Using swords)

Been playing KOTOR , pretty fun
I played DDO when it first came out for a couple months. It wasnt as good as CoH so i let my sub expire. Maybe a year ago i resubbed and found the game to have improved greatly.
I play bards there, they were the closest i found to the support types this game does so well.
It is an instanced hell... there is no travel...
Id definitely say check out DDO.
I think whats best for me is to take a break from the super hero genre like someone above suggested.
Secret World and Diablo 3 will most likely get my playtime now. But i seriously dont think any game will hold my attention like this game did.
City of Heroes did almost everything perfect. I never left because I never found anything better.
My favorite combo is Faceplant/DebtCap with the TeamWipe Ancillary

Problems with all other games I have played.
1. Action oriented. Perhaps I'm just weird, but I hate action games. Champions Online, DCUO and GW2. Having to actually dodge around is not how I want to play.
2. Cast bars. WoW, Rift, GW2 and other games that have cast bars. These are just anoying.
3. No high amount of 'evasion'. Most games like Rift, you can only get up to like a 25% chance of not getting hit. This is dumb.
4. No regeneration. No matter how awesome my character is, if I AFK in a mob of level 1s, they can eventually kill me with their 1 damage at a time. This is dumb.
5. Stupid numbers like 'I has over 9 thousand armor' which is translated into 25% damage reduction. Add in the fact that if any spell cast at me ignores all my armor stat... More dumb.
6. Gear. I dislike gear. I like modifying my powers, not putting on one of the eleventy billion different pieces of gear that can get oh so confusing and out leveled in a day.
7. I HATE SKILL TREES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. I don't like living off of potions.
If I can find a game that meets those requirements.... I will have found City of Heroes :/ and nothing else. This might not make sense, but I see myself as a hardcore casual gamer. I can play for hours on end, but I don't ever divote 100% of my attention to the game. I am usually watching tv, a movie, reading something or just listening to music. The two games I can do this with are City of Heroes and Pokemon.
Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Played AoC when it launched for a couple of months and it got a bit old real quick through bugs and what have you. Was having another look at it this morning and considered resubbing for another month.

So I feel like my home is scheduled for demolition with the impending doom of Paragon and the Rogue Isles. That being said, any other games that one could recommend. No NCSOFT games obviously please. I am looking for good character customization, decent gameplay of course, mac compatible and occasional RP.
