First Look, ThunderCats Reboot
Panthro has some awesome sideburns
80s Cheetara was hotter.
Looking forward to this.
just occurred to me about Panthro...
Oooops, That was Lion-O? I thought it was Wily Katt
Too Boy-ish. We know he's still a boy, but in an adult body...

"So come and get me! I'll be waiting for ye, with a whiff of the old brimstone. I'm a grim bloody fable, with an unhappy bloody end!" Demoman, TF2
I can accept the character design based on how Lion-O acted in the original series...
Reminds me more of Hellboy dressed as Panthro for Halloween.

Is anyone else bothered by how "anime" inspired all the cartoons are these days?
I really miss older style animation and seems any time I see a new remake of those old 80s cartoons there redone in some anime-ish fashion and I just don't like it as much.
I prefer the older style animation, though Lion-O did look like a clown.
"Where does he get those wonderful toys?" - The Joker
I'm more concerned that people think there is an "anime" style and that it somehow take precedence over Disney which inspired a lot of Anime creators' styles >.> I hate that people think that it's a bad thing to draw on one style more so than another or that one style becomes more popular for a time. The current styles are merges of the various styles, both eastern and western, that are most attractive to people.
I like both Cheetaras. This one has a better cleavage though.
And, at long last, Tigra looks like a ninja.
I'll probably check this out.

Here's another retro screw up. Next thing you know, they'll make a GI Joe remake that has them as the enemy.
speaking of animation, the animation done for the new g.i. joe-renegades cartoon on the hub imo is just bad i think.

Now on to the topic at hand...
The Character Designs don't look too bad...
Well except for Lion-o, maybe. I keep expecting a Super Sayian glow coming off of him for some reason...
And Tygra using a gun, in addition to the whip.
What worries me is comments made by the series Producer. While partly quoted in the OP's link, here's what concerns me from the linked article...
But what about the whole "reimagining" thing? Jelenic agreed that the word "reimagining" could mean a lot of things, so he explained one specific change he's looking to make with the new series. "One thing is that I tried to simplify the mythology a little bit," he said. "It's a pretty complicated backstory that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like Superman and Star Wars. In developing this, I wanted it to be a little more simple. In the other version, there's something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody's really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together." |
Simplifying the Mythos?? Dear Gawd, as it was, it was reasonably simple at the start. It only got a bit convoluted after the other three and the Lunataics and New Thunderra got added into the mix. The Basic Mythos worked for what was going on. Heck, I was in the intended Demographic when the original series aired, and I understood it then!
I'll be willing to give it a chance, but I don't have high expectations for it.
Thank you for the time...

I'm diggin' it. It's kinda hard to screw up a show that wasn't all that great in the first place anyhow *damn you nostalgia warping things*
