  1. Sorry that was me, I was cos-playing as Psyche. Didn't mean to confuse you. THERE IS NO BUG, WE DENY ITS EXISTENCE.
  2. Since playing some of the Dark Astoria content and a few other new things, I've rethought my stance on Super Reflexes. It seems like maybe having too much Defense isn't so bad when every other enemy shoots -20% Def Debuffs like they were going out of style. With that said, I want to find a powerset to pair with SR, one that has enough AoE for me to wade into x8 spawns and still clear quickly solo. I'm leaning towards Spines/SR. Here's an example build, I focused on +Health (18.76% from sets) mostly, and got just enough accuracy bonus that I shouldn't be completely inept if I get hit by a tohitt debuff. Because of the nature of SR, I'm pretty dead set on Agility Core as my Alpha, but looking at the build and taking Physical Perfection, I also considered Vigor Core. Vigor would have a more beneficial effect on my overall endurance usage, as well as boosting all my accuracy and regen, while sacrificing some defense and recharge. I do not want to take both and swap out as needed, so I'd rather just know which one will be more beneficial.

  3. I think the best possible answer will always involve Radiation Emmision. But as for the AT... lots of ideas pop into my head. One particularly fast and devastating idea is Rad/Sonic Defenders of course... but what about Fire/Rad Controllers? All that hotfeet damage, amplified by garunteed containment on every foe and all the +dmg buff and -resistance debuff from Rad. Then of course, there's Fire Blast / Rad Corruptors. Rad isn't just debuffing the enemies to death, it's also giving the team much more recharge and recovery than they could possibly need, which comes with a health damage buff and mez resistance as well. At that point, all that really matters is how fast you can kill.

I have regretted every single Defender I ever rolled who did not take Sonic for the blast set.
Y'know it's funny how I find myself thinking that sometimes too. My only Sonic Blast Defender is a Sonic/Sonic, and my other high end 50 Defs are a Dark/Ice and a FF/Beam. I don't want to get into the FF/Beam, it's a perverted solo build to let me judge Beam Rifle's worth, since I like the look of the set, playable but not great. However on my Dark/Ice I often find myself wondering about Sonic Blast over Ice Blast. I actually took Cryonic Judgement radial T4 on this toon, and the movement slow branch of Gravitic Interface T4. I made the conscious decision that if I already sacrificed -Resists for Slows, I would go all the way with them Slows. Tar Patch / Ice Storm does apply a ridiculous amount of slow over a large area rather quickly, but the situations in which that actually benefits anyone are rare. It does often prevent scatter on teams where we lack Trollers or Doms, but there just aren't enough situations like BAF escape phase where controlling foe movement is important and Slow patches are godlike... sadly even then Controllers can do that specific job better. I don't think I'll re-roll the Dark-Ice, since Ice is a respectable set in DPA, and was considered second only to Fire Blast for a long time.
  5. Sorry no time for exposition today, just posting this build for a friend real quick.

  6. War Mace / Energy Aura

Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty Strong and Pretty

Also War Mace is a great set with plenty of AoEs, but rather high ST DPS as well. War Mace also comes equipped with two 100% chance of knockdown powers, which can be alternated around other attacks in your attack chain (with high enough global recharge) to create an offensive powerset that keeps targets floored 100% of the time. This is a massive defensive advantage to have in your offensive set, and thus you can really pick any secondary you want.
  7. A Defender with Sonic Blast really is as debuffy as you can get, regardless of their primary they will still make AVs melt. The resist debuffs in Sonic Blast do indeed stack with themselves if their durations overlap (the duration of the debuff is different per attack, but the strength is the same at 20%). You can then pick whatever primary you enjoy playing the most, take all the leadership powers, and just in general be a godlike support toon. At the opposite end of this argument, we have Defenders who take Fire Blast. WTF? If they want to do damage they should be a Fire Blast / something Corruptor. Fire Blast has no debuff component for the Defender's mods to take advantage of.

Therm / Sonic Defender or Sonic / Sonic Defender. I vote for these because +resistance shields are much more rare than +Defense buffs, and many builds will have all their important defenses maxed already via set bonuses. Also both of these sets have a +Mez protect power, which is a godsend to squishies on your team.
  8. Y'know if Cloak of Fear and Oppressive Gloom don't seem to help the way you want, you DON'T need them. With just the 3 shields, cloak, the heal, and a damage aura, Dark Armor has favorable stats already. A resist set with the best composite resists in the game outside of Granite, and the best self heal in the game, that also gives the user some defense and perception.
  9. NecroOmNomNomicon

    Water Blast!

That timeline is legit dude, easy to navigate since the screen centers on your cursor when you zoom in and out, good stuff. It's a simple feature that should be in any software where zooming is necessary, but amazingly is not. I have to deal with some mapping software at work that in addition to not zooming to the cursor point, actually defaults to having scroll mouse wheel up ZOOM OUT... yes the exact opposite of common sense and every other interface of all time. I was under the impression that some psionic power "rumors" were out though, why aren't they on that timeline?
  10. NecroOmNomNomicon

    AR vs DP

Ah yes traps, the "endurance heavy" set apparently. Y'know the one with no toggles, and long long cast times that prevent you from doing anything else, thus having tiny endurance per time numbers.
  11. NecroOmNomNomicon

    Blapper?

Elec Melee is my personal vote, because it has nice crunchy attacks and the ease of use thanks to the various ways it can recover your endurance. If you want a primary specifically for Blapping, it helps to pick a primary without any cones, or with an extremely useful debuff. I would cast my vote for Radiation, which has a fast activating PbAoE that murders defenses, and you can either use to get more melee defense bonuses OR put an achiles proc into, both good things for a Blapper build. That and Rad/Elec actually kindof has a theme, which is a dealbreaker for some people who refuse to make toons without themes.
  12. CHU WANT NYAN CAT!

    I GIVE YOU NYAN CAT!

How long until a Mod locks this thread for not talking about the powers in a more general discussion-like way or because of all the external links I keep bringing into this?
  13. I'm... sorry to hear about being an ex-channer. Those were dark times for many of us. One of the memories I can't burn from my brain is the first time I found that website. I don't bother checking chan anymore, unlike Newgrounds which constantly supplies me with awesome flash movies/games and I will check it every few weeks or so. Memes still find their way there too, but that's how it will be on any website with high enough traffic. How do you evade the memes, they even found you on the CoH forum? We even have our own CoH specific memes: Strong and Pretty is already an "Ascended Meme" since it became an actual badge.
  14. Shadow, the internet didn't stop, the memes kept going. I tried to mix some oooooold memes in with some more current ones like the Skyrim memes, but history is tricky business.
  15. Hello friendly forum faces, do you know what an internet meme is? Chances are, if you play a MMO like City of Heroes, and browse the forum... YOU PROBABLY DO. Wait, who said they don't? WAS IT YOU?!? Fine google it and I will wait until you return.

    ...

    ...

Alright, now that we all know what a meme is, here's my new powerset. It will be based around 9 selected popular memes, out of a huge pool of contenders. These are rickrolled-oops sorry, I mean rolled into one powerset. I won't explain the jokes, because as any decently read professor of humorology will tell you: "If you have to explain the joke, it isn't funny anymore."

    1: Rick Roll

Buff. Target Player and 15ft AoE around them.
When you activate Rick Roll the targets on your team will have their CoH interface covered up by a video of Rick Astley performing his song "Never gonna give you up" on infinite loop. This video can be manually closed by the player at any time, but the memory of the event will be burned into their brain for all time. When you activate this power there is a chance for the targets to be unaffected and instead YOU will see the video. Yes, this power can fail and it can Rick Roll you.
Recharge: 300 seconds (this was calculated as the maximum length of time you can click on related videos on youtube before inevitably finding a Rick Roll.)

    2: Arrow to the Knee

    Debuff. Single Target.
I used to think this powerset was a good idea, but then I took an arrow to the knee. You fire an arrow from a bow withdrawn from "Hammerspace" with NO weapon redraw. You take careful aim and fire an arrow into the target's knee. This applies a 10,000,000 magnitude immobilize (unresistable) for exactly 5 seconds (unaffected by buffs and enhancements, unresistable) and during this time the target will describe one of their past desires, which they can no longer perform since taking an arrow to the knee. This dialogue could be repeated thousands of times throughout your adventure, due to lack of NPC text diversity. You killed their dream.
    Recharge: 25 seconds.

    3: lolcat can haz cheezburger

Debuff and minor damage: Targeted AoE 15ft (10 second duration).
Barrage the targeted foes with random cheezburgers and images of cats and poorly speeled capshuns. It is hilarious. The foes will have their movement and attack speeds debuffed by 40% and may become disoriented, while taking minor unresistable stupidity damage over time for 10 seconds.
    Recharge: 30 seconds.

    4: Rule 34

Debuff. Targets everything, allies, enemies, its effects are inescapable not unlike a black hole.
Nobody benefits, something, somewhere, somehow, something you loved dearly as a child and deeply respect... there is porn of it. Rule 34 can and will show you these images. The effects on the targets can range from mild disgust, to major disgust w/ nausea, to even pleasure if they are sick little monkies! Using this is a gambit to hope that your foes will be more adversely affected than your allies. May accidentally transmit computer viruses to affected targets.
Recharge: none, this power can be invoked as often as possible... hell it invokes itself pretty much all the time anyways. May cause permanent blindness.

5: The cake is a lie.

Lie. This power will grant you a tasty chocolate cake, it's so delicious and moist.
This was a triumph. I'm making a note here: Huge Success. It's hard to overstate my satisfaction. If you finish activating this power, there will be cake. Don't worry, any perceived danger is merely an illusion to "enhance" your testing experience. What does that mean? I can't tell you as part of a required test protocol. Now hurry and use this power to claim your cake.
Recharge: You're dead, but I'm still alive.

    6: U mad bro?

Debuff: Targeted AoE 25ft radius 30 second duration.
Targets in the affected area get mad bro. Yes, this just happened, cry about it. NPCs will gain +100% damage buff but -50% tohit, 75%defense, and 75%resistance, with a chance to become confused and start yelling profanities at eachother. If used in PvP the targeted players will be forced to smash their heads into their keyboards in real life. Use of this power increases the likelihood of being "reported" by other players, but don't worry, they were just being little b*tches.
    Recharge: 200 seconds.

7: Yo dawg I heard you...

    Buff: Single target.
Yo dawg, I heard you like buffs, so I put a buff in your buff, so you can be OP while you are being OP. When activated, this buff will take common examples of what the target already has (for example: SR Scrapper, this will be positional defense) and buffs their buffs with more of the same. As another example, for any Blaster, simply put the word DAMAGE into the sentence like 5 times, and make all their attacks have 50% more base damage. This might help those Blasters stop complaining about being underpowered, but don't hold your breath. Special mention goes to any Melee AT pairing War Mace with Energy Aura. This buff will only make them Stronger and Prettier.
    Recharge: 60 seconds.

    8 O RLY?

Buff: Single Target, lasts 240 seconds.
You tell your teammate a fascinating fact, which they seem arbitrarily skeptical about...

    "O RLY?" They ask.
    "YA RLY" You reply.
The target receives a buff based on the knowledge exchanged, and uses it in their righteous quest to defeat anyone whom they deem as "an enemy". During this time, they may pass this buff on to others using a similar ORLY YARLY exchange, but the buff must be identical since they are passing on the same information you gave them. Hell they are probably just cntrl-C and cntrl-V'ing it. You may however, recharge permitting, tell the same person some other cool stuff. This will give them multiple different versions of the buff. The internet is a big place after all, lots of facts to learn guys.
    Recharge: 240 seconds.

    9(Thousand): It's Over 9000!

Buff: Self and allies PBAoE 25ft radius. Lasts over 9000 seconds.
Hey Arcanaville, what does your data say about this build's power level? "IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND!" What 9000! Activating this power makes you and your allies so strong, that the foes can't even comprehend your power and will destroy their scouters in fits of rage. Unfortunately, you need over 9000 endurance to activate this power. Only a few (Goku) people can do that, and sadly you are not one of them. You can't use this power. But damn dude if you could it would make you guys so strong, you could like blow up a planet with just one finger or something... I dunno.
Recharge: close to 9000 seconds but not quite over 9000.

That's pretty much it, I sincerely hope the Devs will consider this powerset and add it in a coming issue. I tried to mix Buffs and Debuffs because that seems to be what most people enjoy the most on their characters. Tell me what you think!
  16. NecroOmNomNomicon

    Bow Assault

Why can't I just be like Pit from Kid Icarus, and snap my magical bow in half, only instead of it becoming dual blades like it does for him, we can have it turn into dual pistols. This fixes the problem in a hilariously over the top, difficult to implement, and unrealistic way. BUT IT WILL LOOK COOOOL.
  17. NecroOmNomNomicon

    Bow Assault

No I've got one better. Empathy / DP only has to redraw on one half of the equation. Make a Trick Arrow / DP Defender. Then you'd have to redraw BOTH your weapon sets, every time.
  18. Here's my build for the same powersets. I'm gonna rely on spamming Energize and will not be taking power sink. If at any point I find the build to have some kind of End Problem, I can just switch from Form of the Body to Form of the Soul and get more end-discount and a regen/recov buff, problem solved. I'm planning on Form of the Body and Resilient Core Paragon for maximum resists across the board in Elec Armor.

    Eye of the Storm

True enough, if you position right you will find Guarded Spin and Innocuous Strikes to be better AoEs simply because of their much nicer animations. It does translate into better DPA, but it also means you aren't breaking it down on the floor and trying to make your enemies die of laughter... because y'know, they're laughing at you after you use Eye of the Storm. I just thought I'd explain that. In my Staff-Elec build on MIDs I did still take Eye of the Storm, because I can justify the third AoE with some number logic and just LOOK AWAY FROM THE SCREEN every time I click the power. PROBLEM SOLVED! If I can't see them they can't see me right? Oh crap my team is still laughing at me for breakdancing mid-combat... auugggh...
  20. If you can get a build without any noticeable flaws, I heartily suggest Musculature. It's quite a noticeable gap between the DPS of near identical builds when one is using Musculature Core and the other is using something defensive like Spiritual. The best logical Alpha for Willpower is Vigor Core though. Recharge doesn't benefit WP at all, but Vigor gives you amazing +heal which translates into a higher max HP (High Pain Tolerance) and a lot more Regen, as well as Endreduction and Accuracy. While you probably don't miss very often, Accuracy is still nice for the situations when you fight a ********* enemy like Knives of Vengeance who MoG, it helps you hit through it a bit better.
  21. Go against the flow. Go Super Reflexes and use the Regen/Recovery stance in Staff Fighting to help with SR's common weaknesses.
  22. I second Dark Armor. It has a self heal that can only be described as broken, healthy resistance to -end and -recovery, and the best all around damage resists... better than Granite (not accounting for Granite's Defenses obviously) if we are talking about all damage types since Dark Armor gives you heaping amounts of Psy Resist and a sizeable bit of Toxic as well. There's no Defense Debuff resistance, so you want to get your Defenses high right off the bat, hence the Katana suggestion. Dark Melee / Dark Armor is still very good, but Katana / Dark Armor and TW / Dark Armor are still good choices. If you put a lot of work into them Invuln and Willpower are still very tough sets, but both suffer from the same "weakness" which is poorly distributed Resistances. All into S/L and gaping holes to everything else, and a reliance on a melee range buff. This causes skewed performance where Invulns will be as tough as Granites when surrounded by S/L Mobs that are melee focused like on an ITF, but get gunned down hilariously when they try to pull Nightstar and her Energy Damage on a BAF. I still cast my personal vote for Katana / Dark Armor OR War Mace / Dark Armor (lots of 100% chance for Knockdown attacks, excellent mitigation).

    DB/Elec advice

Have you given though to how you will be playing the toon. There are two main Dual Blades build styles. The first would be actually doing Combos. In this build you'll probably want 7/8 of the attacks, skipping Nimble Slash. This still gives you all the attacks to use "Attack Vitals" and "Sweep" with a Blinding Feint tossed in between each combo for damage buffing. This is a moderately effective strategy.

The second is not doing what the Devs say, and ignoring the combo system. You focus on tons of recharge so you can use Ablating Strike (6sec recharge) every other attack. Blinding Feint -> Ablating Strike -> Sweeping Strike -> Ablating Strike. This strategy DOES A LOT MORE SINGLE TARGET DPS, but involves a lot more recharge, and thus key build differences. If we know how you're gonna play we can advise.
  24. The content was more in favor of Blue-side when CoV launched, CoV was new. It was basically a fad as far as the general population is concerned, and that's what the Devs watch. Since Red-side has a lower population the Devs are NOT going to suddenly be inclined to develop new content for it, especially with going rogue in its current state. Quite the opposite, the lower population means it is *probably* more "profitable" to focus new content onto the side with more people... Blue-side. I'm not gonna hold my breath for any new treats Red-side.
