It'll be so bad that it loops around to good? I mean, how does one go about being worse than 'absolutely terrible'?

Um... I think you need to go back and watch the original Thundercats before continuing with this claim. The artwork might have been fine, but the animation was rather stilted and clunky and the voice acting was absolutely terrible. Furthermore the writing was very... silly. As Nightblade said, it would be a hell of a feat of awfulness for this new Thundercats to be worse than the original.

Maybe it could be so bad that it would give the audience a terminal illness.

For chrissakes, somone make Cheetara eat some food. Has the poor girl been on a hunger-strike or become bulimic?

Also, they want to simplify Thundercats, because the original story was too complicated?!? I think that tells me everything I need to know.

Next form MTV: Voltron! Because 5 lions merging into a giant robot is too complicated, the new Voltron is now just a lion-man robot... all ready for a crossover with Thundercats!

Shoot me.

*snerk*
i'd watch that.

Yeah, the original Thundercats had some decent(ish) character designs, but the stories were far from complicated, and i have to agree with those that say the animation and voice acting were awful simply because they were awful.

i've rewatched some of the cartoons i enjoyed as a wee little terror and i realize that they were frequently awful. i can't believe how badly animated some of them were. In some cases i think hiring tweeners was considered too expensive, so they used half as many as should have been there to not look like garbage, and the constant recycling of previous scenes in new episodes, or even the same episode... Oy vey. Fortunately my standards back then were much lower.

Dr. Todt's theme.
i make stuff...

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)
Transformers Animated
TMNT
GI Joe: Resolute
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I'm hard-pressed to think of a single instance where an 80s cartoon property was rebooted and it wasn't handled with care--and, dare I say it, sometimes came out a lot better than the source material. The people who reboot these shows, thus far, obviously have a lot of love for these series and have done right by them.

I say, give 'em more. Reboot Centurions. Reboot Bravestarr. Reboot Bionic Six. Reboot M.A.S.K. Reboot Jem--well okay, no, don't reboot Jem. It's too fantastically 80s and it should be left preserved in all its glitz and glam awesomeness.

Although probably quite a few years before the time of most people on here, I always liked Thundarr the Barbarian. It's sort of a post-apocalyptic mash-up of Conan the Barbarian and Star Wars. He even had a lightsaber-like sword and a Wookiee-like buddy.

Were it up to me, I'd completely eliminate the Fantasy elements altogether and focus entirely on the Science Fiction side of it. It reminds me a lot of the Philip Jose Farmer novel Dark Is The Sun, where these primitive people trekking across a dying Earth kept encountering tech which was just bizarre but totally cool. Thundarr felt like that to me as a kid.

Ghostbusters is due an anmiated reboot. Extreme Ghostbusters didn't really count as it was more of a belated continuation. It even had an episode with the original four back together for one last mission, with the surviving voice actors in their old roles.

Uhm you gave the perfect example of where that didn't happen right there. Transformers Animated was awful in every way.

Its never been better than the source material in any case. Thats what worries me. They always take the worst possible way in doing it. My biggest gripe in all cases has been voice acting and animation style. I look back on all the good cartoons from the 80's and early 90's and feel sad that one day when I have kids they will never get to experience quality shows like that because its just going to be a twisted rehash that should never have been rebooted. I would have to say out of all the recent cartoons the only one that stuck out above the rest of them has been Avatar. Its how a kids cartoon should be made, its something I could put on the same level as the 80-90's stuff.

Thats the problem it could never be done right. I am so against the movie they are trying to do losely based on voltron. If it ever gets to the point where they are filming it I will do everything within my power to see to it that all copies of the film are destroyed before it ever makes it to the theaters.

I rather loved the voice acting in Thundercats. It added a dimension to the characters that added more to them than any extra storyline could. I especially loved panthro's voice as well as mum-ra

Dammit Ironik!!

Ok, now that I've gone back and watches the beginning, I might as well keep going through the rest of them. Atleast I have the Disc Sets on my shelf so I don't rely on YouTube.

IMO most '80s cartoons could stand a reboot with a production staff who takes whatever they're working on a bit more seriously than the people in the '80s did (that makes sense, right?). Some of the concepts are still pretty cool, despite the cheap-o animation and voice acting.

Voltron and Star Blazers are two that I'd like to see remade. Both are series that I want to like, but every time I try to watch an episode I get turned off by acting that makes William Shatner look down right Shakespearean in comparison. I can take the dated animation and cheesy sound effects, but as soon as any of the characters open their mouths... bleah.

I agree. (especially the cartoon network He-man, that was waaay better than both the 80s and the especially lame 90s version.) I'd love to see them go back and redo most those and then some. I'm frankly we haven't seen a M.A.S.K. reboot yet to be honest. (or an attempt at a live action film.) Add galaxy rangers and visionaries as others Id like to see get again stab.

I'll never get the oh they'll butcher it and these properties are too sacred of cows to reboot mentality.(given some of those shows were not all that or simply don't hold up well.) I like there to be new adventures to see of IPs. Sure some reboots will suck, but they don't stop the original from existing. There's beating a property to death, but these things have all been shelved mroe than long enough to say that's not the case.

I was a fan of all those, and would be on board with that. (thought I know some of them were veiled in nostaliga and best left there.particularly in the case of voltron.)

Victorian ear implants/hearing aid heh? (pictures a Victrola looking steam punk device sticking out of the posters ear.)
