The problem I have with Martial Assault is just no natural primary to go with it. Shurikens + Martial Arts works awesomely for a Batman style character, but not if I have to pair it up with Mind Control or something.
EDIT: Not to say that the set isn't interesting. This is just a nitpick. I'm still rather excited to be able to try this out. |
We already have a lot of powers that could fit into it! Devices' Taser (with more range/damage added), EMP powers, Smoke Grenade*, Caltrops*, etc
*- would need some gimmick tagged onto the power.

I just love the fact that people are drooling all over the Blaster set, when several people on the forums, some of which can be seen drooling, rail strongly against further "Anime"-ization of the game...when this set is perfect for anime-style characters. Honestly, can you think of any shounen series without at least one flash-stepper?

Whats funny is I want Martial Combat as a Corruptor Primary/Defender Secondary.
Bahaha Ki Push is awesome thats like the best thing ever.
Actualy this isnt a blast set but a manipulation set....so not a primary set but a secondary set...
So it make me wonder what Primary sets they will come up with next as well... You might be right maybe they will do something with swords...hopefuly primary and secondary ones so there isnt tons of re-draw....I could see some super sword primary atatcks happening.... Ala like the Animes: "Fate Stay Night" or maybe "Campione" Those would be really interesting effects....i guess i am just a fan of watching 100s of swords pincussioning the enemy though. |
We really are fortunate to have development staff who view the game as dynamic and able to grow in new ways. An active team that pushes more of the same is still good, but we've got a team that makes me feel the best days for CoH are even yet to come. Pretty nice feeling to have, especially considering I've been fortunate enough to have been here since pre-beta. Feels like we ain't seen nothing yet.

that actually was a great ninjitsu control set suggestion. but instead of a ninja i'd have a different sort of Oni [MM's have Fire so maybe Light/Shadow Oni? Metal Oni? to be more interesting than just a ninja XD]

Conceptually good set. I like the ideas here.
Let's hope there's reasons for Blasters to play other secondaries when this comes out.
The only thing bad about Martial Combat, is that now I really don't have a reason to pick anything else.
Gee, do I want a set with a large KB, a build up auto power, and Mez break, and a short range teleport (among other things)
or watered down versions of other melee sets with some aim or build up.

The way it works is by applying mez protection to your character of exactly the magnitude of mez currently affecting you, plus one. It does give you mez resistance (which reduces duration of future mez) and mez strength (increases the duration of any mez you have), as well as a small to moderate heal. The power is powerful, but since it can only be used while you're CC'ed, under half health, or under half endurance, it needs to be potent when used in those limited conditions.

So what happens when you use this when afflicted by a Mag 100 hold like Ghost Widow's Soul Hold, Anti-Matter's Mag 100 hold during Keyes, etc?

I think the recharge on the NPC powers is going to be faster than the recharge on yours as a PC. Although there is Burnout sitting over there in the Speed Pool ... trying to look "innocent" ...
I'd also like to thank Arbiter Hawk for putting up with Zwillinger's repeated attempts to make him feel uncomfortable (which he does to EVERYONE) during today's coffee talk. At least Hawk was better at reining in Zwillinger's Urge To Tangent than several other guests who have been on (in large part by not aiding and abetting him).



PLEASE give Street Justice that Storm Kick animation as an alternate for Sweeping Cross! It is very close to the animation I begged for during beta.

The twitch friendly style of Martial Combat is exactly what I have always wanted in a Blaster! Awesome. Also-- the shuriken animations for Martial Assault look amazing!
I wonder if it would work on the awaken inspiration's stun effect....
I'm super happy to see these sets coming and I think they're doing a great job.
I have to be honest though and say that this Blaster secondary isn't quite what I was hoping for in a Martial Arts secondary. I think the main offender for me is the first (have-to-pick) attack, Ki Push. Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea and should be an awesome power (and many people will enjoy it... and even I will with the right concept). It's just well beyond (enormously beyond) the "natural" set of powers some of us have been craving for a Blaster secondary. That is my only "complaint" about this. It's not really a complaint though as much as just a slight/tiny disappointment that this secondary is not the secondary I was looking for... move along. I say this because the attack is a Repel and not a KnockBack... so, it creates this slow, lift and carry away the flailing enemy... I realize now, it's actually a great substitute for Force Choke, hehe... I just would have preferred something (that you're forced to take) to be toned down for either concept... but they went with the Bullet Time flavor. Still, I think both sets will be great additions to the game. Honestly, I love what they've done with the Dominator Assault set and have to admit to wanting something along those lines for Blasters... ![]() Would have loved some shuriken goodness in this secondary. |
Something like Power Thrust would suit me fine, which looks like a souped up Judo Throw.
But, wow, this set sounds awesome! Perfect for a character I've had waiting around in the wings.
I think I put a max on it, something around 10. If I didn't, I probably will before beta ends - some of those holds are more "Encounter Mechanics" than they are "Powers", and as such are not really designed to ever be mitigatable (Anti-Matter's Time Stop, for instance).

I mean, I suspect I know what will happen by default but is this a situation Inner Will is intended to mitigate? KB protection can't be offered in quite the same "mez state + 1" way.

Sadly, Martial Combat will still be better paired with blast sets that aren't Dual Pistols or Archery (or AR or BR), due to redraw
