Thank you devs, past and present, for this wonderful game.

I wanted to throw in my own "Thank You" to the devs and everyone at Paragon. I didn't play as long as some who started in Beta, and I only played for about 4 years before going to a month to month.. but wow.

CoH was my first MMO, and I remember spending WAY too many hours playing after work, blowing up everything I could find to blow off some steam. When CoV came out I gleefully switched to red side and stayed there for the rest of my game time. I recently moved my Mastermind over to blue, and am still tickled at zombies in Atlas.

To put it plainly, I am really, REALLY bummed right now. Not only because a game that I really do love is shutting down, but also because a lot of people lost their jobs today. I wish you all the very best and hope you can find something soon doing something you love.

Thanks for all the memories, and I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do. Hopefully making another awesome superhero MMO

I LOVE YOU GUYS. :bawl:

Guys... you took something good, and made it AWESOME.

Nevermind that it never took off to the degree Warcraft did. You didn't have the marketing machine or the budget to do that. you accomplished wonders with what you had, you made us all feel part of the game, and helped build a community that I hope will endure past the passing of this franchise.

If you all decide to form your own game dev biz, speak up. We'll be happy to help you out, be it crowdsource funds, game testers, content writers, designers, video cutscene and sound, whatever you want.

Just adding my voice. I have a thank you to give to all of the devs that I don't think anyone else has said. I left WoW because it was fulof negativity, not just the community (but that was hostile too) but in the plot and story. All the races in the lore were eitehr evil or corrupt or current plots were about them falliing or being taken over. Runescape was a tyrrany overwhelming a corrupt kingdom frozen in time. Star Wars the emire is psychotically evil and the repubic is fallen and corrupt. But here, here in City of Heroes if I wanted to I could be a real hero, there were good guys. It was clean and it was positive.

I don't know any other game where I can have this experience. I will sorely miss it. And for giving me that opportunity for so many years, for writig so many great stories and fun mechanics and never slipping into the glorification of evil or negation goodness, I truly thank you. City was unique and great from a mechanical standpoint and you uys were totally unique from a community point, but for m there was this other side too. So thank you and bless you and I really hope youall find a good place to go next.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

And even if somehow the servers and code get sold to another company and continue running, the development team will have split up to new jobs long before then. If that happens, we may have the shell of City of Heroes, but it has always been the development and support teams that made it a living place and gave it the character we've come to love over the years. I don't see any other MMO that can replace it, either running now or in development. It -- and all of you -- will sorely be missed.

I started playing in February of 2005, on the recommendation of a friend that ended up shipping off in the military and never got a chance to play with him. I joined the SG that he had just joined and immediately made some amazing friends. I became a leader in that SG and have met several of them in real life. I took a 5 year break after my divorce, but came back with freedom, and re-upped my subscription, and have played daily since then.

City of Heroes has always been the only MMO that I have wanted to play. Even during my very long break I would check back into the forums and see how things were progressing in paragon.

I, like so many before me in this thread, would like extend my genuine and heartfelt thanks to the devs for their time and passion in making CoX the game that I will always love. I wish everyone, player and dev alike the best in their future endeavors. And I will express the sentiment that has been voiced repeatedly already, if you guys happen to make another game, I will be sure to look sign up.

I sincerely hope that the change.org petition that has been started (and already reached 4500+ sigs) can help to save the day.

Best Wishes,
Mark Biondolillo, @DarkReflex

I guess posting up the entire lore bible somewhere online would be out of the question then?

Oh, and so long and thanks for all the fish!

Well, I am in too much shock to say much. I can't think of anything witty or anything. Most o what I want to say has been said already anyway.

I met a number of great people here, some of them even travelling to meet in real life. I love the community and have enjoyed every moment walking the streets or flying the skies of Paragon.

I will miss everyone and hate seeing my characters (my babies!) go...

Now I have to explain to my son (who just started playing and is [i]soooooo[/] proud to be level 23) that he will no longer be able to team with mommy and daddy to fight bad guys.

All I can do is echo the sentiment most people have here. I've been playing since i4 when my friend hooked me with the free trial. Over the years I've had some incredible fun, met some awesome people, and developed plenty of good memories.

To the devs, thank you for all of your hard work trying to make this game a fun as it could be for us. There was never any doubt that you guys always did what you felt was best for the players, especially recently. I can honestly say that no other game has kept me around anywhere near as long as CoH. I will always fondly remember my time spent here.

To the community. You guys are pretty awesome. Even though I've had my rare spats here and there with some of you, and spent most of my posting on the sideline, making useless joke comments, killing threads, or helping with build advice, I have always been amazed at the amount of time and dedication some of you devoted to this game. Breaking down the game mechanics and analyzing every detail of ever system at play is something I could never have poured my time into, and it didn't matter, because so many of you were so willing and able to do it (and a lot better than I would have).

I don't think I made too many waves around here, but to all of you regulars out there, thanks for all the entertainment, information, and understanding you all brought to this game and it's players.

I would also like to state my extreme satisfaction with having my "hotdog getting sprayed in the face with mustard" avatar for years before it got moderated just 2 or 3 weeks ago. Strangely right after I PM'd a dev also... Well anyway, all I can say is thank you all, devs, community, everyone for all of the memories. It's been a great ride, and it'll truly be a sad day when it all goes away forever.

@urobolus, signing off.

I started playing this game waaaaay back in the days of the Winter Lord babies, I'm not even sure what issue it was. I'd been on a bit of a break recently but had started thinking of the game again. I'm going to miss this game and all of my friends in it.

I've made some long winded posts in my day but I don't have enough words for how I feel right now. I feel like I just found out an old friend died. This actually hurts in a way I never thought it would.

I regret nothing.

Not the thousands of dollars I've spent on the game.
Not the TENS of thousands of hours I've played.
Not the thousands of posts on here.
Not a single regen flamewar.
Not a single single thing.

It's been... unreal. Thanks Paragon, thanks friends.

I love every last one of you, And if you decided to reunite and form a self-sustained studio, and decided to make a new IP, you would have my support. You have proven yourselves to be among the most underrated game developers to ever exist, And everything you have done for this game has been nothing short of a masterpiece.

A Belated Thanks -

A few years ago, you guys gave one of your employees (then) Phil a box of City of Heroes stuff for a child with a heart condition that he had met through his girlfriend (now wife).

We barely knew Phil, and only met him through his girlfriend because my husband mentioned our whole family played, and that our son had a serious and life threatening heart condition. Phil decided, without having met us, that he wanted to do something for my kiddo, a CoH fan with some struggles.

We first met him met him the night he came over with books and heroclicks (I spelled that wrong, I bet), and the cape apparently snatched right off of Lord Recluse in the Austin office - Phil coming over to answer questions because he worked for CoH was a surprise holiday present for our son, the box of stuff (and the Arachnos cape and autographed posters and books) completely unexpected and we were shocked.

Phil and his wife became part of the family, and the box of stuff was so sweet, and we were so touched. Thanks for doing that, whoever else was part of it.

The day before his open heart surgery last year, he was in a wheelchair because he was too weak to walk around a museum. The last thing that he wore before going into the hospital was his Freem shirt:

Thank you guys so much. Thanks for the box of stuff, and thanks for creating a game that helped take his mind off the hospital, the pain, and all the crap that he was going through (and thanks for making it work on a dinky laptop, which is all we had in ICU).

Thanks for being the first MMO I could take my kid to without worrying that people would be horrible to him.

You guys made a difference. Thanks.

I just heard the news from a friend. I started playing CoH in 2005 and was my main MMO for 5 years straight. I haven't been logging in for a year or so, but I still drop into the game once in a while.

I'm saddened that it's closing. Thank you so much to the Devs who've made a game that was part of my life for many years. The experiences I've encountered, the friends I've met, it's all thanks to you guys.

I'll be in-game a few more times before and during November 30. It's been a great run.

I hate that in all my time here I've not cared much for forum posting, but today's news is really a shock in so many ways.

I have played since the doors opened, with only a short overseas break, not just myself, but my wife also played on her own account for 6 of those years, and my son as well or the last 6+ years. Heck, I even pay for 2 extra accounts for my sister's kids to join in for the past 3+ years. So for us, this has been a great family outlet, and a place to meet with friends whom I probably won't get to see again otherwise. It has been an enjoyable & safe environment, and never stale... I would like to say a personal thanks to the best Dev team of any game running, bar none.

Who else could have so reinvigorated an older game like this time & again with innovatve and well-executed ideas. I mean ED was a scary time for all of us, but it gave us a new direction and infusion of life through the IO system; Super-Sidekicking is still the BOSS in MMO teambuilding, matched by no other game on the market; Mission Architect! WOW what a great idea for player interaction - so what if a few pushed its boundaries, thats what new life is. The Incarnate system; To expand and grow the game beyond where it was designed to go & with it the constant introduction of new mechanics and plots. So much - and so great.

I was always in love with this game from the first moment of flight, and I say it was not the corporate shell, nor even the genre (surely that wasn't enough to tempt me to others), but I attribute that ongoing love affair to this great Dev team - I thank you, my family thanks you, and many of my friends as well. May you always have the last laugh!

Hey folks, Statesman here.

Nah I'm just kidding. Thanks for all your hard work over the years, congratulations on lasting as long as you did and making a more enjoyable game than the Competitor's Online RPG and the Distinguished Competition Universe Online. City of Heroes has been a consistent part of my life since I was a sophomore in high school and now I'm 24. Over a third of my life I've played this game... it's going to feel a little empty not having it there anymore.

By the way, if any of you devs still have any capability to manipulate the in-game world, how about unleashing a little anarchy? Level bumps for everyone, free incarnate content for all, 9999 Empyrean merits (or whatever the maximum number is), maybe make all set IOs purchasable from a vendor for 1 inf apiece... things like that... c'mon, you know it'd be a great way to go out.

It has been nearly 12 hours since the news broke, and I need to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Paragon Studios team for all of these wonderful hours playing this game. This game has helped me get through some tough times recently. It introduced me to two of my best friends. It was my first MMO, and while I have tried a few others for short times, nothing else comes close.

I especially appreciate how much the devs have tried to please the players. I remember one regular Tank player whose name escapes me at the moment, but he was a fireman in real life and a strong advocate of the Battle Axe set. He was also one of the most helpful people on the Tank forum. As soon as customizable weapons were added to the game, one of the options was a Fire Axe. One of you guys came on the Forums and said that the Fire Axe was specifically designed for this one player. It was awesome and actually touching to see how much you respected and appreciated one of your players.

One of my favorite forum moments: Someone posted a complaint that during Rikti Raids in Steel, all of the players were fighting for their lives while Positron just stood there, not helping. After several joking responses by players, Posi posted, "They're all grey to me, no XP." Perfect answer!

City of Heroes isn't just a game. It is a community, a diversion, a form of therapy, and has been a part of my life since December 2004. I started with one account, and then bought a second for my wife. When she quit playing, I maintained the second account for the kids. My youngest son and I still team up on a regular basis, and it always gives us something to talk about.

It gave me a chance to help people, too. The players of this game have used the forums and the channels to develop an amazing community. I have enjoyed sharing my experience playing this game with others, as it has enhanced my enjoyment. It will be hard to say goodbye.

Thank you, everyone at Paragon Studios.

Wow... OK, I'll add my voice to the THOUSANDS that are speaking out about this news.

I have enjoyed this game since about August of 2004. I wasn't expecting much from an MMO as I had just been completely underwhelmed by Star Wars Galalxies. But from the moment I started playing I was hooked. I even managed to get my wife playing, and we enjoyed hours upon hours of time adventuring together. Add to that, we both convinced her parents to play.

We will all miss this game horribly. My son started playing when he was three years old. He doesn't even remember not having the game to log in to. I'll always remember him running his kinetic defender, in the middle of a big brawl, announcing in a loud voice, "Fulcrum Shift in 3... 2... 1! ! !"

Even though I haven't been on the forums lately, I'll miss the commentary from Memphis Bill, Evil Gecko, Zombie Man... The numbers arguments from Arcanaville... The art posts of Thor's Assassin... The videos of Samuraiko... The camaraderie of old teammates Gatecrasher, Bubblegum Kitty, Pyrella, systems crashes...

I don't want to go to other games... I want this game... with all my friends...

Thanks to the dev team for bringing us all together.

This may be my last post to these forums; I don't post a lot and I'm basically shredded by this development.

But no game / development team / player base / forum has ever held a candle to the one here. I will treasure when the GM behind Ghost Widow commented that Huntsman Rafferty (out of his armor at a Wraith Spiders function) was wearing a similar t-shirt to one they owned. I will always remember having to respond "Yes, I am rather attached to my head" when a guild suggested switching Omnimouse to a non-monstrous cranium would get him in, not to mention the number of times he arrived in missions and got the response "Whoa, you really are a mouse?" Yelling "Let's do this" and "Transform and roll out" prior to leading teams in to rescue the ugliest holiday baby ever will remain a fixture in my unconcious. Having my big red horned guy from another dimension call all the short pink creatures demons. Placing in the finals for a *worst* costume with Rogue Alien Hunter's alien samuari fisherman outfit. My early moments unnerving people with the uncanny resemblance of my original main (Repose) to an eidolon ("I really wish you wouldn't run around the corner like that". Deleting and remaking some characters a dozen times to get just the right power sets. Loosing sleep adjusting an outfit or build, or making color charts of what holiday content each character had done.

All of it precious. All of it mine to keep.

Thank you all so much, devs and players alike, for making this far and away the best MMO I've ever played.

Funny, I logged in for the first time in about a year just a couple of days ago. Timing, eh? Was a paid subscriber since Issue 1 or 2 before that, but I never liked the Marketplace, and I got a girlfriend, and I keep finding more things to do in the real world that tether me out of reach of any game with an ideal time commitment longer than ten minutes.

I wish there were something I could do to help CoX keep going. I don't know what else to say. This news is so deeply saddening to me, because I've always loved the game and these forums (I check them regularly, even during my absences from the game). I hope that everyone can go on to... something?... even bigger and better, now, but I know that the real world ain't like in my hopes.

But I always wanted City of Heroes to be out there, being played by people. Even if I have to grow up and be anchored by responsibilities, there's nothing like the joy of knowing that Neverland is still out there, where dreams take flight.

Dear programmers, writers, artists, QA staff and whoever else worked on this game now or in the past :

Thank you. This game was always a safe haven for me.

I would also like to thank the people on Defiant for being such an awesome bunch.
