  1. I am really going to miss this forum. City of Heroes was the first internet community I ever joined. Lurking and engaging in conversations has taught me a lot, and has expanded my world in so many ways I can scarcely begin to count them.

It's funny. The closure announcement made me sad, but didn't bring me to tears. But just writing this has me choked up and my eyes watering. It is far beyond my ability to articulate how much this place means to me.

Thank you all, so very much.
  2. Not making more friends when the ones I had gradually stopped playing. Meeting people and making friends doesn't really come easily for me.

Nope, seeing Armin Shimerman's cameo was probably the best part of the episode for me. He's a fun actor, and I get a kick out of seeing him do stuff where he's not caked in all that makeup.

It was like seeing Wallace Shawn, AKA Grand Nagus Zek, do a couple of episodes in the last seasons of Eureka.

I'm more curious about how many seasons it will get. If it's the same level of quality as RvB, then there's no doubt I'll be left wanting more.

Also, I hope they make some shirts for the series. An individual silhouette of each character would be awesome.

That's how you know that it's Monty Oum's baby. His style of fight choreography tends to use a lot of those sweeping, frantic, grand movements that are very eye catching to say the least.

Here's a direct link to the trailer for RWBY (pronounced Ruby, as I understand) for anyone interested.

Don't forget the Americans who think Washington D.C. is in Washington state.

I think it's just for multi-player stuff. Probably unlocks different weapons and armor and the like as players rank up.

No, he's not. Worst US president in history would be either Pierce or Buchanan. Neither president did anything to help stop the country on it's march down the road to civil war, and in fact probably made the situation worse. Carter, for all his faults, never caused a radical split in the nation that lead to a long, bloody conflict in which American killed American.

People have such short memories in this country, jeeze.

  13. Camel Snot. Because of the awesome name.
  14. Perhaps if we used some sort of death clock...
  15. In Star Trek Online in space, you can pop a Weapons Battery, which provides a boost to weapon power for a brief period, and in a way is both a Rage and Catch a Breath. On the ground you get Power Cells, which provides a direct damage boost. You also have hyposprays for health, and shield batteries for, well, shields. Space also gets shield batteries, but there aren't any consumables that will repair your hull (your bridge officers do have abilities that do that, though). Engine batteries can sort of boost a ship's defense indirectly (defense is based on how fast your ship moves, among other things). But there's nothing that will boost accuracy or resistance, and there's certainly nothing like an Awaken or Break Free.
  16. Is it set in a Star Trek convention where terrorists dressed as Klingons take hostages?

We had our first fleet event yesterday, and I think it went very well. It was a run of several of the Borg Special Task Forces, starting with Infected. Had a few deaths, but there's not really a death penalty. Hopefully we'll be able to make it a weekly thing, and maybe even add a few other events to the schedule.

Is there any guide I can reference that will explain to a complete novice what skills should be chosen for what build types? The amount of information and options just appears staggering at this point.

Ground skills, space skills, bridge officer skills, consoles, equipment, ship equipment.

Makes IO builds seem kinda simple.
I'm not a min/maxer, so I can't really tell you what the absolute best build is for whatever class/ship you're running. Best I can do is point you toward the STO Academy Build Sharer and Skill Planner. There's also the STO wiki page on Skills for a more general explanation of what they do. A lot depends on what kind of ship you're flying and what abilities you have your BOffs using, but there is a lot more flexibility in the newer system and it's easier to switch between ship types without having to do a total respec.

My main, for example, is a tactical captain who usually flies science ships. Her points are distributed more heavily in the appropriate science skills. But, when I'm doing a Special Task Force, I have her fly an escort. She's not specifically specced for escorts, so she's not really getting the most out of the damage they can do, but she's not uselessly gimped, either.

No, I really enjoyed DA2. Wasn't fond of emo Anders, but smart-a** Hawke-ette more than made up for it. Also, being able to make non-white characters who come from non-white families was a nice touch. Not like DA:O where you'd mysteriously be the only black person in your family of white nobility (although that was funny).

    Okay, not kidding.
Well you know how strict bees are when it comes to height and weight requirements.

The whole point of having a quasi-military force like Starfleet is to approach massive problems in an organized, regimental way. That would require the setting and maintaining of standards which every member was expected to comply with. Scattering the Federation's resources across every flavor of starship under the sun(s) would seem to fly in the face of the efficiencies a real fleet would get using a handful of standard designs... not to mention that maintaining decades-old (even centuries-old!) ships would be a massive resource drain in its own right.

BUT, we have to remember that STO was never intended to be a Starfleet simulator. And its players, like those of any MMO, would scream bloody murder if the ability to create ships and/or uniforms that were completely unique was ever taken away. Can you imagine what CoH would have been like if EVERYBODY were required to wear one of a handful of basic Longbow uniforms, without deviation or accessorizing?
Yeah, not a fan of player kitbashing, either, even though I know it's a Star Trek tradition. As for the uniforms, that doesn't bother me that much. I'd rather have the mishmash of uniforms than be forced to wear the crappy uniform that starbase NPCs wear, or the ugly uniform from All Good Things.

The actual starbase system is located in the Eta Eridani sector block. For Feds it's not far from K-7, and KDF it's not far from Ganalda. Even if you don't put any work into it, you'll have a base that you can visit. The exterior will appear to be under construction, but the interior will be complete, if non-functional. Most functions have to be unlocked before you can use them. I think the only exception is the ship store, although only standard ships will be available, not fleet ships.

If you want, you can take a look at what PEF has got so far. We've done most of the featured projects, and we've got all of the T1 construction projects done. Just give a shout in the CoX channel and if someone's available they can invite you to the starbase map.

edit: and I'll definitely be online on Wednesday evening, for an attempt to get a fleet STF run going, so you can message me directly if you haven't been able to take a look by then.

edit2: And as for some of the benefits of completing fleet projects, you get access to Fleet Ships, which are (slightly) better versions of existing ships, as well as T5 versions of lower level ships like the Nova and Saber. There's also fleet gear, for ground and space, and it's pretty good stuff. There's also DOff assignments, a tailor, mail/bank access, a transwarp hub, a respec officer, BOff trainer, ship tailor, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting.

Well, it's pretty easy to burn out on STO when the endgame is so grindy. I haven't been on that much lately, either, due to burnout. These days I tend to just pop on to work on my DOff progress. Then I move over to TSW.

But, I'm going to try to get a fleet event going and see if we can make it a weekly thing. The plan is to run the featured Special Task Force on Wednesdays (normal, not elite). They've been divided into separate space and ground stages, and I know I can lead people through the space stage (space part is pretty easy, ground is where things get difficult). They're pretty quick to run, too, maybe 20 minutes max. So if you've got the time, come join the fun. Details are in the events part of the fleet window.

And now for something completely different...
  24. Oh, we all have our nerd-rage buttons. And STO is great in that it manages to press them in one way or another. My biggest problem tends to be the player ships. Cryptic has more or less given the green light to every ship that was ever in Trek (that CBS has rights to use). This leads having ships that are inappropriate for the time period, like the TOS Constitution and its refit, and the NX class from Enterprise. Then, of course, there's the current Temporal Lock Box thing (yeah, if you thought CoH nickle and dimed you, CoH ain't got nothin on STO), which has a chance to award a 31st Century Wells Class timeship. Because letting players use that thing totally makes sense in the context of the setting. And then you've got ship classes that, IMO, would've been retired from the active roster in favor of newer, more robust classes. For example, I always thought that the Excelsior class would eventually be phased out in favor of the Akira as the fleet's new workhorse.

I could go on, but instead I'll just repeat the MST3K mantra and think of something else.

And B4 isn't Data. They specifically (the game) make it out to be the original, like the ending of Nemeis never actually happened.
She gave birth, but actually I think we're both confusing her kid for Toral, her brother's illegitimate son. It's Toral's kid who we have to deal with in STO.

And it is Data, but restored in B-4's body. The way they played it was that Geordi did some work on B-4 so that Data's matrix (or whatever the hell), which he'd uploaded to B-4 before he blew up, would become fully active and take over.

edit: at any rate, as much as I enjoy STO, there are problems, especially with the writing. The Federation mission Divide et Impera stands out as one of the worst missions in any game ever.
