63+ month vet here and no beta invite...it seems that quite a few invites went to people who haven't played before (to maybe lure them back?).

We get to go in closed beta for Going Rogue...and that will actually have content to it (I suppose at least ) and not just power customization (don't take that the wrong way I love PC but...just no 'content' that has been announced at least).

I'm disappointed.
Oh well, I can do other things until then.

Maybe I am wrong on this, But isn't the first round of invite the lightest. SO only the a trusted few get in the first week. Then it ramps up.

If the first round really was "a trusted few," it probably wouldn't include those who haven't had active accounts in quite some time.

(I got invited to the Closed Beta for... Issue 13, I think... while my account was briefly inactive. It got me to re-sub a few days earlier than I'd planned to. )

Isn't this the thruth. All well, I never could kneel for anything, so why start for this.

(I don't kneel in front of baby Jesus' statue, so no beta enticement can make me)

And I have been here since the first day of launch. If I get in a closed beta, I enjoy it, if not, then not. Being here a long time is not really that special, there are a lot of us around, more than they can probably use for the beginning part of a closed beta. The only time long time subscribers have gotten rewarded for that is COV Beta (And I was like the 3rd wave invited into that) and GR when its beta starts. Otherwise, we do not know the criteria for getting invited, they will not tell us. (Except for some obvious ones like Arcanaville. Not having her in a closed beta with power changes would be sub-optimal. )

So just play the game, if you get an invite, go test, if not, have fun on live.

If you want into a beta test for being a loyal customer, stick around for Going Rogue.

Many forumites didn't see this announcement because it was released during the forum transition, but I for one am excited

Here's the thing - the initial betas of any software product are not happy wanderings through meadows of pretty flowers and well-polished experiences. They're buggy. They crash. Things don't work as expected. Servers go down. Dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria! Ok, it's not usually mass hysteria.

The whole point of a limited beta is to give the developers the feedback they want - it's not done to provide a perk for the testers. In order to achive that goal, you restrict the exposure of the software to people you reasonably expect to test it (sometimes in a very directed way), and not be unhappy that things aren't "done" yet. By their very nature, they're supposed to be "exclusive", both in the nature of the people they ask to test, and the number of people they want testing it.

I'm not in the beta - I've been here since day one, and I'm entirely confident that once they're reasonably sure that if they send it out into the cold, cruel world that it won't blow up in their face, they'll let us all play with the pretty new toys.

It's possible that they'll broaden the audience of the beta once things get closer to "live" - they've done so in the past, but I think they've always started with smaller, closed betas first, and then expanded the pool later, if they felt it would help before putting it on test.

In the meantime, we'll just have to wait. It'll go on the test server before it hits live, which will give everyone a chance to see and comment on it before it's real.

Outstanding! I had not seen this -- thanks, Obsidius.

Still their sandbox, we just play in it. No one's "entitled" to any kind of "preview", regardless of what anyone might think.

Though I can't help but giggle at the people who read the original statement and automatically apply a negative interpretation. It was a poorly-worded statement that could be read either way.

Silly pessimists. You're all like someone who'd complain about getting too much change back because you don't have enough room in your pocket.

Better to read it tentatively negative at first and be happily proven wrong, than to read it positively, go nuts, and then face the inevitable crash and doomcrying.

At least, that's better for my blood pressure.

Better to read it a second time with different glasses on, shrug, and realize you know no more or less than you did before.

Hear, hear. I just figure I'm on a "do not invite" list. Maybe I shouldn't have called States a ravening lunatic when the whole "let's try to sneak in ED" thing blew up...

As far as I know, only Martial arts and Super Strength have complete alternate animations that you can choose from, and the secondary effects from those can be re colored, as well.
Any clue if we can mix and match animations? I would love MA/ with a mix of old and new... that sweeping kick makes me giggles...how can a sweeping kick NOT cause knockup?!

Yes, you can select animations and colors on each individual power. Furthermore, you can select different power tweaks on different costumes. You could even make two identical costumes with different animations and swap costumes occasionally so that your character uses all of the options.

Posting something completely unrelated. Thanks to being linked to BaBs twitter page, I now know he plays Civ4. I just want to make a quick comment, civ4 is evil and fun. I played a game on Noble as the Japanese (Tokugawa) in a Huge map intent on winning by conquering the world in the era of the samurai. I ended up winning in 1990 something by getting to Alpha Centuri first. Ahh, how you can change history.

heh. You're in good company. I too haven't been involved in any of the closed betas other than COV in the beginning. Back when pet controls for Masterminds were a nightmare, what with your pets running off and trying to "smack" everything in sight.. ohh those were the days. Still. BaB did send me a PM telling me that there are "a ton of 60 month vets" in the closed beta. My point wasn't that there aren't any in there, my point was that as 60 month vets, we've been with the game the longest and have seen the good AND the bad. I would think we were in a unique position to give excellent feedback. Ah but by my own hand, I have kept silent. From now on, I am going to be a LOT more vocal on the boards and in game with feedback to keep CoH/CoV in the flavor of awesome that it is right now!

Since all of the Dark sets are becoming customizable; can that actualization of that customization be ported to the Dark Shield in the Shield Defense set?

Currently; no matter what you do with the color settings of the 'Dark' Shield; it remains a purplish-black mass.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"

*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

He didn't miss the first one, although he did disagree with most of it.

Yay for entitlement issues and not knowing what a closed beta is about!!
