    Devs moving on

I know this is pure speculation, but if Matt Miller and Bianco and others from this team do pull something together in the form of a new game. I'm there the moment I hear about it.

    QFT!!

God I'm going to miss these boards...
  3. I remember being hooked by the sights and sounds of the character creation screen, the unique feel of all of it.

Slogging to level 8 or 9 solo then finding out Teaming got things done so much faster

Seeing the first person flying over head in Atlas on my way to the hollows for the first time. I'm obsessed with flying, I asked what I needed to do to get flight, people told me I had to be level 14. I was level 8 or so at the time. By the time I got to 14 and got flight. I was hooked.

I remember the first handful of characters I ever started, wondering if I or the game would last long enough for me to get them to 50. It did, I got 23 of my guys to 50. 1 of each AT

I remember how awesome this community always was at helping me learn more about this great game.

I remember both the original tutorials. When Radio missions were introduced, when veteran rewards was a new, novel idea.
  4. Ohh.. and D&D can be seriously fun! (My first and only game of D&D was with positron and a few other players, and a couple devs hanging out. It was a blast, Positron donated his time for charity, and I'm still very happy with that memory.)
  5. I've learned a lot from this game, I'm sure others have too, so in 7 years (or how ever long you've played, what have you learned.)

    Here's what I've learned -

    - Badge collecting is strangely addictive.

    - Paragon wiki is your friend.

    - Devs hate Villains.

    - If you're using an energy blaster, you can either Fly and shoot down to mitigate KB, or get used to your team mates complaining about it.

    - Gravity\Storm controllers are a blast!

    - Real Life costume events are just as fun as the in game counterparts.

    - Jay is unbelievably sexy.

    - Things are better with partners or teams, be it an 8 man tour-de-force that rips through TFs like wet tissue, or being able to tactically plan and get super into things with a girlfriend sitting at the computer next to you.

    - Free to play is not a dirty word.

    - Things that are impossible\ AREN'T... Thing's that Can\will never happen. WILL.

The things I can think of off the top of my head that people said would never happen in this game, that did.

    - Power customization
    - Side Switching
    - Wings
    - Backpacks
    -Quivers (In issue 24)
  6. Honestly. I might try DCU, I didn't think much of Champions. But I'm just likely not going to play other MMOs. I've tried a few, none captured my attention and imagination like CoH did. It took 5 minutes for me to love this game (about the time I figured out my level 1 super hero could do a standing jump over a 6-8 foot tall fence, and I thought what a great way to capture being super even at a base level.)

So my characters will remain lost in the darkness until CoH2 or something like it comes around and gives me the chance to remake some and make new ones in a similarly creative way.
  7. I haven't been a regular part of the CoH community in a while. I've been absent the last couple updates, and missed the last community event for the first time in years. This was due in large part to a bad break up I went through with my ex, shortly after the community event in November last year.

I started CoH back in 2005, I remember the afternoon, sitting in a new apartment, early october the rain coming down, checking out the game that I downloaded from Direct2Drive because I was curious and wanted to see what it was like before I invested in buying CoV which was due out later that month.

I met My ex girlfriend the following summer in 2006 and was with her until last november. I've been playing CoH going on 7 years and was with her for 5 and a half years of that. I got her into the game after a time and we played together quite a bit. she came to events with me, met many of you, met the Devs and she wasn't a huge gamer but she really got into the game.

so after we broke up it's been really hard for me to return to the game. I've followed the updates and looked at the features and it seems like the game was still doing well from the development standpoint. I popped in for a bit to checkout the DA revamp and I've sort of kept checking the news on occasion. I only recently started playing again this last week, trying to get back into this wonderful game that I fell in love with in the first 5 minutes of playing.

I'm unbelievably sad to hear this news. though it fits that I'm looking out the office window on a cloudy day when I hear it. If I had known, I'd have been playing the last several months non stop.

To the Devs: You guys have all been amazing. Every interaction I've had with all of you on the Boards and in Person has been very positive. You've all kept this game going a long time and kept it fresh and exciting to the point that 24 issues in I was still jonesing for the next update.

I remember my first Hero con, The first official Hero con, and meeting some of the Devs for the first time over a game of D&D with positron, with others there. I remember costume contests, in person and in game, my first 50 and so many other good memories of video gaming and meeting people in this wonderful community and it is all because of the hard work of the Devs and the Community relations team. I was so excited being at Paragon studios just last summer, Seeing "Freedom" announced and having my feedback heard, being able to talk to the Devs. It's all been amazing, this is an amazing group of people and I just can't express how sad I am to see it go like this, so suddenly. I honestly hope that NCsoft has the sense to keep this franchise alive in other forms, and to keep the Devs who have done so much for it, Particular Clayton, Miller and Bianco, on board to work on other games, but it CoH2 or other forms of CoH as I think this game, this franchise has a lot of space to grow and could make wonderful sandbox or other types of action games.

To the community: I've made some friends over the years here. Seen old friends vanish and new ones come. I've had a few wonderful people help me build my super group and villain group. I've had fun talking with you at events and honestly, to this day one of my favorite memories of City of heroes was when I first figured out how chat worked. Some where in my second game session as I began to really get a feel for the game, my first MMO (the only one to keep my attention for more than 10 minutes.) When I started asking questions in Broadcast... no one called me dumb, no one called me a Newb. I got helpful messages in broadcast and in tells from people just trying to help a new player out. I got pointed to the boards, and other sites that at the time held CoH information in droves, some of which no longer exist. This community welcomed me, made me feel at home, and while I may not have gotten along with everyone, I never felt like people shut me down, or shut me out for not knowing something. If I ever see some one walking the streets in CoH gear, I'll shake your hand because you've all been amazing, especially on my home server of Virtue.

I can't thank you all enough. I'm sad to see this go, I'm sad my little home on Virtue won't be there anymore. I really thought this game might go one a few more years with Freedom, and I am hoping that something changes, and this game might continue on. If it does, I'll be happy, if It doesn't, life will go on and I'll always have good memories of this game and these people.

I'll be carving more time out of my schedule to play until the server shuts down.. I'll miss the christmas event this year, it was one of the things I enjoyed with extra time off around the holidays. hopefully things will run through the halloween event...

And once more, I can't thank the Devs enough for all of their hard work and wonderful experiences I've had with them. Really time and again they proved they were here for us, listened to us and worked with us to make the game better, if every dev team operated this way, a lot of games would be much better. Other games should learn from this dev team.

    See you in Virtue!

While yes, there's a lot *recently* (as they're trying to get some stretch out of the new rig,) on balance it's not all that bad.
Granted, but I never said it was all they did recently, just that they've done a lot of it. And they have, since animal pack, no other theme has really gotten as much love as "animal". Sure there have been other powersets and lots of other stuff in the game, but Titan weapons didn't get 9 weapons packs. It got one.

All I'm saying is, the animal stuff has come on really heavy, and maybe it's selling like hot cakes, but I don't see that many of them (outside beast mastery) running around in the game, and honestly I think they can dial it down a little for a bit. I don't think we need a new animal in the game as often as we've been getting them.
  9. Can I get a freaking tiger? Lions and Ligers are fine but I'd rather have a tiger.

Or anything but new animals. German Shephards, Cyote power, then the dark beast in dark control, and then Beast Mastery, now Lions and Ligers. This whole game has gone to the dogs... (Sorry I couldn't help myself.)

But seriously, since the animal pack last year and now all this stuff, bat auras and what have you, I'd be happy if we got back away from the animals a bit. I know it's popular with some folks but it seems like in a short time we've gotten inundated with animal updates.

Less animals and more Super for me please.
  10. ----SPOILER ALERT!-----

    Incarnates in Spaaace!

So seriously, freaking awesome chapter and a great finale to the first SSA Series..

I am digging that Rularuu played a role, and the ending with Wade seems to indicate future involvement with Rularuu. Maybe some of the other areas of the Shadow shard, previously mentioned only in pieces of the lore will show up as new zones?

Also the final battle stage, in space that island looked very moon like. The stars, the earth in the back ground... Seems like the first step towards a moon zone...

Which got me to thinking, the letter writer mentioned some space fleet coming called the Battalion, if they are in space, can we say moon zone?

So on the horizon, Rularuu, maybe update\expansion of the Shadow Shard, and Moon zone?

Also with all the animal stuff that's coming out, the recent release of the Muppet Movie, and the Moon zone, maybe we'll see a crossover and have SSA #2 Be all about Pigs in space?

Maybe that's a stretch but the rest seems feasible.

Either way, Chapter 7 of SSA#1 was freaking Epic!
  11. All I ask for is some cat stuff to balance it out. Lions and tigers and such.

This is not a simple request, it is an exponential increase in time and work for every new animation that is put into the game.
Forgive me, This may sound silly, but is there no way to work up some sort of automated animation program\tool that would take existing animations and adapt them to alternate movement modes?

I don't know why, (and I'm no kind of artist) but it seems like something that should be able to be automated in some way...

  14. So I've been away from CoH For a few weeks, since shortly before Xmas and it seems I've missed a lot since the team came back from holiday!

So SSA5 was pretty cool, Statesman died and that whole mission was just epic, I especially liked the rain and weather effects (HINT HINT devs...)

Anyway, anyone know if Statesman will be given a proper grave\memorial somewhere in the game where our heroes\villains can go to pay our respects\disrespects?

If you wanna know what Gi Joe is all about, read the comics, Marvel's original run, or the more recent ones by Image\Devils Due, or even the more recent ones by IDW.

this movie, is NOT Gi Joe. "Rise of Cobra" Was an abomination of Gi Joe, and even worse, it was just a bad freaking movie with horrible acting, questionable SFX, bad writing and a bad story.

Now this movie, seems like they pulled some of the crap actors from the last movie, and their characters. A shame since Scarlett isn't listed on IMDB, and I always liked her character. The actress, Rachel Nichols, who played her though did a horrible job, though to be fair the character was horribly written.

No Ripcord or Breaker this time, fine by me, ancillary characters at best. Not sure when Roadblock got to be leader of the unit, but still better than Heavy Duty.

Bruce Willis is good, but I'm not sure he fits General Joe Colton.

I'm excited for the additions of Lady Jaye and Jinx to the Cast, I'm glad to see Cobra commander in his proper helmet, and the cast has some actual names in it now... But given the travesty that was the first movie, I just can't think this is going to be any good.

Channing Tatum is back as Duke... Horrible choice, but it makes the decision to have Johnson as "Roadblock" being the leader much more understandable.

Characters of Flint, Tunnel Rat, and Firefly added to the mix, all good stuff. But no General Hawk? And of course Storm Shadow is back ,what was the point of pretending to kill him though if he comes back the very next flick? Also no mention of Baroness or Destro in the IMDB either, which disappoints me, they are good characters if acted and written with any talent what so ever.

Honestly, this movie might have a few good things going for it, they pulled many of the bad actors from the last movie but seemed to pull the characters with them, so it's a wash. Also any sequel to the last story... I just can't see it being good..

So now time will tell, will I see it in movie with the vague hopes my faith in a Live action GI Joe Movie I waited since my child hood for might be fullfilled, or will i stand on principle and after seeing the insult they called the first movie and skip this one. Time will tell.

    <----- Huge GI Joe nerd.

  18. I gotta say, I'm only vaguely familiar with the rules of your tournament (I glossed over them a while back and it made my brain hurt a little.) but given what I know, I think I'm more impressed by your getting 1 level 50 char, than any set set of multiple 50s on any account I've seen.

Bravo to you for doing it. Bravo to you for making up your own rules and guidelines for doing it, double Bravo to you for sticking to those rules and doing it!
  19. hopefully they fix this problem soon. I just had a bear of a time trying to figure out why I couldn't change costumes on my MM and I asked on help, got none, submitted a bug report, got nothing. I found this thread and was like hey, "my MM has mace mastery too..." So now I'm going to try switching builds. Horrible bug.
  20. I still think the best thing to do with costumes in super packs, and costumes for Tier 9 VIPs, is keep them in those slots exclusively for a while as a preview or what ever, then cycle them out, put them on a store and put new costume pieces in Tier 9 or in the packs. That way those who don't have Tier 9 or want to buy the packs can get them eventually, while those that have Tier 9 or will buy the packs, can still get them sooner and have their fun faster etc.
  21. I think that's just about the coolest damned thing ever. "So here guys, put a bunch of players in a room, ask them some pie in the sky ideas for what they'd like to see in a costume pack... They spend a couple hours throwing out ideas, we sketch it and yeah... Put that in the game.."

I'm not sure if other game companies have actually done something like that (outside of strict focus groups or something) but honestly, wow, I think that's a really cool thing to do, it doesn't get much more studio-player interactive than that!

And I think the pack would be cool as hell..
  22. I had qualms about Batman Begins.. Then I saw it and was very impressed with Christopher Nolan and his ability to make a really solid Batman movie.

I had qualms about The Dark Knight, then I saw it and was very impressed with Nolan's understanding and grasp of all things batman while coming up with his own story and making an incredibly entertaining film that hit all the right notes of the first and making it so much bigger.

So for DKR, I say, In Nolan I trust. I have qualms about the look of Bane, I'm unsure how Catwoman is going to fit in it and Hatheway in the role, but in Nolan I trust.

I really liked inception too, and frankly, I'll see anything Nolan does at this point up until he starts missing.
  23. Ice_Wall

    Immortals?

Its a decent flick. I felt the story was solid, if a little rushed in places, the action scenes were over the top but fun and entertaining. I will say I think the dialog was prety bad in a lot of places, but what ever.

Not the best movie in the world, certainly reminiscent of 300 in some places but over all a decent movie. Sometimes watching the fight scenes I felt like they did their anatomy research playing Mortal Kombat, but it was fun to watch.
