To Positron and the devs (even Jack!)

Whatever projects you start working on next, it'd be nice to know. I've been thoroughly impressed by all of you.

I just...

...wow...

...this news just struck me down.

Got a new job, bought a new computer, renewed my subscription on the 12+2 plan with how good CoX has been doing lately, and was looking forward to November when work would finally hit release and I'd have time to play all the new sets and content that had come out.

I just... I'm floored at the suddenness of this all.

To all the devs, every last one of you, past and present, if I ever see you in person I owe you a drink, whatever ya' want. It's the least I can do.

To anyone I played with... let's bring these servers to their KNEES playing so hard until the lights go out!

But for now... I need to go cry a bit.

- Rosetta Kurosawa (ALL servers)
- Clockwork Lifter (most servers)
- Skorost Prototip/скорость прототип (Virtue)

We're at lunch now. I'll post more later but I am sharing your thoughts with the team.

If we still have forum access next week the writers and I will do an "ask us anything" about CoH lore. And we mean ANYTHING lore related. If we not know it we'll make it up on the spot.
Hey, Posi (or Zwill, or anyone really)... can we finally get a photo of the whiteboard of plans and ideas whose off-screen existence you've teased us with for several years now?

I've been here long enough that I should probably make a post on this, and this thread is as good as any other so:

Bummer.

And thanks for the awesome game, Paragon Studios people - hope you all land on your feet.

And I guess thanks to the players too - never really made any long-term friends after the first year here, but had fun playing with y'all anyway.

I've mostly stayed in the background, but I've always enjoyed the communication and friendliness that CoH brought. I've been with CoH from launch, likely one of the many heroes in the background, but I've still been here. The Dev Team both past and present, as well as the community, was unique. Special. I don't think I'll find something like that again.

It hurts to know this is happening.

It all started here before I was anywhere else. I'll miss everything I got to be a part of in this community. The Cape's shows on Virtue, the SCORPIO supergroup, the people I got to meet, War Mace and Energy Aura brutes. (I'm still tickled about the Pretty and Strong badge. That was so cool.)

There is still so much I never got to see in this game. So many ATs never got played. I never completed the Statesman TF. I never got a villain past level 27, when I made Brou on Virtue in 2007.

Even if I wasn't around much this past year, I always came to check things out here. Knowing the light won't be on in a few months and the community will be gone is painful.

I wish I could say "see you all in game x," there are many thousands and even millions of us. I know once the servers shut down, everything will disperse.

Thanks for everything. See you wherever I'll be lucky enough to meet you.

MrPlayskool, a.k.a. Brou.

Thanks All!

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Long gone from these forums, but always close by in my heart....

Thanks. For everything.

This is devastating, I honestly thought CoH would last for twice as long as this. It certainly deserves to on every level I can think of.

Logged back in today after a brief absence, and started flying around AP to take in the sights again. It really hit me when I flew too near City Hall and heard that music. That was music I always associated with the best of CoH, and the optimism and care that went into this amazing game.

Thank you thank you thank you, devs, community, and players for a wonderful MMO.

If this happens, someone had better get it all logged and posted on Paragonwiki. With my luck, I'm sure I'll miss it otherwise.

And Positron, best of luck, and thanks for everything!

Wow, floored that BaBs is TicToc. I remember playing with you now and then on Justice. And occasionally seeing you yell at people on the Justice global channels for getting too far out of line. :P

This is the only MMO that's ever really held my attention long term (and I've been here off and on since I3). Very sorry to see it go. Thanks to all the Devs and associated people for a great game all these years.

City of Heroes has been a lifeline for me during some really rough times over the last 8 years. It's a place to play, unwind, argue with Math Smarties, and have fun. This game is the best of its kind. Good luck, and please post on your blogs, linkedIn pages and elsewhere where you wind up. If you're on the game, I'll know it's quality!

If you don't, drop me an email (contact info in the oog contact thread), and I will get forums set up.

Or, even better, do it here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Cityofheroes/

God. I didn't know which one of the many threads to post in, so I guess this one will do. I've been a frequent player and here since the beginning. Not much of a poster though. So much I never got to do. Hope I can fit it all in before the end.

What a sucker punch.

Thanks to everyone. The devs. The other players. All the great folks on Protector.

And my base was almost what I wanted. And my main was almost where I wanted. And...

How do you say good-bye to something that has been there daily for 8 years?

I'm not talking about the game either, more than playing, I'm going to miss this place, my place. My home away from home. More than anything.

The community. The familiar names and avatars, the memes and the passion.

I'd go for months without logging in to the game, but not a single day passed without checking in here. These boards have been my homepage since 2006...

Ah hell, I'm at a loss for words and choking up.

Farewell my friends.

Been here since beta. I remember getting my wife to try the character creator, and how she went from 'meh' to hooked in about 10 minutes. How our mains, created as a couple, became iconic representations of our commitment to each other.

I think I'll hop on the 'how I feel right now' bandwagon. First open this link:

Here since beta, wish you all the best of luck. Have had an amazing time and spent far too many hours in CoH, but am better for it.

Said this elsewhere already, but thanks to all you devs for your years of great work. It shows in the quality and fun of the game that I played since its release, except for one year (and that was more for financial reasons than anything else). I hope you all find jobs with employers that appreciate you and the product you create more than NCSoft apparently does.

This game has meant a lot to all of us, both in real life and during the countless nights within Paragon City or the Rogue Isles. It deserves a better end than its getting.

I wonder how much we could raise in a Kickstarter fund to keep Paragon Studios (in a different skin of course) working, and allow them to purchase the City Of rights from NCSoft? Perhaps we could draw the attention of another publisher/distributor that could pick up the ball and run with us.

At the very least, Posi et al, fight for the forums to survive till the last days. It would be a token bone thrown to us, but it would be something from NCSoft besides a cold shoulder. The Community was what made this game last as long as it did as much as anything, and still sets us apart from many of our competitors.

This is pretty shocking and unexpected. I mean all the talk about issue 24, the news about tech knight (which I was really looking forward to), everything up until last night appearing to indicate that CoH had a future.

I purchased City of Heroes and activated my account on May 18, 2004. Unfortunately, due to a housemate having an overly aggressive intended-for-business firewall, I couldn't actually play until I moved out of that house on June 1st. I was able to play City at friends' houses, and even got them sold on the game by letting them try on my account. I remember letting friends use the costume creator pn my account to illustrate their characters for a tabletop roleplaying game (Aberrant, for the record).

I still play my first character. Well, only first on a technicality. She's a reroll of my first character, made less than two weeks after the first character. I've taken this character from a level 1 dark/dark scrapper fighting Contaminated in Outbreak to a level 50 Incarnate who's also taken on many signature characters single-handedly. And in that time I remember learning to play without reliable status protection and with armors that excluded each other. Dark Armor today is so different from Dark Armor at launch, and I'm glad I stuck with the character.

On the forum, I was fairly prolific. I commented in a thread that I wondered if there was a title for 10,000 posts as I was very close, and the first person likely to reach that point (although I believe Satanic_Hamster tried to give me a run for my money). CuppaJo PMed me to tell me that when I made 10,000 posts I could name the title - which I did, as "Forum Cartel." A forum joke at the time that someone else could probably explain far better than I could.

Anyway, I haven't been subscribed here without any breaks, although I wish I had been. There were times I couldn't afford it, and there was one time where I was so annoyed with a few people here that I didn't want to come back.

The best times I've had in this game were the first year, the City of Villains beta, the loyalty period prior to the launch of Going Rogue, and the time I've been subscribed since CoH freedom was launched. That last actually kept me here: All the new costume options kept me paying. I purchase all the costumes and I tinker with all of my characters' looks rather frequently.

Losing this game is one thing, too, but losing this community is pretty painful. I know I've been in a lot of arguments with people here, sometimes over things that seemed trivial or over misunderstandings, and sometimes just trying to make a point, and I really can be abrasive at times whether I want to be or not. But I have enjoyed being here when I could be here

I have also appreciated developer involvement over the years. There have been times when the devs have been more open or more quiet, but overall it seems that devs have often been open to some feedback and discussion. Coming back to learn that BAB and Castle were gone since the end of 2010 was a big surprise, as both were pretty open with players. Not to take anything away from anything done after they left.

(Also, I remember arguing with Tic-Toc years ago, but I remember nothing of the details - finding out BAB = Tic-Toc was a big surprise to me. Also, that iTic, iToc, iTank avatar is brilliant).

Anyway, thank you for the only game that could absorb just about any whacked out concept I wanted to throw at it.

This whole post is rambly. I am having a hard time processing my reaction to this. This was not the worst news I had today, but it's the one I have an easiest time trying to deal with right now.

Oh, and I still can't believe iToc was BABs. Talked and argued with him in the Tank forums more than once, and was mesmerized by his avatar (still my favorite of all the avatars on the forums, and there are some good ones!).

Glad to see Castle around as well. Still my two favorite devs, just from talking to them a bit and appreciating their humor. Not that Hawk and Posi and Synapse and the few others in whose threads I participated weren't awesome.

Synapse and Hawk, I was most keen to check out Martial Arts for Blasters. I've been wanting it for years. The video preview of it looked amazing. I'll try to check it out on beta if they still have that going, since there's no point in waiting to enjoy it on Live.

Thanks, everyone. We spent lunch reading the forums and reminiscing. I would like to say that it is a testament to the team that the mood in the office today was celebratory of our successes and camaraderie and not sad or angry.
