Castle: The Final Frontier

That's the name of last night's episode. It's set at a SciFi/Comic convention and is loaded with a variety of geek inside jokes. The episode was directed by Jonathan "Commander Riker" Frakes, ends with a song sung by Shatner and features Molly Quinn, who plays Nathan Fillion's daughter Alexis on the series, as a scantly clad cosplayer as seen here (sorry that's all you get to see her in that). And the actor playing the captain of the defunk "Nebula 9" tv series is none other than Nathan Stark from Eureka (I didn't recognize him with that hair and no facial hair). Even a Princess Bride reference shows up in the episode.

Very geektastic.

I liked how they made the comparisons between Nebula 9 and Firefly. Also, you get to hear Castle say, "Shiny...".

Molly Quinn is just too kewt. I think she would make an absolutely perfect Barbara Gordon Batgirl.

That picture of Beckett in her Lt. Chloe outfit? Homina homina...

Well Molly would be about the same age as a youngest daughter for me so I would totally get the "how do I un-see that" as it dawns on you that you just unconsciously ogled your daughter.

Closest I came to that was when I finally realized a friend's mostly live in girlfriend at the time, who paraded around the apartment in rather tight PJs or the occasional (or not so since he bought her one for every color in the rainbow) Chinese silk dress, was actually my boss's boss's daughter who I only met once when she was like 12. I think my head spun like Beetlejuice.

Don't forget the big villians in Nebula 9..."Creavers"...evil monsters who ate humans. Presumably after ****** them to death, but before sewing our skin into their clothes.

Isn't that sort of like the episode of Castle, where he meets the model, only to realize it was his daughters babysitter

Yea, like that. Just saw that episode recently as the first few seasons are now in syndication.

I know this is slightly belated, but was I the only one who saw the guy selling the working blasters and said "OMG, that's the ferengi from deep space nine!"

Well, the first thing I said was "holy crap, I want a working blaster!" but the ferengi thing was a close second.

Nope, seeing Armin Shimerman's cameo was probably the best part of the episode for me. He's a fun actor, and I get a kick out of seeing him do stuff where he's not caked in all that makeup.

It was like seeing Wallace Shawn, AKA Grand Nagus Zek, do a couple of episodes in the last seasons of Eureka.

You see Wallace Shawn and think of Grand Nagus Zek?

I find that inconceivable.

Who else would I think of him as? He didn't do anything else of note.

In case you didn't know it, he was also Principal Snyder in Season 3 of Buffy, so there's a Joss Whedon connection as well.

And since the cameo was the very first thing in the episode and it went by quickly, I didn't recognize that it was Riker who was Castle's "number one fan".

And Jonathan Frakes (Riker) directed the episode.

Yes, mentioned that in the OP. Read later that he had a cameo and later still saw an on set photo with him in the "I Love Richard Castle" t-shirt as I was looking for a Molly Quinn in costume picture because I didn't want to fire up Hulu just to get a better look at that scene.

Eventually stumbled onto this of her in costume.

Also just found out that Stana Katic (Beckett) did the voice of Oracle in the fan experience. Now I have to fire up Hulu to give it a listen.

Finally, you witness the power of this FULLY ARMED, LEGGED AND DANGEROUSLY RUGGEDLY HANDSOME NATHAN FILLION!

...and lasers.

Basically, freezeframe EVERYTHING in this episode for in-jokes from everything from BSG to Trek to... and lots and lots of Firefly. Quite liked posters for an action film starring "Kaylee Frye"...

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?
