Discussion: A Death Revealed....
There are still two other missions in the arc. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you folks should wait till SSA #5 comes out, AT LEAST, before you go and start bawwing about how the entire plots been ruined.
VICTORY: "We have our own /emote"
VICTORY: "Because we're not Virtue"
VICTORY: "The red headed step-server" (CuppaJo)
VICTORY: "Most people just aren't sexy enough for it"
Im not sure why them revealing who will die is such a shock. How long did we know Superman was going to die before that issue came out? I just hope they dont come out with 5 Statesman clones.
Im not that interested in who will die. Im more interested in:
1. How a chump like Wade is able to pull off all of this.
2. Is he really the true mastermind?
3. How is that vile of blood he took from Alexis going to play part in his plan? (Red side SSA 3)
4. Is this plan part of his goal to bring Raulauu out of the Shadow Shard? (do his arc for details)
5. Why is Infernia the contact for part 7? (In RWZ at the top to steps leading to Dark Watcher)
Overall, I like how the story is playing out. Im also interesed in how things will be after the arc is finished. Everyone is thinking about the impact of one of the PF getting killed and how other arcs and TFs that had them in will change. Seems that everyone forgot that Malaise's brain exploded in SSA 4.

One thing that I've begun to wonder, is if the events in this SSA will be culminating in the release of this Mot entity everyone has been talking about which will coincide with the revamp of Dark Astoria.

Either way, I'm more interested in what Recluse plans to do.
Remember that episode of Batman: TAS where a small time hood got a rep for 'killing' Batman, and it just made him a target for the Joker? I could see the same thing happening to whoever is the one to do in States.
Plus this changes the balance of power, unless Recluse gets taken out similarly. This very much should cause a push by every two-bit villain group looking to gain some ground while things are in upheaval. It could explain how the Tsoo return with a vengeance after being absent from the game since, what, the mid 20s levels?
Plus, sign me up for the few who hope Statesman does make an eventual return. Like his creator or not, he's the face of the game.
As an additional thought, with Hero 1 in Vanguard custody, a cure supposedly being worked on, could his return be imminent to fill the void for a powerhouse hero?
That assumes he wants to stick around Paragon City. I personally, wouldn't mind helping him out overseas and get a taste for what London is like in the CoH universe. Considering we only have gotten to see one city and a small cluster of islands, it's high time the rest of the world was explored.
.
Apologies if this was said earlier in the thread, (I stopped reading around page 12) but I have a sneaking suspicion that Dead Hero Flying is going to be curbstomped by Darrin Wade's boss.
(At the least, I expect the big boss to put in an appearance before the end of arc #7)
5. Why is Infernia the contact for part 7? (In RWZ at the top to steps leading to Dark Watcher)
|
She doesn't give the typical "you must own this episode or be VIP to run it" speech the other contacts did before their arcs launched.
If she is indeed the next SSA contact, the 'why' could be that Vanguard has gotten wind this is connected with Darrin Wade and by extension, Rularuu. Vanguard handles all external threats to Earth, Shadow Shard presumably included. It's not a stretch to think Infernia joined Vanguard and they assigned her to something not Rikti related, considering what she's been through.
.
I really liked Statesman wish it wasn't him to die, but I will remain excited to see what the future holds. I really hope he gets a memorial in game for players to visit. I really need to get to work on these missions as I have only ran part 1. I play a Statesman clone on Exalted and Virtue called the A R C H E T Y P E who will now have to step up his game.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

It wasn't exactly a rocket-science style leap of logic, even from the very beginning, for anyone that expected them to "take the easy path".

Statesman is actually the hardest one to remove, because he's so tied up with the out of game artwork and promotional material, as well as being the most recognizable public image of the game, and along with Recluse is one of the 2 iconic moral anchors that the 2 sides are built around.

Once it's in the game, it's an already happened.
Now, it's something that's going to happen. But how will it happen? What could possibly lead to the demise of Primal Earth's Champion of the Well? This approach is something that's been planned for awhile now, taking a cue from other famous, or infamous, comic book deaths. |
Spiderman dies. Comes back.
Daredevil dies. Comes back.
Superman dies. Comes back.
Human Torch dies. Comes back.
Captain America dies. Comes back.
If you're taking your cue from famous comicbook deaths, then here's my prediction:
Statesman dies. Comes back.

(That's as close to Greenland as we get in this game. It's big, it's remote, and God alone knows why anyone would want to go there.)

I'm a little this whole deal was just spoiled like that, but seeing as all the little hints seemed to be pointing at Statesman, and the fact that Thomas and Martha Wayne are the only characters in comicdom that stay dead, I can't be .

I figured that the main person to die was going to happen before all 7 arcs were done, but just coming out and saying it...that's dumb. I would have rather found out when I played the arc.
Then again, the freaking loading screen used in part 3 wasn't all that subtle either :\ How you guys advertise a mystery story then blow it up before it's done just baffles me. |
And it doesn't mean he is the ONLY one who will die.
There's a bazillion and one things they can do with this storyline that makes Statesman's death completely irrelevant.

......Because Statesman biting it isn't the real plot twist in the SSA arc.

So far, if you include the now revealed 5th arc, we'll have 3 deaths. Just curious as well how they play out Malaise death in all this.

To be fair alot of comic book sites like to tell you which X-Man, Anvenger, Justice Leaguer, or what ever flavor of the month super team this month is, likes to tell you who is going out. Look at the recent Fantastic 4. They told you that Human Torch was going to die 2 months before it hit shelves to sell books. Captain America was another one who told you he was going to be killed off. To me the whole they spoiled it is trivial and not surprising they went this way.
