  1. Best of luck Posi.

Next MMO though, please: 1 or 2 currencies tops.

Not 47 (influence, infamy, prestige, 3 or 4 different kinds of tokens, tickets, shards, threads, salvage, etc, etc.).

And don't stress so much over powergaming and farming. It happens no matter what.
  2. I am incredibly sad. I played CoH from the very 1st day - I had a burn tank. I didn't even know how OP they were until I learned burn and was like WOAH.

I resubbed to CoX at least 3 or 4 times.

CoX and Anarchy Online are the only two MMOs I came back to after canceling. Only twice for AO.

I will miss this so much. I will miss just knowing my favorite hero is there, waiting to be played.

I seriously hope a staff member is hoarding all the necessary code to "leak" it so people can at least keep the spirit alive somewhere - if even only on their own LAN.

We're at lunch now. I'll post more later but I am sharing your thoughts with the team.

If we still have forum access next week the writers and I will do an "ask us anything" about CoH lore. And we mean ANYTHING lore related. If we not know it we'll make it up on the spot.
    Can't wait.
  4. The article you are quoting was written May 22, 2009. The Feb 2011 date is because the writer fixed a typo back in February and did an edit/republish.

I know this because I am the Managing Editor of the Gaming section on Bright Hub.

It was pretty cool to see one of our articles quoted here though.

As long as I'm mentioning that, I should note that Bright Hub is one of the top 200 most popular sites in the US, and the gaming section alone does nearly 4 million views per month.

If anyone reading this has freelance writing skills or experience, drop me a PM. We are always looking to hire more writers. They pay is good too.

EDIT: In order to prevent any future confusion from that article, I added a "NOTE" with a date stamp for the numbers in that section.

  7. I am new to AE and I've browsed the forum a bit and done some preliminary experimentation.

To start off, I want to make a really basic map with just some large, tightly clustered mobs. I guess its your basic farm map, but the goal is to eventually do more.

The map I'd really like to use is the really simple rectangular "city" map that is common in a lot of Unai Kemen's arc missions. You basically go up one side killing mobs, turn, then go back down the other side. It doesn't have a lot of obstructions so its really simple.

I couldn't find this map in the editor. Does anyone know what map this is, or how I unlock it if need be?

    ALSO:

Is there a listing/database somewhere of the different mob groups you can use? I really hate CC (crowd control), so I want to try and stick to mob groups with as little of that as possible. The Infernal Demons (sometimes they are Praetorians in Harvey Maylor's arc) are a good example of this. Are there others like this?

Finally: In my own custom missions that aren't dev choice or anything like that, what is the reward penalty? Is it full xp but just less INF? What about recipe drops?

    Thanks,

    Current Dev Build:
Alpha Slot works. The UI sucks and it doesn't save/import/export yet, but it works.

Once the UI is replaced and we get save/import/export working (within the next few days, likely), it'll go into QA.

Are you ever going to want to willingly shift down to say a Common Alpha once you have a Very Rare crafted? I didn't think so...
    Exactly.

If the level shift actually nerfs rewards, then you can declare this system a failure. It would mean level shifted incarnates shouldn't even bother teaming with "normal level 50s" because to do so would mean no rewards or crappy rewards.

That would be a horrible way to segregate your population.

This is no different than uber raid gear making level 60, 70, 80, or 85 level players in WoW able to roll over non-heroic dungeon mobs. The gear makes you the equivalent of many levels higher, but you still get the same rewards. It is part of what is fun about earning that gear in the first place.
  10. The excessive amount of CC/status effects in CoX is still one of the big things that plagues it. It is this flaw that causes such a huge percentage of people to play scrappers and brutes when they'd love to play more blasters and other ATs.

It is also why the -KB IOs are so incredibly popular. If there were -stun, -hold, etc. IOs you'd see people flock to them as well. I'd happily sacrifice slots to be able to have even so-so mez protection.

I completely miss out on a huge percentage of the game (about 2/3rds of the ATs) because having to suffer status effects/CC is so miserable. I'd love to play more blasters, a dominator, mastermind, defenders, another corruptor, and some controllers, but I just can't make myself do it. Playing those ATs means any time I am soloing it is absolutely miserable, and even in groups it can be a pain.

That's one of my personal rants I've had about the game since the beginning. Way too much CC.
  11. Is there not some way to simple drop/abandon old story arcs?
  12. Does this one stack with the steadfast protection +3% def all?

So in other words, using both, you get +6% defense to all?

    If so, wow. That's sweet.

Agreed. And while you are totally right that through various options and character slots we have a lot of storage, to utilize it all has two problems:

    1) Intensely frustrating and not enjoyable micromanagement.

    2) It is not shared. As you note, it is better for community for people to make more use of shared, base storage that enhances community and makes SuperGroups feel more useful and interesting.

  18. Forbin: LOL. You are a piece of work man. You didn't read a thing I wrote, and to the extent you skimmed, you grossly misunderstood. But hey, don't let the facts slow ya down, bro!

I'm not even advocating server merging per se. But you'd have to slow down and read what you are replying to in order to know that.

That's great that population is better than it has been in a while. I imagine this is partially the same factors that lured me to resubscribe, convince my wife to resub, and then recruit 2 friends. So yeah, that's encouraging.

But I don't think you fully understand how hard it is on a low pop server like Triumph.

But the thing is, it only really matters for TFs, and TFs matter more than ever with the great incarnate system. This means they have a whole lot of different solutions available to them. Server clustering, global TF teams, etc.

I'd love for that to be true. I *hope* that's true.

But I can't help but observe that almost every night for the past 2 weeks, this issue came up on TW 2.0 and it was universally agreed (and bemoaned) that Triumph has a serious pop. problem and TFs are nearly impossible to get going off-prime time.

I'm sure that would help. But you also need enough people for there to be critical mass as far as interest at a given time. I mean there are times I'm on late night but because of work there's no way I could commit to a TF.

East coast. I just play really (and work) really late.

During the week, my personal prime time is about 1am to 4am. But that's not set in stone because I'm often working also. But if I'm on and you're starting a TF, give me a yell.

    Thanks,

If only that were the case.

How about you move a level 50 over to Triumph and start some TFs at 3 or 4am in the morning. Then tell me its not desolate.

Because I already know what they are, as Cat just confirmed.

But hey, its easier to attack the person rather than address the elephant in the room (serious population problems on the low pop servers off prime), right? It also makes you look cool with the in crowd on the forums, eh? Win-win!

    No, it's not name recognition.
Look. Either you are lying, or your experience is completely different than the entire server channel for Triumph.

    I'm just sayin'.

Hypocrisy much? You just obsessed over posts I made 3+ years ago instead of discussing the issue here. LOL.

Aside from that, its funny to watch your mental gymnastics that try to completely whitewash a serious issue. But hey, if you only want what is bad for the game, that's on you bro.

They are all great resources. My wife and I were able to get on during prime time last night and got to run our first ITF with some HUBbers (it was a blast). Prime time is ok. Its off prime time that Triumph just slows to a crawl.

I'm not saying I have the answers, and I'm not saying free server transfers are the answer. I just wish there was some open discussion about this issue taking place with the devs. If they acknowledged it, that would be a good first step. Then perhaps there's be a groundswell for some of this "globalization" they talked about years ago.
