To play out leveled Story arcs go to Ouroboros. Which will let you use the Flashback system.

Just a quick explanation on how to actually get to Ouroboros.
First, you need to be level 25. Second, you must have participated in some form of time travel. For example, if you run the villain arc "Echo down the Aeons" from Marshal Brass, you will unlock the Ouroboros portal. Similarly, Heroes can run "A Faultline in the Sands of Time" from Agent G to get it. It's also tied to certain badges, most notably badges from Recluses Victory.
Alternatively, if you're level 25 and you missed both of those arcs and don't feel like going to Recluse's Victory, you can ask someone to drop an Ouroboros portal for you. There's an Exploration Badge in the Ouroboros zone that unlocks the portal for you.

Is there not some way to simple drop/abandon old story arcs?

When I left you just had to clear all your missions and then go back and talk to the person that started the story arc missed to get the low level mission/arc. How do you do it now? (For example, you could stop Stephanie Peebles' L20-24 arc somewhere in the middle and come back at level 40 to finish it, and everything would be grey. My Arch/NRG Blaster stopped to do tips and stuff at level 22 and came back last night at 25 to finish it and the missions are L24, so lots of blues and whites, with a couple of greens here and there)
If you haven't started the story arc(s) from a contact and you've outleveled them, then you're stuck with doing them through the Crystal of Fire and Ice in Ouroboros or your Super Group's base (if they have it).

I have seen threads here where someone switched sides but then could not get new contacts/story arcs because they left open arcs back on the other side. AFAIK, they had to go back to finish them out (switching back).
