I hate to disagree, but it was quickly announced. It was announced less than 2 hours before they did it. Usually maintenance is done at 7am or 9 am EST, not 11 EST and usually announced the evening before. Seems like something that just came up this morning.

Yes, only VIPs can pay supergroup base upkeep. I'm not sure it's actually been officially documented anywhere, but I remember a thread around here somewhere discussing it.

Right now, I'm sitting on my hands and waiting. There are Street Justice characters I want to play and I don't want to play anything else if I know Street Justice will come out later today. If it's NOT going to come out later today, then I can just go ahead and play those other characters.
While I appreciate Zwill's joke thread yesterday, I kind of want a serious announcement today, because I'd like to know what's going on.

I have to admit, I didn't actually see the invasion announcement post upon a quick first glance of the announcement forum either. But I knew they'd posted it to the CoH Facebook page, so I went there to get the direct link and post it here.
After I did that, I went back to the announcement forum and saw it then. -

What if we provided guidelines so that posts were easily identifiable within each forum?
I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying. There's a rather large amount of forums to sift through here on our boards, and to a new, or even veteran player who hasn't spent time on the forums, it's a bit confusing.
Forums should be easy to understand at a glance.

Unfortunately, while that option is available for VIP accounts, it purposefully go away as soon as you drop down to Premium. You can still hide the Rewards button, but not the Shop one. That is the gist of my complaint.

You are quite right, I probably made it sound like a much bigger deal than it actually is (for me, anyway). It's the principle of the thing that rubs me off the wrong way, but it's small enough that it can be stuck somewhere where it can be forgotten.
Under Options, just scroll down to "Prompts" and enable the "Hide Paragon Market button" and "Hide Paragon Rewards button" (or words to that effect). You can always access the two via the main menu, so there's really no need to have them cluttering up your screen.
EDIT: Bad information (at least for Premium players). Can't make the Market button go away once you're Premium.
