Now I will probably get shot down for this for not having the quote (I am such an idiot for not having my chat log switched on!) - hopefully one of the other EU players will be able to help me - but something I think Castle said about Electric Control on the EU test server last night was that half the powers are completely different to any other control set.

For me that got me quite excited

Not to be a debbiedowner, but if "half" is 4 of 9 then "half the powers are completely different from other sets" is true of pretty much every control set.

You are right there but although I was looking forward to Electric Control anyhow the pessimist in me was thinking that it wouldn't be that original and would be using clones of existing powers.

-1 of those unique powers will likely be an aoe sleep
-Another will likely be a heavy sapping click power w/ secondary effects
-Another could conceivably be a modified version of blaster lightning field, so large aoe damage aura, end drain, and probably have a chance to sleep/stun added.

I doubt we are going to see another set as unique as illusion myself, but here's hoping the set is indeed more "unique" than I've listed (not that what I just drew up would be bad at all, it would perform very well).

I wouldn't call those "completely different to any other control set." AoE sleeps abound, and the latter ability seems similar to Hot Feet.

I'm curious as to what they are going to do that will be so different, myself, and whether it will be different enough to distract me from the Kinetic Melee set.

I'd like a tweaked version of Lightning Rod; for a control power version, I'd make it so it does minor damage, knockdown and stun when you teleport in, instead of being a damage power. That would certainly be different for a control set; almost an inverted Wormhole.

If Shield charge is any indication it may well be a new controller power that does more damage than a blaster nuke...

My original thoughts were definitely thinking an AoE sleep but like you say Tenzhi says that is just like the powers in Ice and Earth

I wonder if they are going to play up the end drain effects of electric as a form of soft control. Like, maybe powers that reduce the max end of targets or increase the amount of end it costs for enemies to use powers.

Or maybe something like chain lightning, but with a hold that jumps from enemy to enemy.

I hope not. I hate all my experiences with End Drain being weak everywhere else in the game.

I think sapping works fine as an additional form of mitigation with power sink on my elec tank, but on a Controller, I'm much more suspicious. With Containment and without real defenses, a Controller wants to, you know, control stuff, rather than get some soft mitigation, with which he will still die, at least solo.

I imagine a very different scenario in my mind. Controller holds, drains, then bottoms out the enemy's recovery. So when your controls finally give out, the mobs are still left unable to retaliate. Perhaps I'm being over optimistic.

At any rate, I would guess/hope that it would be a set somewhat like Ice in that it has some difficulty with the initial aggro, but once it's effects are in place will provide very solid control.

While I would honestly love to see the Tesla Cages graphic, the power itself is too weak for a Controller. Shocking Bolt is probably closer to the actual attributes.

That's probably obvious, though.

Well it is the "unique powers" that really make the set imo. I mean earth and fire control are actually pretty functionally similar, but they each have a few unique aspects that really differentiate the experience with them.

It just so happens those are my two favorite control sets by a sizable margin so if elec has similar foundation powers to them and differentiates through the unique powers it could be a very good fit for me. I'd love to see another sets as aberrant as illusion though, playing it is unlike anything else in the game. But that could be satisfied by an unaltered port of illusions to doms (or nearly unaltered, one of the invisibility powers could be altered).

On my mind/kin, I loved the sleep power. It allowed me solo with ease. On large teams, it allowed me to put nearby spawns asleep to manage aggro when the tank and scrappers had too much. It also didnt cause aggro.

Putting an entire spawn to sleep, and having the group get in there for a full fulcrum shift is also nice. Really helps if blasters are on the team and no tanks or scrappers.

Sleeps are useful. Just not as useful as a stun or hold for most.

Most electric attacks in this game have sleep as a secondary it seems, so I pretty much expect a sleep to be in the set somewhere.

I cant wait for the set... I have had the name since issue 3. It has been recycled a couple of times, but it is now held for an elec control/storm controller. Though, an elec/kin will probably be FOTM for sapping.
