Hm. May just check that one out someday then.

If nothing else, owe you for all those Hami raid lessons.

We're at lunch now. I'll post more later but I am sharing your thoughts with the team.

If we still have forum access next week the writers and I will do an "ask us anything" about CoH lore. And we mean ANYTHING lore related. If we not know it we'll make it up on the spot.
Well there is always a blog you have that could help get us info :P

I've been here since the beta, and there's no way I can put everything in writing right now, as I'm simply stunned.

The fact is, there has never been an MMO that has innovated the way City of Heroes has.

Sidekicking so you can play with your high level friends? CoH did it first.

Flying? CoH did it first.

An unparalleled character creation engine with millions of combinations? CoH.

User created content? CoH did it first (I think, if not first, certainly best.)

Those are just a few examples, and it's hard to think of more because many standards that found their way into other games started here.

We're living in an industry where MMOs have become bland and derivative of each other. Everybody seems to be copying WoW as much as possible (hence my dislike for new games) but City of Heroes stood away from the pack.

That's a credit to the people who tirelessly worked on it.

And as someone who was looking at the prospect of being laid off last year (fortunately, I got to stay on), I can empathize with how everyone feels right now. Getting news like that is like getting kneed in the stomach. Repeatedly. By a 300 pound Samoan. I remember going through shock, despair, sadness, anger, (over the course of several weeks) and finally resolve to make the best of the situation. Hopefully everyone at Paragon makes it to Resolve as fast as they can.

If I don't get the chance to say it over the next four months, to everyone who contributed to this game: it was the best in its class. Thank you.

Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!

Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.

Neverwinter Online, you say?

In the past eight years, the developers of CoH have struck me as some of the most open and responsive developers in the business.

NCSoft does not know what it is losing.

Best of luck to you all.

Wow, well I didn't see that one coming. I was really looking forward to issue 24, too, just as I suspect Paragon was looking forward to launching it. What else can be said apart from great job on all that cool stuff? I hope the mystery project is still on track and ends up being even half as refreshing as City of Heroes always has been.

I don't remember if I posted in this thread yet, but let me extend my thanks to you all as well. This game brought so many of my ideas to life, mere words cannot express my gratitude.

So I'll just ask this: Did any of y'all play on Pinnacle incognito? With BABs and Castle showing up here, I'm DYING to know!

@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.

Can't wait.

I started playing on a friend's account within a month of launch, and when I started teaching three months later, my first purchase with my first paycheck was to sub to CoH.

Since then I've made more friends than I can count, produced the radio missions as actual radio broadcasts (recorded, of course), joined the crew of a streaming radio station (w00t), attended three different RL gatherings of folks from the Pinnacle server, and imbibed a lot of alcohol while hanging out in Paragon. Hey, Pinnacle's the drunk server... it's what we do. Did. *sigh*

The folks at Paragon Studios have been... there isn't a word for it. Brilliant, wonderful, genius, caring, considerate, dedicated... heroic. I can't imagine what this is like for you all, and when I try I start crying (again). I consider CoH my home, and losing it feels EXACTLY like one would imagine losing a home feels like.

Thank you, everyone, and know that Radio Free Opportunity will always be on-the-air somewhere. -Mindscythe/Jeff

EvilGeko said everything I'd like to say much more compactly than I can. Developers, while I'm sad about losing my own CoH friends and playtime, my heart truly goes out to you. You do excellent work, and know that you have been profoundly appreciated for it.

I've maintained two accounts from the launch in order to play with my now teenage son.

I've always come back to this game and he has made hundreds of friendships.
This news saddens me and has devasted him.

He'll get over it and move on, but so many thanks to the devs for such a great game and to the community that made it so enjoyable.

I truly wish there was a way to keep it rolling for the fans.

I can only say:
Thank you entire CoH and Paragon Studio Staff, thank you for the best MMO experience i've ever had.

But most of all, thank you for giving us Granite Armor and thank you for making Ghost Widow.

I'm sad and in shock, but...

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone who was involved with creating this game. I've never played an MMO other than this, because this was home.

While the end is hard for us players, know that we appreciate and respect what you've done for us, for this game, and this community.

Good luck!

I know this is brief, but I do not have the words to express how much the last eight years have meant to me. Matt, Chris, Floyd, Melissa, everyone. The product you made and the people I met in it saved my life. Thank you.

I've not been around the game much in a good long while, but I would certainly like to thank everyone at Paragon Studios who made City of Heroes happen. There's lots of good things in the game that people can point to, but in the end, I think it was just that everyone there "got it". They understood what a superhero MMO should be.

Salute, and I truly hope all you land on your feet with good jobs, and I hope to enjoy the fruits of your labor again at some point.

Man. Some of my favorite gaming memories have come from City of Heroes...Ending up on CuppaJo's team during a huge PvP With the Devs event. Calling in obnoxious songs to the CAPE to irritate my friends. Getting into a bidding war with everyone's favorite Paladin on Virtue for the right to run the Baby New Year mission with Ghost Widow (and winning!) during a giant CAPE Holiday Party.

Subsequently asking Ghost Widow why Baby New Year looked like Danny DeVito in a toga, and getting the answer "The universe truly is mysterious" after a very long pause.

I've made so many true, actual friends through this game and I'm going to miss logging in whenever I have some free income. I was even thinking earlier today about a new character idea I had that I was going to make when I got my gaming computer up and running again.

Paragon Studios, you guys were AMAZING and City of Heroes easily had the best dev team and community of any MMO. I've played many, MANY MMOs since CoH got me hooked and I always ended up disappointed in the community and always ended up coming back to Paragon City.

I don't want it to go away. You guys did great.

Polaron, Virtue.
