Bow Assault

Sooo I was thinking of a new secondary set that could be made for the new natural type of dominator.....Bow Assault! Now i havnt really posted much on these forums so be gentle with me hehe I thought the set wouldnt be to grinding to make 4 the animators as many of the archery animations could be used for the powers however one or two melee power animations would need to be made to keep it inline with other dominator secondaries. Could be a nice new twist to dominator secondarys aswell. Ive got a rough idea on what powers could go into the set and here they are:

power 1: Snap Shot - ranged (identical to archery set animation)
power 2: Bow Smash - melee (Simple roundsmash with your bow animation)
power 3: Fistful of Arrows - ranged cone (identical to archery set animation)
power 4: Aimed Shot - (identical to archery animation)
power 5: Archer's Aim - +tohit +dmg buff (typical aim type power)
power 6: Whirling Bow - pbaoe (animation similar to whirling hands etc. but with your bow)
power 7: Grounding Bow - melee (animation of Katanas Golden Dragonfly but with a bow)
power 8: Ranged Shot - ranged snipe (identical to archery set animation)
power 9: Blazing Arrow - ranged (identical to archery set animation)

I have no idea on the dmg numbers etc but theres just a rough idea on the set could also lead up to a nice weapons epic power set for doms please let me know your thoughts on the set and any improvements you think could be made thanks ! x

It's a good idea, but I can't think of many archers that would smack enemies with their bows

Could do an arrow stab melee attack instead. Or a special bow that splits into two swords, like a certain angelic Nintendo character

Bows really don't make much sense as a melee weapon. I am perhaps absurdly fond of the fact that Archery replaces brawl with a kick, but I'm not sure just kicks is enough for the melee component of a dom assault set.

My suggestion for a weapon-based set would be sword and pistol. It's at least theoretically possible, and has some nice imagery associated with it.

Or, you know, just forget the pistol part and go with swords entirely. I can far more easily accept throwing swords as an attack than routinely hitting people with a bow. (And a melee attack with an arrow is even worse.)

Yeah, because that wouldn't be called out immediately. Also, that design was stupid. A bow that splits in half couldn't bend and increase the power of the shots. So it'd be a 'magic string bow', and then you run into so many people whining about "I CAN'T BE NATURAL WITH IT CITY OF HEROES HAS TOO MUCH MAGIC NOW WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH".

I'm glad you're there to tell us the properties and abilities of magical weapons granted by godlike beings!

Tell us how hedgehogs can't run that fast, too.

If you mixed the bow with martial arts (or any fist/foot attacks) for the melee attacks, that would work. It's a natural fit to a bow user to have some kind of "judo chop!"

So you admit you want a direct rip off of Palutena's Bow? Shameless.

More specifically, the Bow of Light was never originally supposed to do what it does due the more 'modern' take on Kid Icarus. Even further, let's be honest; the Bow of Light is no longer a 'bow'. Pit fires 'Arrows of Light', yes, but that effect is purely cosmetic and it simply a burst of light energy in a shape that amuses the 'bow-like' shape the twin blades hold into.

If anything Palutena's Bow is more like Palutena's Squall at this point, while Pit fires Spirit Gun shots out of index finger.

Either way, Bow Melee has always been one of those things I rolled my eyes at, personality. I also don't even have many sources of them being anything note-worthy in history (feel free to correct me), and seem to just be a spawn of the "PUT BLADES ON EVERYTHING" phase of life.

If nothing else, it'd be TERRIBLY unwieldy and the bow would take massive performance penalties due to the (pointless) additional weight.

Really, just do the Monster Hunter route; very study and deadly arrows that, if needed, can be used as improvised melee weapons.

But really, bladed bows are pretty dumb. Kill it before it reaches you.

Snap Shot

Crippling Axe Kick

Fistfull of Arrows

Aimed Shot

Hawkeye (weak version of Aim with an extended duration, permable, stackable)

Dragon's Tail

Caltrops

Eagle's Claw

Blazing Arrow

There, I'm done. Some people hate caltrops... some people think it would fit PERFECTLY in this set. Can just remove it for another Archery or Martial Arts power, idk, Cobra Strike or Rain of Arrows somewhere...

How about a knife? Maybe a sort of more advanced Rondel? It wasn't uncommon for late medieval archers to carry daggers or knives like it.

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.

Not sure when I said I wanted it, but hey

It was more me wondering why you were trying to tell the can and can'ts of a video game character's unrealistic bow.

Heh, neat idea overall, but we're not gonna see it 'til the BDSM crowd gets Whip Dom/Whip Assault.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

A weapon set on a dominator is generally a pretty bad idea in general as we can see with Thorns. To stay alive you must constantly switch between attacking and mezzing which means near constant weapon redraw. It only takes about a second to draw your weapon but for a dom that's repeated redraws through a fight. You can easily spend a good 5 to 10 seconds of each fight going through the weapon animation and that's unbearable to me.

I'd be all for Bows, and Thorns for that matter, but only after they get around to fixing weapon redraw.

Then weapon sets must also be a bad idea for Corruptors, Defenders and Blasters with redraw-inducing secondaries or primaries.

I'm kinda sure that Thorns is one set which doesn't actually suffer from redraw. It's more like a Fire Sword or Stone Mallet, the animation is baked into the power. Hence why the customisation is done on the powers screen for it.

Mind you a Bow set wouldn't have that advantage. The worst offender is going to be the single target hold though, so I wonder if they could just do weapon-carrying alternate animations for those and at least alleviate the issue?

It is.

But if you don't believe that the redraw penalty is real, don't take our word for it, just roll a empathy/dual pistols defender and you'll see yourself how real the redraw penalty is.

No I've got one better. Empathy / DP only has to redraw on one half of the equation. Make a Trick Arrow / DP Defender. Then you'd have to redraw BOTH your weapon sets, every time.

Except double weapon redraw makes sense - you can't hold a bow whilst also holding two pistols. I've always wondered if it's feasible to make a free, 0 endurance toggle that keeps the weapon in your hand at all times so there's no need for redraw.

Why can't I just be like Pit from Kid Icarus, and snap my magical bow in half, only instead of it becoming dual blades like it does for him, we can have it turn into dual pistols. This fixes the problem in a hilariously over the top, difficult to implement, and unrealistic way. BUT IT WILL LOOK COOOOL.
