Electricity / Devices

I have a 50, Black Light that is Electricity / Devices that I need help with. How do you get it to be fun to play in a team? Trip mine and Time bomb both feel useless, somewhere about level 35 when the teamnever needs to stop. Gun drone is too recharge intensive to feel useful, especially if you try and keep Voltaic Sentinel in the air at the same time. Is the Taser worth taking? I never thought so but I'm willing to listen if someone can give me some advice.

Post a build.. Express a concept of what your trying to achieve..

Do you understand what defenses are ?

http://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011...important.html

Primaries are pretty much the same in a sense.

Go range defense cap, take hover and skip Trip mine and Time bomb. Keep Gun drone for the buff it offers when it is out.

The retrofitting thread is good because it has tons of builds and you just download them and switch AR with Electric and fix what is missing.
Personally if you have or can get Cardiac Incarnate to T4 I would just simply go my build posted in the ar retro thread. I have ZERO complaints about it and it gave life to my old dusty AR Device. It really is that cool and fun.

I agree about skipping Time Bomb, but you should keep Trip Mine.

You can slot 4 Eradication in it and get a little bit of ranged defense and some HP if you want to cap it.

The mines and gun drone are less useful as pets than they are as buffs when teaming. Time bomb, for example, will buff your damage by about 53% for more than fifteen seconds at a time. Lay one down before hitting aim and your nuke is going to hit a whole lot harder. Same goes for trip mines and gun drones. Slot them for recharge (and perhaps a force feedback proc) and use them as a build up. Any damage or alpha negating they do is nice, but secondary. Gun Drone is also another place where you grab another four slot 6.25% recharge set bonus with a recharge intensive pet set.

Cloaking Device helps a lot with this as it lets you get close to a spawn and lay a mine while the tank charges in to grab agro. Devices is also one of the few sets that will allow you to stealth past snipers, rikti drones, etc. Toss a smoke grenade at the spawn and they won't see you slip by whether they can ignore stealth or not.

On taser, it is a very situational power. A set like electric blast where you can slot cheap energy manipulator procs into pretty much every attack, a guarenteed mag 3 stun can help keep a mob staggered. It's also useful for holding a Stupefy set and if you're interested in purples for 10% recharge bonuses, Absolute Amazement is among the cheaper ones.

Taser is awesome if you have either Sonic Blast as your primary or Sleep Grenade.

Put the spawn to sleep, wake them up one at a time with a stun, kill the stunned one, repeat. I've gone entire missions without so much as ever being attacked, let alone killed using that technique.

Sonic is probably the best primary for /Dev for many reasons but that one is up there, yeah.

Also works well with AR's Beanbag round to keep bosses stunned. Stacked while the target is webbed on an ignite patch and you had boss flambe in short order. Well, maybe not since I heard they nerfed Ignite awhile back for that very reason

Will have to agree to shoot for ranged defense, hover, and some recharge. It's what I did with my arch/dev - though I only managed to get 43% while cloaking device is suppressed. I still rarely get hit, however.

You can skip time bomb, though it is fun to run ahead of the team while stealth-capped and use it so that it goes BOOM once the team arrives.

Keep trip mine. You can use it while hovering if you get as close to the ground as possible (same with gun drone).

Even if you don't intend to make use of gun drone, if you can get the slots for it, you can get a nice +range def bonus from Expedient Reinforcement.

They only nerfed the recharge on Ignite, it still does the same amount of damage.

Thanks, at least some people seem to think that it can be made fun to play in a team. I will look again at my first toon, to see if I can make her fun to play again.

What others have said.

And I don't build a blaster for defense, but recharge, and always go Fire epic for RotP. It's up in, I think 3 minutes, and I don't die nearly that often. Heck, there are endurance recovery powers that recharge slower.

The caltrops with the two procs and then Reactive Interface will be serious cruelty. You can take hover, CJ, Cloak, and Maneuvers and Vengeance and you'll get your 5 LotG +rech in. Obviously you can get in all five 6.25s in your attacks. You're at the point of diminishing returns there, but Char can get you some Basilisks for another 7.5, etc etc.

Range, you have to get some melee going. If you're a hover-blaster, why would you get melee powers? If you want to be a blapper, roll a dominator.

Throw the fly stealth in hover. And, uh, I think that's about all I can ramble right now.
