  1. This may be my last post to these forums; I don't post a lot and I'm basically shredded by this development.

But no game / development team / player base / forum has ever held a candle to the one here. I will treasure when the GM behind Ghost Widow commented that Huntsman Rafferty (out of his armor at a Wraith Spiders function) was wearing a similar t-shirt to one they owned. I will always remember having to respond "Yes, I am rather attached to my head" when a guild suggested switching Omnimouse to a non-monstrous cranium would get him in, not to mention the number of times he arrived in missions and got the response "Whoa, you really are a mouse?" Yelling "Let's do this" and "Transform and roll out" prior to leading teams in to rescue the ugliest holiday baby ever will remain a fixture in my unconcious. Having my big red horned guy from another dimension call all the short pink creatures demons. Placing in the finals for a *worst* costume with Rogue Alien Hunter's alien samuari fisherman outfit. My early moments unnerving people with the uncanny resemblance of my original main (Repose) to an eidolon ("I really wish you wouldn't run around the corner like that". Deleting and remaking some characters a dozen times to get just the right power sets. Loosing sleep adjusting an outfit or build, or making color charts of what holiday content each character had done.

All of it precious. All of it mine to keep.

I've heard of these many times but never before actually witnessed screenshots of them... Now I just want them more. Guess I just have to hope Dink has some free lunch time to look into where they went.

Personally I avoided the middle since I assume other people are following that method. Instead I went for about 3/4 down the list, and followed the advice somebody else gave earlier of pre-sizing my window so the bottom cut off that point right below the number I wanted making it easy for my eyes to focus on the target.
  4. I just managed to get the code in and now indeed have the aura (it is cool looking). However, I still detest social media as a delivery method and hope this never returns. I would have much rather just spent some money to get the kirby dots.

But essentially isn't this the same approach as the Halloween bundle with the random assortment of monster parts and floating brain? Not that I'm complaining at all, I really love the non-costume random themed assortment methodology, it just doesn't seem like that new a new concept. Is it a question of scale (i.e. piece count)?

Oh and to echo a few others: I really hope some cleaned up versions are considered as a last second throw in. History indicates close concepts are rarely revisited so the existance of dirty sports pieces like the mask and football gear would largely preclude a later sports pack that used the same models but different textures. This would be an unfortunate potential loss.

"Oh, they're giving a free powerset unlock to everyone who goes to HeroCON? I'll just buy the powerset -- it'll be cheaper than trying to get to California."
I don't see the issue here at all.

    With temporary exclusives NCSoft:
    * Almost surely gets money from the paying crowd, as opposed to the current system where they are sure to get no money (just a nebulous advertising benefit) and have to invest staff time in handling this rather then doing something more directly productive.
    * Likely doesn't gain a significantly different amount of goodwill from the people who get it free (people still like free stuff even if others pay for it, because it is free).
    * Isn't as likely to generate badwill from people who never will have a chance to get the stuff.

I don't see how a handful of people being able to say "Dude, I'm going to be one of the only people with kirby dots, EVER!" is going to increase revenue more then selling the product to a potentially significant portion of the customer base.

This isn't to say that they won't be available as contest rewards, or for other activities online (Zwillinger gave some away last night on Virtue, I believe). It just happens that the focus right now is to build an audience on twitter.
Making a costume part (aura) available via a timed social media promotion running while people are very possibly at work (earning money to pay for your product and maybe not allowed to goof around with such sites on company time) is far and away the worst idea I think I've witnessed coming since the appearance of Freedom. It cheapens both the point of having a market (i.e. that we pay you for the stuff we want) and being a ViP (who should get this stuff without going through hoops). Making people rush around for 5 minutes on a social media they possibly aren't interested in doesn't seem to be a way to build an audience as much as a way to alienate members of the audience you already have.

Basically if you want to give away stuff to people who mess with twitter or whatever that is cool, but you should make it available for people willing to give you money for it as well.
  8. I'd go with Mutant & Masterminds 3rd edition (which is also the engine behind the latest DC RPG): It isn't as crazy complicated as the Champions/Hero System (IMO) but comes close to same level of ability to model characters.

As a second choice I'd go with White Wolf's Aberrant superhero RPG. It is a solid rule set, though the character options are less wide (but then so are the ones here). The big problem with it is that it is harder to distance it from the admittedly awesome Trinity setting when playing / running it so it would kind of get in the way of itself.

Though somewhere in the back of my head I want to bust out the old TSR Marvel RPG with the color band table on the back. Great memories there.

I wonder if they could manage an aura that looks like a cheap plastic bag to cover the Hamidon costume salvage.

    * Or spinning around the head like ioun stones in D&D.

Example from a Sims 2 mod I did below...

    * Speaking of my Sims 2 mods, how about a giant eyeball for a head or tentacle arms like Lord Woot (or in the latter case my forum image). The hands just extend from the wrists as tentacles, they aren't actually animated individually. Hmm... I suppose this may offend some peoples sensitivities.

    * I presume the "legs" from a gorgon are out, but I'll mention it. More reasonably, how about her face or chestpiece?

    * And related to those legs, just the head from a snake would be cool.

  11. I'd like some more insectoid parts:
    * A chitinous claw hand styled after the three fingered robotic claw.
    * Old school bug head and arm(s) like in the original black and white Fly

    * Modern "realistic hybrid" bug parts ala the more modern Fly 2

I'd also like to see the monstrous foot styles remade as boots for non-monstrous legs: I believe only insectoid has an option like this now, where the monstrous robot foot in particular would be a nice option for a "normal" leg.

And of course as always I'd like to see every face detail option copied to every face detail category so we can pick 2 or 3 similar region options like horns with glasses or cigar with beard.

Maybe it is a robot dog. That would be sort of in theme and a somewhat novel way to overuse the 4-leg rig.
  13. The only "small" thing that could possibly make me quit before the servers go dark is the removal (as in existing characters loose it) of the Monstrous Beast 5 head and Flared Ears. As Omnimouse (my main) I was once literally asked "How attached are you to your head?" during an attempt to join a guild. The answer is very...
  14. Some said it would never happen... But pretty much all the personal inventories appear to be on sale this week (along with some firecrackers and the compilation of Who Will Die). Now I can hold 30 enhancements before bothering to clean out my pockets now: Very nifty.
  15. Maybe it's Circle of Thorns Set 2 since he used the word offering...

Heh, 500 posts after almost 8 years... I'm such a slacker.
  17. I'd like an AT that lets me play a tribal warrior or fantasy fighter: Somebody who can use both bow and sword reasonably well and take a little punishment without any of those capabilities being at the level of the specialist archetypes.

I was pretty sure we wouldn't get two power sets so close to eachother. I'm guessing staff fighting won't be next Tuesday either: Maybe the following...

    Is it justified?

Since at least my perception so far is that I've also recieved about the same number of "free" ViP powers that I would have expected during the same time span prior to Freedom, and the price point of the purchase only sets is not unreasonably high, I have no issue. It feels sort of like buying a vaguely overpriced expansion "City of Other Wierd Stuff" in stages.

I'm really wishing the bubble was a shoulder option instead (or also). That way full face detail availability is preserved and monstrous / animal heads could potentially be used in there as well.
  22. I was really looking forward to the leprechaun; I find it cute and thought it would be amusing to have it following around my animated tree character and make keebler elf jokes about it. But I just can't process that price point. I've grabbed every costume/pet/power/goofy ability except the carpet (which I'm still planning on getting when I have more points handy) and a couple of the npc costume transformations so I don't have a lot of sales resistance, but this is to far beyond the threshold of reason to me.
  23. Nifty set so far, other then the texture problem on belts 3-5 and "unpurchased" glove 3 (which gets a sku error if you click the shopping cart, probably why it didn't purchase correctly in the bundle). Definitely looking forward to planned updates...

This would probably be the only way I'd ever get use out of the current monthly token. I haven't felt a need to transfer characters in years, but renaming or switching sides does occasionally come up.
  25. When I bought the Collector's Editions I did so I could have and use the costume stuff: Wether it was exclusive or not didn't factor into it at all, I just wanted it available to *me* (I guess proving I'd eventually be a sucker for micro-transactions). Anyway, I'd personally rather see those old assets getting used by everybody who could enjoy them rather then held to a smaller number by some desire to make earlier players or eBay hunters feel cool, so I'd say unleash them. Sell them, give them out as vet reward, make them a perk for subscribing during a certain time period, shove them in a virtual card pack; Whatever works.
