Advice for a new younger player wanting to try more PvP
Have a VERY thick skin.
Don't be discouraged with criticism.
Most of all, have fun with it and learn.
figure out who hot heals is and make him into your role model.
lol
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
psi son or fire /em blasters on blue side. Doms try fire/ grav/ mind/ /ea /elec or /fire. Work on getting the accolades, in particular +hp and geas/fon and demonic/magus. Make sure the kb protection is solid (41 with acro). ss/sj are the best movement for pvp, and are both pretty much needed. Don't all into the bcast drama some players bring about >.>.
Avoid doing melee toons as much as possible until you have a good grasp on movement.
Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.

and don't listen to any advice from dahjee. It will be bad and wrong and he will want your son to roll something that will just be horribad, causing your son to more than likely never want to PvP again.

There are several AT's/Builds that are playable in PvP.
Apart from various build advice, for a younger player, I'd focus more on the
mindset than the build. In that regard, I'd off these ideas:
1> Talking Smack: Don't start it, and don't get involved with it. Yep, some
folks make it a part of their playstyle, and some of it can actually be fun, but
typically, it's just detrimental, and I'd recommend staying out of it - especially
for a new pvp'er.
2> Don't sweat kills or deaths. Both will occur with some level of regularity - it's
part of "paying the dues" - There's always some measure of Rock, Paper, Scissors,
and in zones - it's rare to have "even" fights... When "sharks" (Hero and Villain
alike) smell blood - they'll swarm for the kill... Don't let that bug you.
3> Have Fun and Learn... PvP is completely unrelated to PvE - next to nothing
a player learns in PvE matters at all in PvP. The key is to have fun getting
involved in the kills and battles, don't sweat the deaths, and learn the kinds
of things that work well, and the kind that don't. Keep in mind that there are
few (if any) "rules" - Anything you hear to the contrary is wishful thinking.
4> As part of the play - keep an eye on the guys that do well, and try to
emulate those tactical concepts with your own toon where applicable.
GL to the youngster, and Have Fun...

I've been rich, and I've been poor. Rich is definitely better.
Light is faster than sound - that's why some people look smart until they speak.
For every seller who leaves the market dirty stinkin' rich,
there's a buyer who leaves the market dirty stinkin' IOed. - Obitus.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I play CoX with my son and have almost since launch. At 14 now, he wants more PvP I enjoy PvP, but I've never put the time or effort into CoX PvP in order to really know what to play or how to build so I'm not sure how to advise him. He only has a couple of 50s, a Elec/Elec Blaster and a Necro/Pain MM. Can anyone suggest some basic PvP builds, pool choices, what should he be looking to get out of slotting etc.? |
your son's MM is a good start for PvP, it's sturdy in body guard mode and it can provide decent support provided that you stay near him. I recomend making a bind for BG mode if he decides to play that toon. A good complememt to the MM is either a corr (therm or rad) or a dom.
On hero side i suggest rolling the classic blaster empathy combo, where blaster is fire, sonic, rad, or psy with either em or dev and the emp with all necissary buffs and heals along with a good hold in his attack. Also make sure to get phase shift and or hibernate for your pvp toons, it will come in handy. k GLHF.

Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

"Aaah, but you have heard of me."

My advice is get your son off video games and into sports or more family activities that don't involve a computer.

Especially unsolicited.
We've both been involved in Scouting for 7 years now and go wilderness camping almost monthly.
He's played Soccer and Baseball for 4 years and wants to try out for football this year.
We fish all year around including ice fishing when we can make it out.
We both recently signed up for an Okinawan style of Karate training.
I golf and he's bugging for lessons this summer and to come out and join me.
I think that might be enough non-computer activites for a while.

If you haven't joined a global channel, you're not really looking for team.
I disagree... while actual physical activities are important, I think that PvP in an MMO is a GOOD thing for kids today(minus the smack talk and other nonsense) because unlike a lot of activities today, there is no "everyone is special and everyone wins". They get to play and lose and learn from that... that is a healthy thing as well.

I hear there's alot of fight clubbers there so try to develope a strategy that can take out meleers fast. damage dealer and a debuffer usually works. for example a therm/rad/cold corr and a stalker/dom/ or another corr, poison MM + corr/brute, psy blaster + rad/therm/cold defender or troller.
|
i remember haunt (rad/cold) and i (fire/cold) switching to cold corrs when the retardo scrapperfests happened in freedom... basically ended it really quick if someone was healing or if we both had trayfulls of green..
Dumb question, but other than the heavy -res ice has, anything else worth noting in the set? Ive been thinking about an /ice corr for a while, its been either a tossup between that and a /rad for my next one.
Any advice would be appreciated.
