  1. Who to thank?

Devs that made me a game that allowed me to make a gazillion alts without them feeling the same.
Devs that made me a game where I as a level 6 could play with a friend at level 39, and vice versa.
The community, where quite a few pugs lasted for an evening, not as in other games where you solo until you hit something you can't take out then split as soon as you are done. Everyone was always friendly, and I almost never heard trash talk.
Last Line of defence and 1AT groups that has been my home in game, the people that was just fun to play with for an evening, and the people that became RL friends and I hope I never lose contact with.

    Hugs to you all!

I agree, I have more beer and I am sure Eric has more popcorn. Thanks for a fun month!
*Pop the caps of the last two bottles in the case and hand one to Eric*
  3. :: Steals half of Eric's popcorn, and hands him a beer as apology ::
  4. I have no intention to quit the game, I've been on the EU servers since they opened (except for a few days when my credit card was lost and locked just as the payment was due). I was talking about not playing, not about quitting.

Some people have provided help to overcome the difficulties, the /r and Friends channel specifically. Thank you for that, it might help but I doubt it will be enough.

The people that wanted to moan at me, I hope you enjoyed doing it so at least someone got some enjoyment out of it.

I will not post any more in this thread, I doubt I'll even read it since the thread instead of being about helping my friend enjoy her visit in Paragon city has been about my answer when I got upset about being told off.

I hope that if we meet, it will be under better circumstances like beating villains to pulp.

Edit: For those people that suggested payment options, the thought was good but she was here to try the game because I wanted to show it to her not because she wanted to be here so her motivation to fork up monies is/was very limited. I'm sure that if she had enjoyed the experience she would have paid to enjoy more of it, but now I doubt that will happen.
  5. Yes I knew all those restrictions, I just assumed, yes assumed not read every sodding patch note that when the game went Free to play, you could play the game with some restrictions on ATs, zones maybe, and other little things.

For me I would rather have my friend restricted to low level areas and being able to communicate with me and my friends than being able to go lots of places but not being able to communicate with us. For me communicating is the most basic part of the game, it's why I tried to bring a friend here.

I tried to get a new player into the game, I am sorry to have bothered the almighty forum gurus that only seem to be interested in telling me "You should have known that" and "If she doesn't pay she can do without" , with one exception the Friends channel I missed that, thank you.

I think I shall skip City of for a week or six, if this is the attitude we have to getting friends into the social parts of the game.

Edit: I started this, in this part of the forum to indicate why my friend probably won't join us in Paragon city hoping that I could get help to overcome the obstacles and get a new member. Instead I'm feel like I'm told off, when I try to get a friend into a game so that we can play together when it went free to play.
  6. I conviced a friend of mine to try my favorite MMO, still is after all these years, but it wasn't all that much fun.

She couldn't send tells to me, even after I added her as a friend and she added me (both server and global).

    She couldn't join my supergroup.

She couldn't join the user created channel I mostly use, when I invited her.

When we couldn't set up communication lines we went back to playing World of Tanks, I doubt she'll try again anytime soon.

How am I to convince her that this is a beautiful game with social people, when she's not allowed to communicate with them? I understand that having the possibility to send tells to random people might be restricted, but not to be able to send tells to global friends or to accept invites to supergroups and user channels removes so much of the experience that I'll doubt that I can convince her to join up again.
  7. Edit: My hard drive crashed the very next day, so nevermind this, it's most probable totally unrelated.

Not sure if this is related, but I had a number of crashes today and since Eski pointed me to this thread (for his problems). I thought I should mention it.

When right clicked my the city of Heroes process in the Rescource manager (you find it under Preformance in the task manager) and selected "Analyze wait chain" there was always at least two threads (on the same pid) waiting when there was trouble, and none all other times.

Memory for the process seemed to stay steady at about 1.3GB, and the memory use for the comp stayed below three (out of eight).

Also as soon as I got a "Lost connection to map server" the dead lock disapreared. Not sure what was cause and what was effect, or if it was a coincidence though.

I will try and make debug logs, and send them on later if it reoccures but thought I should mention this while I still remembered.
  8. Thanks, at least some people seem to think that it can be made fun to play in a team. I will look again at my first toon, to see if I can make her fun to play again.
  9. For those that say an apology need not be followed by action to be an apology, it's true but only if I believe that you meant it. If you spill a cup of coffee on me, say "Sorry" turn your back and walk away I would not believe you, ergo it would be empty words. If you stayed, said "Sorry, can I get you some napkins or something" I probably would and I would accept it since we all know that accidents happen. Since my feelings toward NCSoft is currently a bit on the bad side, "We're really sorry, we feel for you" feels a lot more like "Sorry" and turn your back, than a true apology.

Given the above, and since we all think we're the centre of the universe I assume that there are more people that feel like me. Hence a little something that shows that they care would make it much more probable that I would believe that they meant the apology.
  10. I have a 50, Black Light that is Electricity / Devices that I need help with. How do you get it to be fun to play in a team? Trip mine and Time bomb both feel useless, somewhere about level 35 when the teamnever needs to stop. Gun drone is too recharge intensive to feel useful, especially if you try and keep Voltaic Sentinel in the air at the same time. Is the Taser worth taking? I never thought so but I'm willing to listen if someone can give me some advice.
  11. Give us something, the unique badge "Name dropper" for example. That would improve the mood for those of us that lost our global. Almost anything would do, but to get something that show us that the developers and red names actually cared, and I do not mean words like "We are so sorry", which are empty unless followed some kind of action.

Other suggestions would be a pretty temp power, a GM access token (usable once) for when you do a petition, an in game coloured title, an exclusive event.

I do not think anything will come of this, but it would be nice to be able to think back at this thing with any emotion but sadness.

    @BL (previously @Black Light)
  12. Have anyone seen the influx of all these new cool Americans that will flood our servers and fill them with them with life?
  13. I was previously warned that the NVIDIA 4xx and 5xx was loud, but I don't really know, which might or might not be an issue for you.
  14. I used to be @Black Light, and for my alt account @White Knight, the globals are now @BL and @Rozbo (will be changed as soon as find a good name for my alt account).

I hope I will get into mood to play City of, but after five minutes yesterday all I felt was sadness so I left. Have fun folks, hope to see you soon.

    What wedding?

Truthfully I had no clue until the day before when SG-mates from UK talked about it as I should have known
  16. If this is going through as previously stated, I think most of us that will lose our globals would have a much easier time if someone actually gave us the facts they based the decisions on. Who knows we might even agree that it's the best solution, even if it will hurt us personally. This far we have only been given hand waves and general statments, which makes it hard to belive that the powers that be have given it much more thought than how to do damage control without telling outright lies. I do not blame any of the community reps, your probably have limits on what you're allowed to tell people. I'm just suggesting that if people knew why the decision was made, it might make them accept it better.
  17. Just after the game had gone live in EU, me and a PUG was doing Atta in Hollows we got stuck and I wondered why we didn't ask our SGs. Flea came from LLoD and we were all in awe. He was over level 20 and had a cape!

The level 50 ding missions, when you held off your ding so your friends could be there, when you got into the mission you left the team and started new teams inside the mission.

Playing taxi in Hollows and broadcasting "Level 50 with recall friend, send tell before invite"

Sitting at a roof top in IP talking to a friend, when she told me she was leaving the game and I cried.

The Jets, the all Energy/Energy Blaster team within LLoD with the same outfits, and not speaking to anyone. I think I still have Jet 6 left somewhere.

My first Hami raid, and the Blaster with Hold outfit.

Going to UK and meeting people I've only met online. Thinking that Bridger should be bigger, he was just like any other bloke.
  18. Ok, given that I OP and feel less stressed than I did when I did the original post I want to clarify a couple of points.

    1) I know there will be people upset about loosing globals, I am one of them (and if someone can contact the US @Black Light and @White Knight and ask them to contact me on the forum, it would be fun to compare notes :P), but my real upset is that I will loose for no other reason that I'm playing on the EU servers. I thought I made that clear, but obviously my writing skill is lacking since so many seem to assume that it's just my names I'm upset about. I am upset about that the entier population on the EU servers gets shafted, for no other reason than they are on the EU servers.

    2) I assumed this was a merge of server lists, not a EU gets access to NA servers, so why do so many NA players assume that I/we will come to you, why don't you come to us? I don't use both English speaking servers I have access to, so I why would I want to do more than a bit of touristing on the American servers?

Give me a tell when you create your first alt on Union Lisa and I'll make a new alt and level pact you, and introduce you to all the nice people I know, and give you those welcoming hugs. I'll do that for you, just because you seem friendly. Forum text really suck at conveying sentiment, I just read it and it seem a bit sarcastic, but it's really just friendliness towards someone that seem friendly.

If you can think of a way that would result in less of an impact than that I'm sure the Devs would love to hear how to do it. *shrugs*
Oh yes it minimizes the number of people involved, it's the same minimized number as on every collision there would be a US prepended to the US global. I have now given a solution that gives exactly the same impact, aren't you proud of me? Unless of course we count impact we count number of hours played, or months we have subscribed, then we have to consider it case to case and then we would lessen the impact compared to now. I have now told you of a way that would result in less of an impact, do you really think the devs will love to hear that I have figured out a way to do it?

I don't think you have any idea how fast the good names got snatched up in the first year. Names as obviously appealing as those were probably gone in the first 3 months.
I wouldn't mind if the compared the number of active months on that account and put EU_ in front of mine, or depending on US_ in front of his depending on who has the least amount of months, or roll a die for all I care. It's the "hey we don't care about you" I am against.

So since you don't care I assume you will change your name to US_<whatever> to save the poor EU bloke that has the same global name as you?
  21. Todays announcement told me that I probably has three to five months left of playing City of Heroes since the odds that @Black Light and @White Knight isn't in use anywhere on the US servers are in use feels slim to me.

I wouldn't mind loosing the right to the name, if I had had a chance of keeping them, but being told you a second class citizen, we don't care about you since US is the bigger market probably will make me quit. Admittedly I wasn't online for the first year, I didn't join until EU Beta but I've had an active account since then, and now being told that me and my name isn't worth anything since I'm not on the US servers feel bloody rotten.

I'm sure there will be good things about the merger, but for me it might be the end since I wasn't even given a chance, I was just told YOU LOOSE!
  22. I haven't read this thread in a week or two so I missed lots of people that managed the MoLGTF. Congratulations to you all!

Doing it in 34 minutes, and doing it with a four man team. I feel so useless now. *grin*
Gratz to you all, for making sure the rest of us will have something to strive for.
  23. Congratulations Soul!

  24. There is one non-binary function for End Drain that would make it useful indeed, make the +Recovery worth the bonus. That way some people that always take the Fitness pool to get Stamina might drop it, and get three fun powers instead.

For this to work, each End Modification must generate at least as much bonus to recovery as an End Reduction would reduce the cost. Then having the end drain to the enemy as a bonus.
