To Positron and the devs (even Jack!)
To all the devs: Thank you. You had passion. You had vision. You made this game more than a grindfest, unlike its "peers" in the MMORPG arena.
We were heroes. We were villains. We were vigilantes and rogues. Whether we stayed true to the blue or the red, or went between, one thing is certain:
We were here.
Paragon City and the Rogue Isles (and points in-between) were not just ones and zeroes. They are the product of hard work and passion, and they are memories that no server wipe can touch.
We endured bad PUGs, ED, griefers galore and the like. We slogged through "defeat all" missions and maps with elusive glowies.
We were rewarded with awesome powersets, a character customization feature that sets the high bar, content that didn't rest on its laurels and devs that played it straight with the community.
I got into this game because of my friends. I have commissioned artwork from really great artists based on this game. I watched my main character go from containing Contaminated thugs to taking down a force of pure evil and despair.
You devs made it happen. You made my character feel like a hero, not a puppet.
Thank you, and good hunting to you all! (This was my favorite catchphrase on Infinity.)

I can vouch for that really being Chris (BAB) and Floyd (Castle).
We're at lunch now. I'll post more later but I am sharing your thoughts with the team. If we still have forum access next week the writers and I will do an "ask us anything" about CoH lore. And we mean ANYTHING lore related. If we not know it we'll make it up on the spot. |
Yeah, as the lights goes out I´m getting kinky like that....
EDIT:
And P.S. I´ll take the chance here, as I can´t put myself to seeing everybody saying good-bye now, and say... THANK YOU to all the devs and former devs (to me, all you Red Names are "devs"...) for bringing this world to live. It´s not just a game, really, it´s much more...

Turns out this was a major dumb*** attack on my part: I had the keyboard plugged into the mouse port. You may mock me now.

Au revoir Venture. We rarely completely agreed, we rarely completely disagreed, but mostly we rarely completely agreed. But you were always inciteful. Oh, wait, insightful is what I'm sure I meant. I never felt like some of my brain cells ran away after reading your posts, and you were never boring. I can't say that about just anyone.
However etymologically incorrect, no matter what happens a part of me will always think of you when I see this:
And then I will see if there's anyone on my lawn I can chase away with a stick.

You don't need me to tell you - the world you created is unique and wonderful.
It was worth every penny I spent on it and every moment I spent in it.
Thank you.
Who to thank?
Devs that made me a game that allowed me to make a gazillion alts without them feeling the same.
Devs that made me a game where I as a level 6 could play with a friend at level 39, and vice versa.
The community, where quite a few pugs lasted for an evening, not as in other games where you solo until you hit something you can't take out then split as soon as you are done. Everyone was always friendly, and I almost never heard trash talk.
Last Line of defence and 1AT groups that has been my home in game, the people that was just fun to play with for an evening, and the people that became RL friends and I hope I never lose contact with.
Hugs to you all!

I know I will see you again on another game somewhere - one game can't hold all us crazies forever.

The sheer amount of costumes, power combinations (as well as colors), a place for your own backstory (why don't other games have this?), and the game's lore didn't lock down players into the game's story, but allowed the player to make their own story, their own character, with the official game being the background to it all.
A sense of ownership for your character, not in the legal sense, but in the personal sense, is why I kept coming back to play, even after playing so many other MMOs. Global chat keeping everybody in touch, regardless of the server they're on, this helped build an ingame community. And this is what will be missed. |
Edit: My signature reminds me, now we won't get our 1200-Month vet reward! D:

"The vet reward for 1200 months of play is we move the servers into your house." - BackAlleyBrawler
Thank you, Cuppa. Thank you, BaB.
Thank you everyone.

Wait?! What?! BABs was Tic-Toc?! I remember arguments with him from way back! My mind has been blown twice today

I was playing european forums when Tic Toc was about and in a sea of threads on the US forums he was the one guy I agreed with. So whatever you was arguing about you were wrong

I'd like to thank the Devs past and present for making this the best MMO I'll ever play.
Even though I do play CO..
Having said that I think CO is getting better. I have always been a Jack Emmert fan throughout thick and thin. My soon to be deleted post history would vouch for that. I think the work has been wonderful, the direction this game has gone in <3 . The lessons and experience to take forward priceless.

and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
I was just in the process of returning to the game after my summer break, and found this out. My account cannot be renewed for the final few months, but I'll play with what characters I can until the very end.
This game has been one of the best MMOs, and I should know, I've tried WOW, EQ, EQII, Star Trek Online, and just now Champions Online. None of these compare to the customization, the story, the characters, and the community of this game.
I don't want to say goodbye. I don't want to go.
If EQ can survive... THIS game should survive as well.
Somehow.

I had a lot of fun, and got into a lot of trouble for my forum antics. I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did.
If not, kiss my ***. |
Trouble or no, I do hope that's a habit you kept when you moved on to Cryptic.

They were crazy appreciated. And I realize how much business professionals hate when their employees do it, but it was great that your posts were always so candid. You always knew where good ol' BABs stood in a debate.

City of Heroes has been a lifeline for me during some really rough times over the last 8 years. It's a place to play, unwind, argue with Math Smarties, and have fun. This game is the best of its kind. Good luck, and please post on your blogs, linkedIn pages and elsewhere where you wind up. If you're on the game, I'll know it's quality!
Also, don't let the clowns (pun intended) at NCsoft get you down.
You all deserve better.
I just want to say thank you again for bringing us a brilliant game, a lot of fun, a wonderful world and place that we could call our 'home'. A place we always look forward to going to. A masterpiece.
I hope to find you all again someday should you work on a new venture.
Again I thank you a million times. <3
