I was idly tallying things up, just for completion sake.
Liquid inf, 112 billion.
Enhancers in storage, roughly 80 billion.
Hero merits, tickets, etc, roughly 50 billion.
Packs and other random crap, prolly another 50-ish.
So, not quite 300 bills. I'm a piker compared to some of you folks but still not too shabby.
You know, the market structure in this game is, as far as I can see, unique, and conducive to immense fun.
There is no other game on the market with anything close to the AE system.
There is no other game with anything close to the base system.
(sigh)
I hope the industry wises up and these systems get purchased and implemented in new games.
COH is simply the best there is at SO many things. -
I'm looking at Champions Online and Dungeon and Dragons Online.
Both are 'okay'. -
It was a hella run, Tanks.
As for where to go, I have heard many good things about DDO, and have some friends over there already.
If I see you all again, it will be a good day for me. -
Well played, sir, well played.
We should try to get this one and Organica's latest stickied: New FTP folks who decide to sub in would be a ready market for this information, and as the OP found out, the game play simply gets more and more fun as you get more and more powerful.
It's not difficult to reach the high end game. -
Evil_Legacy became one of my favorite posters with two words.
"Kick Rocks."
I laffed so hard.Never change, E_L!

Quote:...saywutnow?well scrappers do supposedly do more damage but i wouldnt mind a buff/revamp like they did to stalkers and soon blasters to them, brutes can come so close to scrapper damage its very hard at times to tell them apart but the brute has way more health and resistance, its more like "do you want to sacrifise a small portion of your damage for better survivability? or do you want to deal that berserk damage instantly?"
btw mauk2 is getting owned on this thread
Just because people are saying things forcefully doesn't make their position correct. The facts are plain, and these IO changes make them plainer.
With the changes as they are right now, /fire brutes can readily achieve 90 percent resistance to smash, lethal, and fire. Plus they can cap Toxic any time they have a minute or so of lead time.
And ss/fire brutes do significant damage, as you may have heard.
So do dm/fire brutes, and I've been tinkering with a claw/fire brute build that renders my claw/fire scrapper completely obsolete. Taunt aura + massively tougher+ same damage? Yes, please!
My invuln brutes are in the same boat: My claw/inv brute already far outperforms my claw/inv scrapper, this makes the difference enormous. I have a ss/inv brute that's suddenly in the running as my best tank.
I have been resisting the transition to fire brutes: I like the extra sturdiness of a fire/fire tanker. But with these changes, I'm likely rolling a couple and retiring the tanks.
There's no reason not too any more. -
As I recall, I did this on one of my fully tooled-up fire tanks, and forgot before I entered to lower it from +4x8.
So I just shrugged and powered on through.
I remember dragging the surviving cyclops from each spawn to the next one.... I was way over aggro cap through most of that.
Good times.
Difficulty is relative. Every toon has challenges, every toon has things that are easy. -
I would never take super speed on a tank.
Super speed is a stealth power. I don't use it because I don't want a squishy to pick up contact aggro just because a mob saw them first instead of me.
I find swift+sprint to be plenty fast in missions, and toss combat jumping + hurdle on top of that for very nice vertical.
It is bliss. -
Quote:epic.1. Prices are too high, im going to have to farm forever to buy wings....
2. I can outfit a toon with ios for pennies if i avoid optimum sets....stupid people, why am i the only one thats thought of this?
3. Frankenslotting! My genius knows no bounds
4. There is a really large gap between the price of this recipe drop and the price of this crafted io, i shall craft
5. Why is salvage so expensive?....flippers are stupid and keep me down.
6. Hah, i made so much moola off selling this crafted io, i dont care that flippers are charging 200k for an uncommon. Stupid flippers.
7. Wait, prices fluctuate. I can just leave my bid up overnight. Flippers are still stupid.
8. See the large difference in the upper and lower prices for this io? I should flip it and lower the top end price...thatll show that flipper.
9. Duh, for every buyer there is a seller. I dont care how high prices are.
10. Profit -
Quote:SS/inv is looking to be THE hot ticket for a tanking brute with the upcoming IO changes. This thread is heartening. I semi-retired my SS/Inv brute a couple of years ago because of many of the issues that this thread indicates are no longer issues.
Luckily, I have a 50 of that exact combo, patiently waiting in the 'to be given deific build' queue.
Invuln tanks don't gain so much on I24. Invuln brutes? Ohmy. -
Waiting for I24 is superb advice.
Also, I recently rebuilt my own ma/sr, and have been pleased as punch by how it plays:

Quote:Electric is excellent, especially withthe upcoming resistance additions.thanks for the responses, I'm going Electric. Tesla move over.
I would have directed you at either willpower or shield, however. The reason? Confuse and terror protection.
You will not, however, be unhappy with electric. I have a superb elec/elec scrapper with a full incarnate build, and an elec/stone tank still on plain IO's, and have never been dissapointed by the durability of either.
What secondary are you looking at? -
Quote:Inv/dm is the tankers tank. It is nigh unkillable, but pays for that with damage output. It's not as bad an a stone/ice, for example, but it's never going to be a powerhouse.Been playing this Inv/DM for incarnate content lately and I must say he is down right impressive when it comes to survivability. Even before I got him to being 50+1 he could survive mobs of +4/x8. The only thing is that it takes him forever to kill stuff.
Quote:I'm debating on re-working the build some to include Spring Attack for a decent AoE attack to help take out the mobs faster in solo play. Something like this maybe.
If you want a good soloing tank, roll a fire/fire. -
Here, I made this for you.

Quote:Ehn, I thought about going for the trillionaire club, but I'd hafta start flippin' purples to roll up that kinda cash in a decent time. Not quite all. I've been the founding member of the trillionaire club for a long long time now, and I have yet to have the pleasure of inducting another member.
Tis lonely at the top, no one to play chess with on Sunday afternoons over tea.
And flippin' purples....isn't my fun.
Maybe I'll fire up the old farm again soon, start on my second centi-billion.
See, if I was half-smart, I'd convert all those pvp io's rather than sell 'em raw. -
Quote:This.I would suggest you turn off hover. Have no travel powers on except sprint, at least until you get used to recognizing the light blue patch on the ground before the patch actually slams down from above. There is an auditory cue that warns you - and if you play with your sound off, you might be well-served to turn it on, at least for this part of the task force.
The reason I suggest no travel powers is the same reason we ask folks to only use sprint in Keyes - travel suppression. Reaction times vary - and some players, typically support toons, are so focused on lending support that they don't see/hear the warnings of the blue patch about to land on their head.
In short, attack and move. You have to stop to get the attack off -but other than that, just keep moving. That way, even if you are in a blue patch, you are only in it for 3 or 4 ticks - enough to hurt, but not enough to kill you.
Ignore the swords. The more you stop to damage them, the longer Battle Maiden is going to last. If Battle Maiden has left the map, focus on her Champions.
Stick and move. Stick and move. Most players will take damage from the patches here and there. A sword may get a nice shot in on you - but if you're almost always moving, you should be just fine.
I do not understand why people are so uptight about the Battle Maiden fight: You have the EXACT same mechanism in the Sewers at level1, and I know you all play the sewers.
I have one simple rule, and I rarely if ever die in the Apex, and I run it a LOT.
The Rule: Never stop moving. -
Quote:If you're wiling to look further than SR / SD, then another reasonable candidate is an ice / dark tank. It's a particularly sturdy SO-only tank, with up to 2 end management tools in your primary and secondary, if you'd like. You'd also find it relatively easy to hold aggro, with a well built ice tank.
All true. I would steer clear of an ice tank in the modern game, though, as the aggro power of an ice is SO huge, I fear modern enemy groups would deliver a less than enjoyable play experience.
Quote:Other viable candidates are ice / ice and ice / stone, both with aid self added into the build for self-healing. The mitigation built into both ice melee and stone melee is quite helpful.
Well, if you seriously want to try and main tank the modern game on SO's, a stone armor/ice melee would be difficult to argue with as the single most survivable combo. You'd never, ever, kill anything on your own, though.
Quote:On another note, I looked up Storm Kick in Mids and saw no defense bonus listed for using it. Is there really a defense bonus from Storm Kick? -
Here's an SR/DM build, SO's only, that could tank effectively even at Incarnate levels. The only issue is the very low hitpoint totals. The hits that land, will HURT, and Siphon Life will take a while to fill your green bar again.
55 percent versus all, though, will carry you through a LOT of content.

On a fire toon, you want recharge.
For example, the defense and resist numbers of the last build you posted, and the one I put up, are comparable. (Once I24 hits, they'll be quite a lot better, and near identical.)
The difference is how fast your self-buffs and attacks come up.
For example:
On my build, you get a 45 percent self-heal every 11.4 seconds, that is also slotted to boost your toxic resists.
On your build, you get a 45 percent self-heal every 20.1 seconds, that's not slotted for toxic resist.
Your healing flames, being faster, heals you for roughly twice as much.
Your consume, on my build, recharges every 57 seconds. On yours, it takes 118 seconds, or roughly a third longer. Recharge gives you 30 percent more endurance to work with.
Cleave, on your build, recharges every 10.2 seconds and hits for 294 base. On my build, cleave recharges every 4.3 seconds and hits for 334 base. (You will NEED consume coming back fast!)
All battle axe attacks have knockdown. The more you hit with them, the more 'tanky' you will feel, and actually BE, as the bad guys can't attack you.
On a fire toon, recharge is essential for the best functioning of the toon.
I tweaked a bit more, see how you feel:

Quote:I....Since i have 2 accounts and 2 monitors, i do not have to wait for load times. When i log off on one toon I am already marketing and logging into the other toon. I also market on one account as i am waiting for trials to form on the other account.
However, when i was running one account i did figure out a way to log in and out quicker. Spawn an oroborous portal, click menu, click quit to character select, then when the counter starts counting down, click the oroborous portal, when it says lost connection to mapserver click menu, quit to character selection. Voila you are now logged out in 5 seconds instead of 30 seconds.
I am in awe.
I made my 100 with a bullet-headed pvp farm, I only market for funsies.
I like to think of myself as a primary supplier, rather than a middleman. -
LOL, how quickly your perception of inf changes.
You have over a billion on that toon in less than three weeks. Pat yourself on the back, sir!
Well played. -
I tweaked this a bit: Your attacks are now much better slotted and you have hasten. Your defense and resists are effectively unchanged, but your damage will go up 10-20 percent.
EDIT: I should clarify: Your damage per attack will go up 10-20 percent, but you have so much more recharge, you're attacking about twice as fast as you were before. Your overall damage output should more than double. Yes, consume will be your friend. You might want to look at dropping gash to find a lace for conserve power.

Long ago, at the very point of game release, there was a fellow who played and posted. He went by 'The Confessor', and back in those days, he claimed that a bs/da scrapper was THE nastiest toon you could play.
Now, BS has taken a few nicks and dings since then, but a bs/dark should still be waaaay up there on the synergy scale.
Full Disclosure:
I do not like dark armor, and play it poorly, at best. That said, I have seen people with dark armor scrappers take on literally everything the game has to offer without hesitation. In the right hands, it can be amazing.
I went ahead and tossed together a build, I make no claims it's decent or not. I did try to keep in mind the upcoming I24 IO changes, and went for added +resist as well as defense and recharge.
With the IO changes and the PPM changes, this build should be perfectly sustainable as long as you feed a steady supply of victims to Dark Regeneration. If not, then conserve power should bridge you through nicely. If all else fails, vigor or ageless WILL fix your end issues.
See what you think:

I've been counting on my fingers and agree: S/L resist seems MUCH easier to come by from 'common' sources.
Plus, the total amount of +resist is not enormous: Yes, it's nice, but as I have been looking, it seems like you can develop around 40 percent +resist with some effort, and can get to maybe +70 percent with a lot of purples, ATO's and the like. But you approach slot starvation QUICKLY. Yikes....
Does this seem like what other people are seeing? -
Try a shield/ss tanker.
Grant cover is a potent defense buff, auto footstomp is a knockdown plus added damage, and the footstomp plus aggro aura of a shield tank means you'll never have to worry about keeping aggro.
Plus, it's the ultimate 'set it an forget it' buffbot. So long as you don't outrun it, you literally don't need to switch to it, ever, for it to work.
