This is devastating, I honestly thought CoH would last for twice as long as this. It certainly deserves to on every level I can think of.
Logged back in today after a brief absence, and started flying around AP to take in the sights again. It really hit me when I flew too near City Hall and heard that music. That was music I always associated with the best of CoH, and the optimism and care that went into this amazing game.
Thank you thank you thank you, devs, community, and players for a wonderful MMO. -
Trials are the reason why I'm still subscribed right now. I assumed I wouldn't like them, as I have an aversion to serious large group content in other MMOs, but once I actually tried them I found them a lot of fun.
I mainly play trials on Defiant, and frankly I think that may be the difference between the fun I'm having and the problems others seem to be experiencing. While small servers have their problems, they have their benefits too.
I enjoy the fact that I can log in and know that someone will be starting trials soon. While my server's not busy enough for trials 24/7, they do start regularly at about 8 - 8:30 UK time most nights, which is perfect for me.
I enjoy the fact that I'm teaming regularly with a large number of other players. I was mainly a solo player before, and my global friends list has exploded since I started doing trials.
I like the fact that, since I'm on a small server, we're running PUGs that will take ANY player, but a large number of the players I do see are regulars I know I can depend upon. I'm also proud that my server is full of people who are willing to explain the process of doing each trial to anyone who needs clarification.
I love the fact that I'm doing a nice variety of trials - UG, TPN and Keyes as least as often if not more often than BAF and Lambda now. It's much less samey now.
I love how I'm able to progress my character with new powers, and I can't wait for more to open up.
I really like it when a new trial opens up for the first time and we need to figure out how to beat it, that's a lot of fun for me.
I get the feeling that by playing on a smaller server, I'm avoiding the majority of the non-listeners, non-thinkers, and brats who seem to make trials a problem on large servers. Given how much fun I'm having working my characters through them (on fifth and sixth ones now) I could not be happier. -
Clarification, the Defiant Events channel is now called "Defiant Events EU"
-
The old EU servers were...
Union (busier, unofficially an RP server, though if RP is what you're after Virtue is even bigger)
Defiant (quieter, but still nice community)
Vigilance (French language)
Zukunft (German Language)
I've only been on Defiant lately, but in my experience it tends to be busiest between 6PM - 12PM GMT, incarnate trials start running each night from 8PM - 8:30PM GMT up until 11 or midnight if that's what you want, Mothership or Hamidon raids run on sunday nights starting from 7PM. Join the "Defiant Events EU" channel.
There are probably many EU players playing on US servers, but I'm not aware of any servers with specific EU communities. But you'll basically always get a team on Freedom since it's by far the busiest server. (with the attendant community issues)
Personally I'd say give Defiant and Union a shot and stick with whoever you like better.
Oh, and welcome to the game! -
Definitely something I would like to see. Do it on a costume by costume basis though the power colour/animations customization stage?
-
(that's User Interface, not the incarnate interface powers)
Two interface improvements I would like to see ingame :
1) Better power lists in the powers window.
Problem: Primary and secondary power lists are fine as they are, but a lv50 with a decent amount of purchased bonus powers can have huge lists of inherent and temp powers, making it tough to find one you might need quickly.
Suggestions:
Move Pool and incarnate powers into wasted space underneath the primary and secondary powers.
Break down Inherent and Temp Powers into more useful categories, such as
Movement - Ninja Run, Mission Teleporter, Pocket D Pass etc
Combat - Beanbag gun, Warwolf Whistle, St Louis Slammer etc
Incarnate buffs - Alpha, Destiny, and whatever is coming next
Incarnate temps - Acids, pac grenades, power cores
and so on
Also, make all categories collapsable, so I can hide categories that I do not frequently need powers from.
2) Greatly improve the enhancements vendors
Problem: Enhancements vendors such as Freedom Corps trainers, quartermasters, and ESPECIALLY the likes of Ghost Falcon, have ridiculously huge inventories that must be manually searched with little assistance. Unintuitive item names make this even harder.
Solution: Have the vendor filter out enhancements that...
Are not in an appropriate level range (a lv45 will filter out all of GF's lv40 and lv50 SOs, and only see the lv45 ones)
Are not an appropriate origin (a Science hero will filter out all of GF's Magic, Natural, Tech and Mutation SOs)
Cannot be slotted on any of their powers (if the character cannot use an intangibility SO in any of their powers, it will not appear in the vendor's list)
These filters should be able to be toggled off if the player wants to see the full list.
Also, it should clearly say under each enhancement's name exactly what it enhances and by how much. -
Just to double check, when you say Rogue do you mean...
1) A villain who has done tip missions to change their alignment to a state between villain and hero where they can go to both side's zones?
or
2) A melee character who uses stealth and attacks from hidden to inflict massive damage.
Because if it's 2 you should be saying Stalker. If it's 1, you should be able to join heroic teams once you physically go to Paragon City (through the sub in Sharkhead or Pocket D)

Way back in MA beta, someone on the EU side made a great arc that was pretty much a carbon copy of Streets of Rage 2. Maybe unimaginative, but I loved it.
Until R. Bear Rage+KO Blow'd me.

Quote:That's his Teleport Kicks. It's WAI.I'm not sure if its documented but I believe I have experienced it first hand. During my first or second TPN a leader asked my group to stay outside and keep Maelstrom busy. At one point, Maelstrom was "chased away," and vanished from the map. My group was standing around waiting for him to come back when suddenly he reappeared on top of me and killed me instantly with an animation that looked sort of like Crane Kick. I'm not sure if that is the mechanic being referred to or not, but it did really surprise me. This was on a level 53 Ice/Fire Dominator on the day or day after TPN was rolled onto the live servers.
Fortunately there is a countermeasure, it's even the same countermeasure you've been using for the last 50 levels - get a tank. A single player in melee range of him can shut down his ability to teleport. He won't teleport to kick anyone while in melee range of anyone else. (that's why he has an ability to KB everyone in the final battle - to get people out of melee range so he can use his kicks) -
Hm, this makes sense.
Back Alley Brawler becomes trainer in AP.
Ms Liberty Task Force replaces the STF. -
Nope, I trust this announcement about as far as I can throw it.
-
If I have someone whose first time it is in Keyes, I'll explain the process and then /tell them that if they want, they can just keep back and watch what I do until they get the hang of where everything is and where it goes. I think it helps a lot.

I'd love to have a magical girl costume pack, got a few characters it would fit to have that kind of costume as their primary or joke costumes.
The problem is, that old "gender equality" issue people have been talking about a lot lately. As far as I can see, there isn't really a male equivalent to magical girl costumes that is the same thing. (that is, without making them a wizard, or whatever) So we're basically never going to get it unless the devs commit to making a female-only costume pack.
... I was one of the people who actually liked the female Gunslinger pieces because there were a few that worked well for magical girl concepts. I'm pretty sure that's an indictment of the gunslinger pieces though. -
She can even be KDd. Ice Slick was very effective for stopping her in one trial I was on.

Why can't you use AOEs? A few single target people can cover the telepathists, everyone else take all the AOEs and put them to use getting to and activating terminals!
Was successful with the following on Defiant...
Team 1: Two tanks, an empath, a blaster, a humanform PB (me), and a combination of Brutes and Scrappers. Successfully killed the telepaths while holding off Maelstrom with this. (well enough that we got the badge for not letting teles convert too many protesters)
Teams 2 and 3 - EVERYONE ELSE, running between buildings, AOEing enemies inside and activating terminals. -
Anyone else noticed the Walkers getting much more difficult over the last two weeks? The last few runs I've been on have ended at the pair of walkers. It seems like the walker is targeting people much more frequently, and its attacks were hitting well after a targeted player moved out of the normal range.
Anyone else experiencing this? -
You can chain a near-unlimited number of toggleon commands. For example, I use the following...
/bind v "powexec_name Sprint$$powexec_toggleon Tactics$$powexec_toggleon Maneuvers$$powexec_toggleon Combat Jumping$$powexec_toggleon Evasion$$powexec_toggleon Focused Senses$$powexec_toggleon Focused Fighting"
Repeatedly tapping v toggles on all my toggles, starting with Focused Fighting and working backwards to Tactics. Then continuing to press v toggles Sprint on and off, since I used powexec_name instead of powexec_toggleon there.
By the way, if you don't mind using two buttons, I suggest...
/bind f "powexec_name Rocket Board"
/bind v "powexec_toggleoff Rocket Board$$powexec_name Sprint$$powexec_toggleon Combat Jumping"
Pressing F toggles Rocket Board on and off. Pressing V turns it off and activates Combat Jumping, and if you keep pressing it Sprint toggles on and off. Not tested since I don't have a board, but I think it should work. -
Quote:You have most of it. There are grates along the ridged walls of the ship, three grates per wall. Each can be broken open and a player can plant a bomb inside. Make sure you announce that you planted a bomb, as it will explode shortly afterward and potentially kill all your teammates near the grate...1) Did my first Rikti Mothership Raid last night. What a slideshow. What I saw was:
* travel about killing pylons.
* I hear something about vents. No idea where this was
* gather at center bowl on top of ship and fight
* Fight GM on top of ship
* fight for a really long time (I hear something about bombs)
* Shields come back up and we're done.
Clearly I missed some things. Can anyone fill me in?
Planting bombs summons the GM and gets you credit for a badge.
Beyond that, the main purpose of the raid is to get lots and lots and lots of Vanguard merits. Make sure you have done the Welcome to Vanguard arc from Levantera, you won't get vanguard merits without it.
Quote:2) Did my first Lambda last night. During the smash and grab phase...I got lost. We go downstairs, start fighting a spawn...and a few moments later I'm by myself. I try to run around the map to find things, but all I find are many, many mobs, all aggroing on me. The wiki talks all about crates and not about the mobs or movement. Can someone give me a tip on the detailed strat here?
Quote:3) Did a few BAFs in the last few nights. These worked great (except that so many want to camp the doors instead of chokes, yet say nothing about it when the leader says we'll be using chokes, then fail to do chokes ). However, in the NS & Siege battle, how are people checking to compare their health? I wrote two macros to target each after my last run, but I'm not sure if that's the right technique.

How did you people ever survive back when we didn't have weekly market updates at all?
-
My main problem with DFB is that there ARE people running it all the way to lv22 and beyond, where it really serves no purpose except to be a source of completely risk-free XP.
Had a guy on Defiant's help channel a few weeks back throwing a fit because he tried some regular content and could not defeat a boss. It just kept killing him. We tried to help but he refused to tell us anything about it or himself, just kept throwing a tantrum. As soon as another DFB started advertising he leapt right on it, back into its safe and comfortable arms. He was level 29.
(see also people asking what the "point" of Praetoria is if it doesn't have DFB)
Maybe this guy was just a bad player, maybe he found himself trying to fight Calystix the Shaper which would totally justify repeated failure, but IMO it's just as likely that he was stuck on a Galaxy Archon or Freak Tank. DFB does seem to instil an expectation that everything in this game is incredibly easy. And it simply doesn't teach you how to play your character after level 10.
While it's not as bad as AE was, I do fear that some new players are falling into a trap of doing DFB and nothing else. -
What I want is a little notice about who entered early and triggered the BAF cutscene, despite being repeatedly asked not to.
-
Managed to track down the hidden Boss (Black Whip) but no sign of any hidden EB. Rumour in global channels said you had to kill a lot of zombies at the end, either to meet an additional hidden quota or force a specific zombie spawn, but we never managed to get enough. If anyone knows anything else, would love to hear.
Additional neat thing:
After you encounter the Dr for the first time, all the people queuing inside and outside the mansion are dead, the wolves are running free, and all the barkers and Mr Mausoleum are gone.
I am confused about the reuse of Azuria's model on the cynical woman though. -
Oh my god this is WONDERFUL. The only things that have managed to kill me over the last few days was a few attempts at soloing spawns on the Keyes trial.
It is glorious and worth every inf I spent on it. -
I was lucky enough to get into this team (girl in the front row!) and found the arc a lot of fun. I'm not exactly familiar with the films it was spoofing, but found the arc funny anyway, which is always a sign of a good parody.
Customs were well made, and I appreciated that some normal enemies were mixed in too to make the spawns more varied.
Fun arc and a fun team! Thanks Freitag. -
If it is, then the option to attempt to buy Large insps should be removed if the player cannot receive them
