Status of Voltaic Sentinal

Ok, so my Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster is about 5 years in the making, continuously shelved and unshelved because I love the concept but have no attention span. I'm trying once again for another go and am up to level 30 now.

I'm filling in some spots in my build now and I have to wonder about Voltaic Sentinal now. Still never used it and I've certainly recall the hatred for this power back in the day. So what is the general feel for it nowadays? I'm mostly going the Blapper route and have searched to see some more recent analysis of Voltaic Sentinal without much success. I'd like to hear some input on this, as it is the one major power I'm really on the fence on. Thanks in advance!

Voltaic Sentinel has a number of flaws.

For one, you have to resummon it constantly. This isn't entirely terrible actually, since you get a Defiance bonus from it, which could help with Blapping slightly. The other flaw is that since it's a non-targetable pet, it draws aggro onto you. Since you'll be mingling with mobs, I don't see this being too big of a problem.

The big draw of Voltaic Sentinel, at least to me, is that it basically adds in a free Charged Bolts independently (as in, no endurance/animation costs past the initial summon) amongst your own attacks. If you're looking to nab a bit of extra DPS, as well as something that can help attack should you be mezzed, I'd say go for it.

At least copy over to test and experiment with it.

My experience is with the Defender version, so not a perfect match.

It's good for single tough targets, and it's good if you don't care who you aggro (say, you're inside Force Fields or something.) Other than that, it's kind of unimpressive. It's got no attention span- you'll probably never hit the same guy twice with it unless there is only one guy TO hit. I used to say it has about the offensive power of an Empathy Defender.

On the bright side, the recharge was lowered a couple issues ago so there is no downtime between summons, if you want to keep bringing it out.

It's decent solo, where you only have a small number of targets for it to concentrate on. In groups not so much, as it randomly spreads out damage in a less-useful fashion.

Do Aim and Buildup damage buffs transmit to the Sentinel?
Does it do more damage during the ten second windows for these powers?

The last time I checked was in the lead up to the pet recharge change (I-14 went live in April of this year). At that time Build Up, Aim and Enrages had no effect on Voltaic Sentinel's damage.

HAHA...hey...

:P

Midnight: It's an extra pew. Not really a pew pew, just one pew. It fires readily enough, so it's sort of like a "Sorry you didn't get a third basic attack, have this pet that randomly fires for you instead" sort of thing.

On the major up-side (In my opinion) is that VS can slot some very delicious IO sets :3

It's low maintenance damage. No brainer to me

well i dont know wich thred i saw it in but yes its a nice cuz it gives u a dmg boost.

as in aim/build/volt S/ nuke/ blue/ end drain....back to fight

now using sparky in there gives u another dmg boost and during ur down time is atking still.

but one of the most important things sparky dose for me is keeps the end of an enemy at zero so i ignore who ever hes playing with cuz they cant atk me.

I wanted to try a new blaster, so I made an electric/electric and just got him to 31. I don't have a problem with VS, I actually like it. It just keeps adding damage. One click and you have something that outputs a significant amount of damage over the course of a minute. It works in well into an attack string, especially on teams. A tank goes in to grab aggro, summon VS right into the spawn for a 20% damage boost, maybe supplement it with an Aim or Buildup if they're ready, then send in your AoE. It's not a game-changing power, but it is effective and differentiates the electric blaster from other ones even more.

Lightning Field is much better for that purpose on an Elec/Elec Sapper build. It will keep an entire spawn at zero, not just one random one.

VS doesn't add nearly enough of anything to make it into my build, but it may work for some.
