  1. I'll be subbing in CO soon, and WoW, bizarrely enough. My regular SG-mate and i haev decided to never again get attached to any MMO toons, so I made a...elf something or toher called Cohforever in WoW and we're going to grind our bitter way through it. CO will be for 'proper' MMOing, but it'll never be the same.

I tried The Secret World out, and it blows massive chunks. Great maps, gorgeous graphics, cool story, interesting (but flawed and limitied) freeform power system but Funcom are awful and the community is horrific (and the forums are moderated by children, apparently).

  2. That's it in a nutshell, basically. I get to the character select screen and start crying. It's ridiculous. I'm 42. Even reading the forums breaks my heart.

    Best computer game ever made.

I've been trying to find a game with as much narrative delivery mechanics as CoH, and failing. Bios, clues, speech bubbles, info panels, mission briefings, mission REbriefings...

Playing your arcs with the Accelerated Man will always be one of the most sublime gaming experiences i've ever had. Fantastic. take care, dude.

Far as I know, going into the MA building, bringing up an arc and clicking 'save" is the best and only thing you can do, it'll keep the text for you (be sure and move it out of the COH folder when you uninstall the game - screenshot folder too!).

TC man, I always liked reading your posts because you always seemed to like my arcs.
I loved them. I'll be playing The Secret World, if you or anyomne else wants to continue fighting the fight.

it's not the same, but it's not bloody WoW I guess.

  7. I'll support this with my cashe too. Just point me to the kickstarter page or whatever.

  8. I don't even know if this is legal or whatever, but is there any way to use a private server or something to keep CoH alive after the end of november?

I know nothing about these things, i just remember hearing something about other games and private servers.

    Eco.

I don't even know what a 'private server' is, tbh lol.

  10. Is there any way to save anything of our arcs,by storing them locally or something? I have all the text from mine on my PC, but I was wondering if there was anything else i could do.

  11. I was trawling through old threads from before my world collapsed (OK, it's only a game, life goes on etc but you know how I feel, I'm sure), and I found this thread full of players' reasons for loving CoH.

    It contained this trinket:

What a waste of words, that seems to me now. My MArcs, and all the others out there, gone. it feels like I'm witnessing a book-burning.

    Damn, they killed my superheroes...

    I feel like Roy Batty.

Soloing Sister Psyche on my Emp defender, killing a god, winning a costume contest, writing in-character MArc reviews with the Psystem, Duoing the KHTF, decoreating my base, rolling alts, and a million more personal experiences, insignificant and momentous...all those moments will be lost in time...

I'll never invest so much of myself in an MMO again. A really harsh and painful lesson learned.

    Dear NCSoft...

Never goving NCSoft any of my money again. Wankers. I'm crushed.

    Eco
  13. Dear NCSoft,

I just heard about this in a chat channel in The Secret World. I've been trying it out, and it's ok, but it's a console game made by kids compared to the fantastic experience that CoH is. i've been /facepalming at how the devs there could learn from CoH, and anticipating playing that game till ive done it and then coming back to Paragon and my main...and now I hear he's going to die. You're going to let him just die.

I've been subbing to CoH for the majority of a decade. i've never lapsed, I've alway been a fanboy, I've eased off on playing for weeks or months here and there but never stopped giving my money to NCSoft becaue i love the game and i never thought it would let me down.

    This is devastating news.

So **** you, NCSoft. **** you all, for doing this. **** YOU ALL. I'll never give you my money ever again. I hope Guild Wars 2 dies and I hope you go ******* bankrupt. You unbelievable *****. **** you all. You *************.

    Eco

I guess I'm banned for this, mods. That's cool. You guys are great, GL with your futures.
  14. I'll be in The Secret World. I started playing inta month ago, and it's ok, the atmosphere and investigsation missions and themes etc are cool, but it's all ****** open world like bloody WoW so you have to queue up to wait your turn for quest mobs and ...ah damn it, why did they close CoH down?

Never giving any money to NCSoft ever again.

/facepalm and now ive got to pray TSW doesn't die? Jesus, it's like a terrible nightmare.

Anyway, I'll be in TSW. if that dies, no idea what the hell i'll do.

  15. I just heard that CoH is being killed by NCSoft.

I haven't been in game for a few weeks, haven't been very active on the boards for months, but i've never lapsed my sub, and never ever thought of CoH as anything other than MY MMO. I thought i'd be here forever.

I'm absolutely devastated. I'm crying, right now. Words fail me.

I just want to thank the MA community for basically being awesome. I'd write more, but i'm so sad i can't. My old posts with my in-character 'reviews' will serve to remind anyone who read them of how much enjoyment the MA and you guys gave me.

Thank you, and I wish you all the very best for the future.

I hate NSoft for doing this.

    Love you, guys.

  16. Thank you for al the great work, dude.

So devastated to hear Coh is gone.

You praised the other content, full stop. There was no praise of the Hollows at all. You cannot "damn with faint praise" something you do not praise.

That's not how you do it. Really.

And again, if you're saying now that you were trying to "damn with faint praise" the content in Atlas, Steel and Talos by saying it's better than the Hollows, your OP was completely unclear on that. Nothing in it anywhere suggested that you were doing that. If you really want, I can give you a breakdown of why no one sensible would conclude that was the goal of your OP, and thus why they would have inferred that any "damning" was meant to be aimed at the Hollows. Which it was... just not via faint praise.

I personally find it far more likely that you just don't want to admit you used that idiom wrongly/strangely than that you're actually confused by this, though. But I'm cynical like that.
I think he should have added a comma after the word 'damming' in his title, so it read 'damming, with faint praise'. Then it would make more sense, perhaps? As in it would mean 'here's a post which contains two things - some condemnation of something, AND some faint praise of something else'

It seems a bit of a stretch though, to do that, just to get to use the 'dam' pun.

EDIT: I also love The Hollows, and I think Frosty is pitched just right in terms of challenge.

I GMed this loads back in the day. Awesome game. Ludicrously unbalanced, however, you're right. But when all the players are 14, that doesn't matter lol.

My players seemed to dpend more time trying to kill Wolverine than fighting my villains.

GH is also where MCM first appeared, and his would-be arch-enemy Gorilla Man ("A man with the mind of a gorilla!")

    2) Positron’s Pal will be given out when completing, ‘A Hero’s Epic’, the new Maria Jenkin’s arc

    3) Sister Psyche’s Comrade will remain the same and be given out when completing Psyche’s task force in flashback once Issue 23 is launched.

    4) Penelope Yin’s Friend will be rewarded when completing her new task force

    5) The Task Force Commander badge will be rewarded by having either Penelope Yin’s Friend or Sister Psyche’s Comrade

    Excellent.

I shall now retcon my mind so that you did this in the first place without having to suffer all the /facepalms and finger-wagging from the players.

  20. My Emp/Sonic defender soloed the Sister Psyche TF. He wore that badge with pride, and I as a player regard it as special too. It's an utterly dick move taking it away from him and me.

Bagdes maybe just be a piddling little bit of code or a word or few of text hovering above a toon's head to the devs, but some, most or all of them are IMPORTANT to many players.

Yeah yeah, I signed the EULA, you can do whatever you like to the game and my toon, I know.

But you do this, and I hear 'Eco, your badges aren't yours. They're ours. We gave em to you, and we can take em away from you. What you gonna do about it? Nothing.'

  24. I'd invest and set my family and friends up for life, and then ask NCSoft how much of a 'donation' it would take for them to permaban someone who annoys the hell out of me. I could probably 'donate' anything up to $75m for that. They could do what they wanted with the cash.

  25. Haven't read the whole thread.

Cool arc IMO, the floating ship map was great. I swam over and ran/jumped up the ships to the top even though I have Fly.

Space map awesome, but the big cubic artifact of Rularuu's info was 'TEXT'. That's pretty poor.

None of the bosses was particularly difficult for my en/en 50+3.

Would have liked Lady Grey's final dialogue to finish with "...and it's going to be very painful".

The Warburg mission was disappointing. I expected a bit more to gain control of the whole of WArburg's offensive capabilities than blowing up 12 tanks and defeating 3 bosses.

Final mission was v nice. Liked the walk of honour at the end.
