Thank you all so much, devs and players alike, for making this far and away the best MMO I've ever played.
Funny, I logged in for the first time in about a year just a couple of days ago. Timing, eh? Was a paid subscriber since Issue 1 or 2 before that, but I never liked the Marketplace, and I got a girlfriend, and I keep finding more things to do in the real world that tether me out of reach of any game with an ideal time commitment longer than ten minutes.
I wish there were something I could do to help CoX keep going. I don't know what else to say. This news is so deeply saddening to me, because I've always loved the game and these forums (I check them regularly, even during my absences from the game). I hope that everyone can go on to... something?... even bigger and better, now, but I know that the real world ain't like in my hopes.
But I always wanted City of Heroes to be out there, being played by people. Even if I have to grow up and be anchored by responsibilities, there's nothing like the joy of knowing that Neverland is still out there, where dreams take flight. -
Holy... I have to wait until Feb 28, 2012 to get ANY of my Paragon Points?!
And I have literally no idea when I should expect a new Reward Token, and apparently I should check for myself to see if I have all of the ones I should have had initially. How fun, it feels like I'm at a shady mechanic's place and I have to watch him to make sure he does the work he charged me for. Sweet. Thanks. -
I can't imagine there'd be many sub-50s running the Tin Mage TF, because every member of that task force has to be level 50. Thus, there cannot be any XP bonus in the first place.
-
Absolutely, I agree with that. I'm just not sure if that aspect is viewed as a bug or "working as intended".
-
It seems hard to believe that a Containment could be destroyed without anyone realizing it. It's good to hear a conclusive reply, however, and the response does indicate that there was SOMEone responsible for the failure... which is better than a bug being responsible.

I'm very curious as to what might be causing Lambda Looter to not reward.
To those who either SHOULD have gotten it and didn't, or DID actually get rewarded with it: Did your league trade around any of the temporary powers, or simply keep them wherever they fell? Also, were any of your league disconnected somewhere between the start of collecting the temporary powers and the end of defeating Marauder? -
Quote:I very much agree. They covered cats pretty well -- and what else would they need for minotaurs? -- but the wolf parts disappointed me greatly.I've been fighting for the beast pack FOREVER and the options they gave us are nice, but SO limited.
Why can't we use the ears we already had available to us on the new heads?
Why is the scaling customization SO limited on the new heads?
Where is the NECK on my wolf head and why is it so tiny? Give your werewolf any muscles at all and she becomes a pinhead! Why can't I make the head bigger than standard, only smaller?
Why are the cat feet STILL not cat PAWS, but instead have exposed claws just like all the other monster feet?
Where are the extra feathers for bird people besides having a bird head? How about a feathery shoulder fringe like the fur collar, feathery-patterned gloves and tights?
It's nice, and I certainly bought it, but... yeah. I'm underwhelmed and sad because I know they tend not to ever go back and add more to stuff they consider "finished," besides the fact it took us like 6 years just to get these.
No ear choices? Cats even get TEETH options. The Monstrous heads have a BUNCH of great ear choices. Human heads also have great ear choices. If I pick a wolf head, it's going to look exactly the same shape and size as every other wolf head in the game. There is absolutely nothing I can do but color it, which is a TON of customization options to waste on a character. I can't make the wolf head mesh with my ideas; I have to come up with ideas that specifically mesh with that exact head. You can't even use TWO colors on the head!
The wolf heads just don't mesh with Huge character types; "pinhead" is absolutely right.
While I love how Animal Fur has effectively replaced Monstrous Fur (If that's what it's called) by not forcing me to use a skin tone color, I hate that I still HAVE to use the skin tone color with the previously-existing bestial Monstrous feet. And those are the legs/feet of wolves and minotaurs. They couldn't get a simple "No skin tone required" option into this pack for those feet?? How could that have been overlooked?
Stuff that's NOT there, well, I don't like. But it's acceptable. Everything I've mentioned is acceptable. But Beast Run's jumping animation is SOOO incredibly un-beast-like, I just can't take it. Jumping with it is REALLY ungainly. So very much NOT described by the words "pounce", "charge", "climb", "animal", "bestial"... and so on, and so on. Why does it straighten the back out vertically, and make my character stare almost straight down at the ground? Ninja Run is a tough act to follow, and Beast Run's actual RUNNING (And landing from a jump melding into running) looks totally great... but wow, how does that jump have anything to do with beasts? I genuinely feel SORRY that I don't like it. I wish I did, but for now Beast Run is pretty much only used when I want to cover a horizontal-only distance. -
My first thought when I saw the words "Vanguard Pack" were that it would FINALLY let us use the upper leg armor and back armor that REAL Vanguard have, possibly with the back armor "attached" to the chest detail piece so that the one piece gives you front and back coverage, like the Praetorian chest detail options. So, well, that was disappointing, technically. But the Vanguard Pack still seems pretty nice. Lookin' forward to that MVAS!
PLEEEEEASE more front-n-back chest detail options like the Praetorian stuff, though! -
Hahaha, thanks, Lightslinger! That is an amazing find. The picture fills me with so much glee that I just don't have the heart to be appalled yet.

Lame. I got completely over SyFy's name change, and for what? Eureka is complete fluff that I don't mind watching, Warehouse 13 has a handful of great characters I love to watch but the show is written poorly (Or, perhaps, the root of the problem is that the core concept is poor), and SGU was slow-paced but must-watch -- and cancelled.
SGU really carved out a place for itself among what I like watching, and it did it against my expectations and with an often-slow head of steam. Sure, the writers make decisions that have me horrified at times... but they've also always shown that I could trust them, and that's pretty ******' unique for ANY TV show. -
I'm sad to see you go, Castle. Thanks for letting us say goodbye, and I'm very glad you stuck around for six years.
Most other people seem to have said these things better than I can, but I had to chime in somehow. Don't think you won't be missed.
...For one thing, there won't be any need for me to check the Dev Digest anymore. -
Quote:I have to agree; it's not a good boss encounter. The sheer volume of mines is absolutely absurd, and I think the ludicrous AMOUNT of mines is the one defining feature that ruins Director 11's fight. It doesn't make sense at all. There's just no way to fight 11 ordinarily AND keep the team together so they don't trip mines on each other AND be able to move to a safe area after tripping a mine. The mines absolutely CARPET the entire warehouse in ten minutes. When the minelayers were able to be defeated by AoEs, the volume of mines wasn't a problem. Now that they aren't, it is utterly impossible to try to clear an area even by tripping as many mines as you can -- by the time you've circled the warehouse, the thick mine carpeting has been re-laid. It can't possibly be what was intended; you can't avoid these like you can avoid Battle Maiden's special ability.I have to ask what the dev's intentions were for this fight, as I think the amount of mines, their damage, the ambushes and the Directors shall we say, elusive strategy doesn't really amount to an enjoyable battle, let alone any understanding of how we were intended to get that badge!
Quote:How is it you are happy having a badge that by the current standard isn't the real deal ?
Quote:With Midnight Dodger, I'm really proud of the fact that I put together a team where we all spent a couple of hours gathering nukes, shivans and other temps, followed by me briefing them all in chat about the tactics and everyone else following the instructions. I don't see how I'd be any more satisfied if I ran the thing again without the temps and had to rely on 7 other people to actively hop around dodging bombs while I prayed that none of them took a hit - something completely out of my control and essentially just a matter of luck (i.e. did I pick sensible/skillful team mates or not?). -
Ran a MoTM earlier today; we didn't use a bubbler but we did use a hell of a lot of nukes. I didn't get a count on what was used, but we had at least 7 people with them and we all had Shivans / other temp power pets.
We did accidentally aggro Director 11 as we ran back to the entrance after clicking the glowies. It still only took 29 seconds after aggro to summon our pets, nuke them and him, and defeat him. One Shivan died... we'll never forget him.
Smooth run; earned all of the Tin Mage badges in about 30 minutes. Great team. -
Definitely not the direction in coloring I expected it to go! Very nice stuff, the lighting is totally striking. Great in combination with the punch of that dynamic pose.
The videogame dork in me was trying to make old-school high score numbers out of the top-right bit of fire escape balcony. I thought it was pretty awesome, but now it's been revised and the railing up there doesn't look like it used to. Sad face! Wait, no, I GUESS it's good that the rails look "less interesting" up there. -
Fort Trident looks like the inside of a typical Longbow base (One where you enter via submarine), limited to the first two rooms. The main difference is that all of the TF-related signature heroes are around, with SG portal-looking portals that link to the zones where their TFs actually kick off from. Plus, the Longbow staff is hard at work instead of standing around waiting to be attacked. I'm not sure that it's worth taking and posting screenshots of, but for your sake I hope someone will disagree!

Hey, neat.
Yeah, I don't see a way to import, select, copy or paste, and those are big deals. There are no gradients, which are big deals to normal people who are not me. There doesn't seem to be a way to change the canvas/image size. However, as free alternatives go, this one is really (As I said) neat, and easy to understand. I dig it. You can make really cool-looking things with it, so I support the endeavor.
The eraser function is not pressure-sensitive, sadly. I don't see this catching on with tablet users, but that's largely because they all probably have better software that came with their tablets. Still fun to take for a spin, but I think the only draw it has is its price. -
^This is Hardi Harr-Harr, a smiling angel that let me go to sleep instead of drawing her! Still, here she is, since I'd already promised to draw her (And then double-promised). Buckle up, heroes! 'Cos you can't take pants safety TOO seriously. -
And, in the off chance it amuses anyone, here's the rough versions I sketch out (Usually with a mouse, sometimes not if I forgot) and then ink the final versions over. These are just from the ones I did today; I might slap some of the others together too, but the roughs are so loose that they're really nothing to boast about and share. You just... might find them faintly interesting.

^This is Electra Voltara, a renounced mystic! Even when you CHEAT at her card tricks, she knows which card is yours! My card is always the Joker. How come people are always chucking those out of their decks? The Joker cards are my favorite! I find it deeply fitting to pop them back into card decks, to lie in wait in the hopes of surprising a poker player. Anyway, I won't say that Ms. Voltara is not amused by such things, but I WILL say she's not NOT amused by them!
^This is the Duke of Poppycock! He's fond of wigs, and his security level is pretty low; however, I have high hopes for him because he likes swords. And he's spirited!
^This is Terminal Velocity, a time-bender who just SEEMS to be an incredibly skilled martial artist with super reflexes. I dunno, he's still gotta be pretty good at martial arts though, right? No amount of time-stopping could let him kick people in the head if he wasn't limber enough!
^This is Meka Girl. There's no joke, here, because she is no joke. Just look at how badass she is! That's obviously serious business, folks! I don't know if you guys wish you were her, but *I* do! Maybe I AM her... in some other universe! Disturbing!
^This is Vathenia, a weather controller with millions and millions of brains more than whoever came up with the lines for the weather controller in the first X-Men movie.
^This is Lacey Mosley! I've seen her around before, and it's always a little intimidating. Just imagine a lot of lime green, guys, and you'll have the whole unsettling picture. Good thing she's on our side!
^This is Boom Boom MacCool, an exotic, uh, danc... ing... superhero. Maybe she gets carried away sometimes, but she loves guns and dancing and you can't get mad at her for THAT!
^This is Static-Blade, who also doesn't get a joke. Half because of his badass pose, and half because my hand hurts. I hope it's vorpal tunnel! Ah, damn, I should have used THAT joke. -
Totally slick. Also, maybe that's why I don't hang out under statues.
-
Please make it clear that the castle in the background is only a model (Perhaps a cardboard cutout, that's funniest to me)! Please, please!

Very pro work on all three, but that last one is the one I find to be the most outstanding. No dynamic point of view to it like there is in the other two, and it has exaggerated features (Of course, that last is something I always think is a very good thing), but the off-balance pose is terrific and the vectors (For instance, the one that leads from the top of her tail down to her left toes) are absolutely top-grade. I love it.
