I also never understood why one of my Field Crafter characters could make certain level 45 Common IOs (notably End Mod, End Red, Rech Red, Dam, ACC and a few others) price them for a nice profit at 116K INF and find in the next day or two these IOs were bought for 150K-500K. I figured ONLY NPCs (i.e. by game design) would overpay so consistently, which was entirely fine with me and a nice reward for earning the Field Crafter badge.

Can you confirm whether the auctionhouse market was solely player driven, as some have thought, or a hybrid of player action and game design, or what? Thanks!
You answered your first question with your second one: Salvage fluctuated (at least in part) because of Field Crafter. When someone wants to get a lot of memorization badges quickly, they need a lot of salvage. The easiest place to get it is the Auction House. The nature of the bidding process means that someone buying up a lot of a single type of salvage will use up all the cheap stuff, causing spikes in price.
Likewise, people crafting large amounts of certain enhancements - either for personal use of for resale - can cause similar spikes in Uncommon and Rare salvage.
The fact that the various types of salvage aren't balanced in their use - some are used in dozens of recipes, others in just a handful - also contributes to the flux and variation in prices.

As to the "overpaying" for common IOs, some people value their time far more than their Inf. When you can make 3-4 million/hour just off defeats (and some can do much more), PLUS significantly more by selling drops, it's easier to just drop 500,000 Inf on a common that to bid creep and try to save an insignificant amount.
I consider myself a low-end earner in the Market forum, and yet I still drop 500,000 to 1,000,000 each on level 25 and 50 common IOs (I don't use other levels, unless I'm crafting them myself out of salvage I have on hand).

I have no reason to believe that the system was automatically buying or selling anything (except maybe on Beta, but I'm pretty sure the system-created goods on Beta were manually generated). Activity that I've seen discussed in the Market forum, and that I've partaken in myself, explains all of the "oddities" I've seen to my satisfaction.

In order to produce a CoH2 you are looking at at least two full years of development from that handful of material, without the dev team that made CoH1 as good as it is.

It's way off. That mission CAN be abandoned, and is NOT permanently on your list. His issues with abandoning it stem from the fact that it's been selected as the Active Mission.

You can't abandon your active mission. Just select the other mission you want to do, and click the "Select Task" button. At that point, you can enter the newly selected mission, ignoring the previous one, or Abandon the now-unselected one.

Note that abandoning an active mission does NOT make it inactive; it removes it from your list.

Other methods of deselecting a mission include typing /leaveteam or logging out and back in.
  6. No, sorry.

Very little has been mentioned about the Ascended; I think everything that has been can be summed up as "They are to Incarnates what Incarnates are to normal humans." Dimensionals were never even mentioned, prior to the Loregasm; we had no idea that they were coming.

That's been disproven already, just like all the other rumors about what's going on.

Edit: Hell, the article you linked outright said that it's probably just an internet rumor, and listed more facts that make it unlikely - like NCSoft's denial of the rumor, and Gabe Newell's refusal of EA's offer and his quote saying he'd dissolve the company before letting it be bought out - than ones supporting the rumors.

Huh. I completely forgot about that one.

Yeah, Twilight's Son is only available in Hero Ouroboros, and Tesseract is only in Villain Ouroboros, so you will need to fully switch over to get that one. Fully switching to villain wouldn't be a bad idea though, especially if you've previously been a hero-only player. There's a lot of good content redside to try out.

First impressions start when you first see the person, but they don't end there. The entire first meeting, up until the point where you part company counts as "first impressions".
  12. IMO, the Virgil Tarikoss and Mortimer Kal SFs should be near the top of your list. LRSF is pretty good too.

It wouldn't be too difficult to run all the villain SFs, should you decide you want to; there are FAR fewer SFs than there are TFs.

But my aura heal kept pulling aggro off the tank, and towards me. Mind you, this was a few years ago ... But there ya go.
That wasn't the heal generating aggro. When you attacked, you were put on their aggro list. NOTHING short of your death, theirs, or a Placate will remove you from that list, though you can be bumped really low. As long as the enemies are in combat mode, they can attack anything on their list, though they show a preference for the ones at the top.

It's most likely that the tank was pushing himself over the aggro cap and shedding aggro on the extra enemies, who started going after the next thing on their aggro list - you.

Okay, from memory here, since I don't have any 35+ villains who haven't already chosen a patron:

    1) Talk to Arbiter Rein, get his mission
    2) Go inside the building, read all the plaques below the patron statues... maybe talk to Arbiter Daos in the center of the room?
    3) Return to Arbiter Rein to complete mission
    4) Go downstairs and talk to the patron of your choosing.

Hrm... Are you perchance a Kheldian? They don't get to have Patrons as I recall...
Daos is not part of the Arc. And Khelds can still select a Patron and earn the badges, they just can't select Patron Powers. Preventing them from taking a Patron would lock them out of two badges, including the one necessary to start the Lord Recluse Strike Force.

I suppose there's no way to reset the choice...it's very aggravating because I don't remember picking her with this character.
No, you can't change it. As with any other contact, once you've selected them, they're on your list for good. And in the case of the Patrons, there is no other way to unlock them.
  15. I need the names for a few maps, NPCs and effects, an used in demo files, that I may not be able to collect by myself, so I'm hoping that someone can help me. So, here's the list:

    Emperor Marcus Cole
    Tyrant (Regular)
    Giant Tyrant (Magi Trial)

Map name(s) used in the Magi Trial

There's an effect that makes a glowing line stretch between the source and target. If I remember correctly, the Pylons use it on Hamidon in the Lady Grey TF. I've seen it in other places too.

I think that's it for now, I may add others to the list later.

If anyone knows of a master list that has most/all of the NPC, Map and Effect names, I would LOVE to get my hands on it. Otherwise, thanks for any and all help!

EDIT: I found this page which is GREAT, but it's out of date... by quite a few years. So if anyone can help out with the models above, I'd still appreciate it!

SSA = Signature Story Arc, the first seven of which are the "Who Will Die" arcs. They are VIP arcs, but can be purchased by Premium players.

Not that that seems to matter any more. Glad you got your recipe!
  17. When you replaced the original character with the replacement one, you deleted ALL the lines defining the original character, and made sure to change the ID numbers of the replacement character to the same numbers the original used, right?

For example, if your original character were:

    Code:
0 5 NEW "Blood Brother Slammer"
    0 5 NPC Thug_Hellion_01
    0 5 POS -227.15625 0 130.203125
    0 5 PYR 0 -0.380427 -0
And you wanted to replace it with:

    Code:
    0 17 NEW "Flower Knight"
    0 17 NPC Model_Kit_Sung
You would remove the NEW and NPC lines from the first and replace them with the same lines from the second, giving you:

    Code:
    0 17 NEW "Flower Knight"
    0 17 NPC Model_Kit_Sung
    0 5 POS -227.15625 0 130.203125
    0 5 PYR 0 -0.380427 -0
And then you'd change the numbers so that it was:

    Code:
    0 5 NEW "Flower Knight"
    0 5 NPC Model_Kit_Sung
    0 5 POS -227.15625 0 130.203125
    0 5 PYR 0 -0.380427 -0
I just used NPCs here to keep it short. There's a LOT more lines in the definition of a PC (or custom critter) model, so you have to make sure you get rid of all the unwanted lines.

Again, if you can post the code, I can take a look and see if I can find what's going on for you.
  18. I've only done what you're describing when setting up screen shots, not videos, so I've never seen that happen.

However, what I suspect happened is that (for whatever reason), the entity representing the player was despawned in the demofile code and respawned.

Search the demo file for the your character's name (the one you recorded the demo with). If you find it elsewhere in the file, replace that entity's code with the code for your custom critter.

I've got a couple other ideas, but I'd need to check out your demo code to confirm. If you've recorded an entire mission, the file will be WAY to big to paste into a forum post; can you host it somewhere online and provide a link to download it?

    Other MMOs?

There are very few games, MMO or otherwise, that allow for CoH's level of character customization. Champions Online is the only MMO I can think of that is close. APB may have had even better customization, but I'm pretty sure they shut down ages ago.

I can't really answer your other questions, since I've barely wet my toes in the MMO pool.

The nice thing about F2P and Hybrid games is that they're free. You can download and try as many as you're willing to download.

While none of them really suit me, I've heard good things about Champions Online, Lord of the Rings Online, and D&D Online, and they're all Hybrids like CoH - you can play for free, or pay a sub, or use the microtransaction store to buy extras.
  20. If you've got a character that has confirmed their alignment and hasn't done a SSA this week, you can run Who Will Die part 1 and get a Hero Merit in under 20 minutes (under 10 for some characters!), buy the recipe, and mail it to yourself.

    Reading comprehension failure.

I never made any definitive statements about the contents of your post. I stated what I thought "It seems to be". Many things are other than what they seem to be.

It merely means that he was stating a need, and wanted it to be known. Likewise, I stated my desire for tacos because I want people to know that I want tacos, not because I expect them to rush over to my house and prepare them for me. That would be ridiculous.

Which means by your own explanation, you are not nice, and by implication you are a troll, which may or may not be true of him but would definitely be true of you since it's how you feel about such behavior.

And yet you do it, riding someone else's assumed coat tails into an endeavor you yourself demean. What a fascinating sense of self.
You posted on a public forum. You aren't allowed to dictate who is or isn't allowed to read, comment on or respond to your posts. If you DO want such control, then replies you want to remain private should be relegated to the provided Private Messaging system.

As to whether or not I am nice? I never claimed to be. However, I didn't taKe it on myself to write a huge scathing rebuttal to someone who posted something I felt the need to correct. I didn't post said rebuttal in a public forum, and then complain about people's response to it.

And just to make you feel better, I went back and read your diatribe.

I still have no idea what you're talking about. It seems to be some weird rambling mish-mash of your assumptions of what the OP said, some weird conspiracy theory about NCSoft polling us in secret, and a lot of stuff that I couldn't make heads or tails of.

By the way, what question DID Satanic Hamster ask after calling... someone ... fanboys? The fanboys comment was the last thing he posted before your rant. Even if it was just an error in tense and you were referring to something else... What? I don't see any questions from him. Stating a need doesn't mean that that need must be fulfilled by anyone in this thread.

    I want tacos for dinner.

Does that mean that I expect someone in this thread to provide them for me?
