I could see that as being intended to be an 18-20 yr old. The face is still boyish, (plus being mixed with cat features, and drawn in an anime influenced style, you're automatically going to end up with a younger looking character, imo) but you don't get a build like that on a 12 yr old.

Agreed about Cheetara, though I think Lion-O is much hotter this time around. 80s Lion-O looked far too much like a clown, and now really creeps me out.

Is anyone else bothered by how "anime" inspired all the cartoons are these days?

I really miss older style animation and seems any time I see a new remake of those old 80s cartoons there redone in some anime-ish fashion and I just don't like it as much.

I prefer the older style animation, though Lion-O did look like a clown.

I'm more concerned that people think there is an "anime" style and that it somehow take precedence over Disney which inspired a lot of Anime creators' styles >.> I hate that people think that it's a bad thing to draw on one style more so than another or that one style becomes more popular for a time. The current styles are merges of the various styles, both eastern and western, that are most attractive to people.

Well, an actual Japanese studio is doing the artwork, so it isn't so much "anime inspired" as it's actual anime style.

I don't mind it when it's done right and of course, Studio 4c is a Japanese company. The older stuff was drawn well, though if memory serves right...a lot of American 80's cartoons were done by the same company >.> Time progresses, anime has been mainstream for around a decade and art styles change/evolve.

What irritates me about this trend is that the producers/execs seem to think that what people want is only the visual style of anime, as if the whole attraction to that particular genre (for lack of a better word) is the way it looks and not the stories that are told.

Ive only seen the Commercials. But as much as I love Gi Joe, and I do , a lot, I won't watch Renegade with the way the animation looks, it looks horrible.

Realize that G.I. Joe: Renegades is produced by the same people that did the MIB animated series (and wouldn't be surprised that the same animation house was used too...), there's enough similarities you can tell.

The Character Designs don't look too bad...
Well except for Lion-o, maybe. I keep expecting a Super Sayian glow coming off of him for some reason...
And Tygra using a gun, in addition to the whip.

What worries me is comments made by the series Producer. While partly quoted in the OP's link, here's what concerns me from the linked article...

Simplifying the Mythos?? Dear Gawd, as it was, it was reasonably simple at the start. It only got a bit convoluted after the other three and the Lunataics and New Thunderra got added into the mix. The Basic Mythos worked for what was going on. Heck, I was in the intended Demographic when the original series aired, and I understood it then!


I'll be willing to give it a chance, but I don't have high expectations for it.
