  1. I've maintained two accounts from the launch in order to play with my now teenage son.

I've always come back to this game and he has made hundreds of friendships.
This news saddens me and has devasted him.

He'll get over it and move on, but so many thanks to the devs for such a great game and to the community that made it so enjoyable.

I truly wish there was a way to keep it rolling for the fans.
  2. Given that you are updating the graphic level, not trying to re-style from a Golden Age to a Modern look or anything like that, then absolutely I favour Option 1.

    That is bizzare advice.
    Especially unsolicited.

We've both been involved in Scouting for 7 years now and go wilderness camping almost monthly.
He's played Soccer and Baseball for 4 years and wants to try out for football this year.

We fish all year around including ice fishing when we can make it out.

We both recently signed up for an Okinawan style of Karate training.

I golf and he's bugging for lessons this summer and to come out and join me.

I think that might be enough non-computer activites for a while.

mindset than the build. In that regard, I'd off these ideas:

1> Talking Smack: Don't start it, and don't get involved with it. Yep, some
folks make it a part of their playstyle, and some of it can actually be fun, but
typically, it's just detrimental, and I'd recommend staying out of it - especially
    for a new pvp'er.

2> Don't sweat kills or deaths. Both will occur with some level of regularity - it's
part of "paying the dues" - There's always some measure of Rock, Paper, Scissors,
and in zones - it's rare to have "even" fights... When "sharks" (Hero and Villain
alike) smell blood - they'll swarm for the kill... Don't let that bug you.

3> Have Fun and Learn... PvP is completely unrelated to PvE - next to nothing
a player learns in PvE matters at all in PvP. The key is to have fun getting
involved in the kills and battles, don't sweat the deaths, and learn the kinds
of things that work well, and the kind that don't. Keep in mind that there are
few (if any) "rules" - Anything you hear to the contrary is wishful thinking.

4> As part of the play - keep an eye on the guys that do well, and try to
emulate those tactical concepts with your own toon where applicable.

GL to the youngster, and Have Fun...

    Regards,

I appreciate the advice, but I'm not a noob to PvP, just CoX PvP

your son's MM is a good start for PvP, it's sturdy in body guard mode and it can provide decent support provided that you stay near him. I recomend making a bind for BG mode if he decides to play that toon. A good complememt to the MM is either a corr (therm or rad) or a dom.

On hero side i suggest rolling the classic blaster empathy combo, where blaster is fire, sonic, rad, or psy with either em or dev and the emp with all necissary buffs and heals along with a good hold in his attack. Also make sure to get phase shift and or hibernate for your pvp toons, it will come in handy. k GLHF.
Virtue is where he and and I are most of the time.
  6. Any advice would be appreciated.

I play CoX with my son and have almost since launch.
At 14 now, he wants more PvP

I enjoy PvP, but I've never put the time or effort into CoX PvP in order to really know what to play or how to build so I'm not sure how to advise him.

    He only has a couple of 50s, a Elec/Elec Blaster and a Necro/Pain MM.

Can anyone suggest some basic PvP builds, pool choices, what should he be looking to get out of slotting etc.?

I give ya'll 2 Thumbs Down in the area of AE!

The mobs are not ridiculously hard unless you choose to make them so. Perhaps you haven't understood how mobs work in AE?

AE mobs function off the same values as players, this makes it very easy to create a mission significantly harder than you might have expected and you'll need to go back and rework it.

Many people are creating fun stuff for their RP toons and it has been very playable. Perhaps you should describe what you're hoping to accomplish and see how others have done it.

    Dev Digest?

Who's in charge of forum administration?
Have they made any official comment on the fate of the Dev Digest?

I'm just finding it odd that a "tool" as well used as the digests have not been repaired/recreated yet. The migration to "improved" boards is well behind us, is there an ETA on this issue or is the concept being deliberately dropped for some reason?
  9. The movie was fun.
It wasn't great, but it was good enough to be fun.

Concerns about canon are ridiculous. The canon you like regarding G.I. Joe already ignored the canon I knew growing up, and I didn't scream back when your little action figures were trampling over my 12" history. Regardless, huge swaths of cartoon canon were stupid and hugely flawed when you attempt to change medium to film.
Snake Eyes had too many backgrounds, Cobra Commander had no background etc.
Like or hate the movie for what they put on the screen, there's plenty to dis if you really want to without pretending there was some great canon that should have been followed.

No one critiqued your build, but my first question would be what are you hoping to do with this build?
Range? ST? AoE? Control? Blapping? Sapping?

My E3 is a Sapper/AoE with light control and I look at your build and see power after power that I would never take, but you might have an entirely different goal.

Lightning Field is much better for that purpose on an Elec/Elec Sapper build. It will keep an entire spawn at zero, not just one random one.

VS doesn't add nearly enough of anything to make it into my build, but it may work for some.
  13. Depending on the selections, MMs can bring Buffs/Debuffs/Heals/Tanking/DPS

It is a very strong AT and the only people that have a reason to shy away from them are those of you with older PCs that lag out in larger conflicts.

MMs have total positional control over minions if they choose to and positioning where your minions are can often dictate which powers they will execute.

In the scenarios the OP describes, better MMs will pause their minions briefly to allow the other AoEs to go off and clean up. Or, they might have enough AoE that the scattering is irrelevant and everything is going down anyways.

If your team's MM is scattering, then just focus on the Bosses/Lts, the MM will wipe the minions scattered or not and still contribute DPS to your targets too.

How would you like it (Smurphy, or any of the other "I'll just leave" folks) if you're playing a board game -- Risk, Monopoly, whatever -- and as soon as it becomes clear who's likely to win, one of the players walks away without a word (whether they're being a smug winner or a sore loser)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd feel the same way I would if I was playing chess and my opponent just quietly laid down his king and walked away.
They are simply admitting the game is over.

Regardless, your analogy is badly false.
If you walk away from a board game, the game is over.
If you leave my team, my game is not over, I can handle it with or without you and you can be replaced if I feel like it. The only thing that is over is our teaming experience. You're free to end that at any time.
  16. I will usually tell you that I'm leaving.

I don't feel obligated to tell anyone why, it's none of your business.
  17. While we don't know yet, I feel that it is a relatively safe speculation that it will be per costume slot, not per character slot as it sounds as though the power customization will be grounded in the costume creator.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Now the big question is what DON'T you take for Lightning Field?

From the Primary, I take everything but Zapp. Secondary consists of everything but Lightning Field, Charged Brawl and Lightning Clap. I take hasten, hover, fly, and the Fitness trinity from the pool powers, and I take all the elec ancillary powers except EM Pulse.

What should one drop to put this in? Now, I'm sure that running a straight blapper, I could probably drop a couple of my range attacks, but getting rid of the Tier 1 and 2 attacks hurts if I get mezzed, dropping Tesla Cage is bad mojo because of its mitigation, and I certainly can't ditch Sparky. Thunderous Blast could go, but that's just so much goodness, as is Ball Lightning for AoE love.

So what power could/should be sacrificed for Lightning Field?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I don't take VS.
My E3 play style is focused on Sapping and AoE. Lightning Field is much superior to VS for those purposes.
  19. I don't think those of you questioning Felcia Devine's soloing are paying attention.
She is OUTLEVELING the mission and then soloing it.
That is doable and an easy way for a dedicated soloer to complete difficult missions.
Of course, it is not a very good way to level, but it's a good method to complete things.

Then you'll note that she thinks doing the cape mission at 20 is hard. Well, ya, because it sounds like she's on an unenhanced character and hasn't outleveled the mission.
  20. I liked to clear the jail room of guards and even sometimes clear the doors if there's a chance we might have to use it.
  21. I'm going to add my voice to the list on a few sets that are popping up all over the thread.

    /Devices - Blaster
    Elec/ - Blaster
    Merc/ - MM

I have played and enjoyed all 3 of these to high levels; I have found ways to play each effectively and to have fun.
Regardless, it was clear to me that these sets each under perform in relation to other sets.

/Devices was effective in an entirely different iteration of CoH. There is no way for /Devices to currently make up for it's lack of a Build Up. The set is filled with "toys" instead of "weapons". Even when you're having fun, it is apparent to the honest /Devices user that others could accomplish whatever you are doing better/faster. This leaves you with a decision to make, if I find /Devices fun, is it fun enough to actually give up effectiveness?? I don't believe that is a question that should have to be answered. Some minor tweaks across /Devices could easily bring it into line. Time Bomb though, that's an abomination.

Elec/ was a set that I was able to eventually make both fun and effective but only by playing to it's singular, late game strength with one of only 2 effective secondaries to choose. I played a Sapper build, but realistically, that is very limiting to the Primary because it is only truly effective in the late game with a mature character and only if you grabbed one of the two Secondaries that allow you to really use this strategy. Elec/'s drain effect needs to be useful with or without the "right" pairing.

Merc/ suffers from just being slightly off in a few places. A trash lvl 18 Power selection that pales in comparison to the must haves from other sets just adds to the unfocused pets that would be greatly helped by a standardized range and by a 3rd Tier One pet that would play his role instead of being the healer that charges in and brawls or is at least the closest to the fight. Why doesn't someone hand this "medic" a gun with longer range but lower damage????
  22. Electric's End Drain has 2 components, you drain the enemy and you absorb some of that into your End.

Given that draining the opponent is an all or nothing affair and that successfully flooring End is potentially overpowered as control if too easy to accomplish on a Damage set; perhaps we could look at the other component?
Boost the End Recovery portion of the secondary effect.
Elec might be more worthwhile on it's own if slotting allowed the set to operate at or near Stamina levels much like a /Regen Scrapper.
  23. All zones are FFA PvP
All citizens are grey targets, all Contacts and NPCs con as various minons, Lts, Bosses, EB, AV/Heroes, GMs etc.
All vehicles and streets articles are destructible as in Mayhem missions.
Recall powers can be slotted to work across zones.
No target cap on AoE powers, if they fit in the area of effect with collision on, then they are effected.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
If this is just a thread to be a thread then I won't put my thoughts into words.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    All threads are threads.
  25. This thread is obviously not serious.
