You guys need a proofreader.

Go looking for the "Wolfpack robot". Really. Robot isn't capitalized in the mob name and it's been like that for years.

Those kind of errors creep into my writing and speech all the time. It is one of those things where I have heard utmost a hundred times, but have never seen it written out. Same goes for when I see a word written out a hundred times, but have never heard it spoken.

You do NOT want to know how I originally pronounced "epitome".

Another one that bugged me was in Dark Astoria, when you first see Ice Mistral, Scirocco, and Mu'Vorkan, Mu'Vorkan's name is spelled "Mu'Vorkin".

Epp-ih Tome? Ee pie toh me? I do kind of want to know now.

I'm the same in that I'll read a word for years, know it's definition, etc but have never heard it out loud by someone that actually knows.

You know, perhaps it would be better if it was spelled and pronounced that way. Makes total sense. Now I'm compelled to track down the etymology of the original... oh... basically *out*-most.

Still makes sense to use utmost for distance and coin upmost for height. Otherwise, we'd be forced to use 'uppest'.

Ooh, an eggcorn!

Seriously, though, if a potentially-crash-inducing bug can survive in the display of things like Kismet +6 0X0.000000P+00ccuracy in base storage, WW, etc., for years, despite detailed reports of exactly what's wrong and how to fix it, why would you expect proofreading?

We should have a contest - what's the funniest misspelled word you've found in the game? (Especially when you factor in context...)

Ever since that Jetsons episode with Rosie (the robot maid) and Mac (the robot janitor), I mentally read utmost as most-ut.

The general grammar of that sentence could use some work as well:

"Her safety is of the utmost concern to me, as per her orders."

And honestly, I'd have worded the first sentence, "... on Primal Earth." Unless, of course, Praetor Duncan's location is underground.

For me it was "awry". I first read the word when I was a little kid in grade school, but I never heard it spoken until I was in high school. I'd been pronouncing it "AW-ree" (only in my head, fortunately) for years before I finally learned it was pronounced "a-RYE".

Pictured above:

* Miss Liberty, the trainer in Atlas Park.
* It's, a possessive as clearly indicated by the apostrophe.
* Unresistable, which is totally a real word despite my spell checker's objections.
* Merit Rewards, a type of special Salvage.
* Powerset, because the space bar is for timid country folk.

Let us take a moment to honor all the obnoxiously careless and unprofessional typographical errors in the game, and look for signs of more to come.

Heather Townshend's arc sends you to meet Hua Tov. Above his head, it says Hua Tov. In the resulting conversation, he's called Huab by your character at the end. I'm pretty sure he's called another name (I think in the nav bar??) as well but my notes when documenting the arc seem to have been taken away with the last trash haul.

A while back, the development team sent out "beta" invites to people to play the SSAs ahead of time and look for technical and text errors to avoid the arcs being embarrassing. I don't know how that turned out, because I was so pissed off at SSA3 at the time I didn't want anything to do with the SSAs (oh, how little has changed), but I assumed they'd gotten better at this since I didn't spot anything terribly wrong in SSAs 4 through 6. I'm guessing that proof-reading didn't extend over Dark Astoria, huh?

I'm not sure if you were mocking the usage of this, but just in case you weren't, the possessive form of It is Its. It's is a contraction of 'it is'. Stupid and confusing, but that's the english language.

English does not "borrow" from other languages.
English follows other languages down dark alleys,
hits them over the head and rifles through their pockets for loose grammar.

If English had a visual representation it would be this:

You must not have played the villain version of SSA 5, where States tells Wade there's "no where to run," and Wade later gloats that it's "clich" for people to betray each other in the Rogue Isles.

Miss Liberty is also not the trainer in Atlas Park. And "unresistable" is not a word. And Reward Merits are not called Merit Rewards. Yes, I was mocking the usage. There are so many instances of "it's" used as a possessive in the game that it makes me wonder if they outsourced their content writers to the same people who do customer service.

Trust me when I say I'm far from being a "spelling/grammar nazi". I never point out when others make a few mistakes here or there and I make plenty of my own, especially when typing fast during in-game chats. But seriously, this game's text has so many very obvious mistakes that it almost seems like they've gone out of their way to add them in.

I'm not asking for absolute perfection from this game in this area. But is it really too much to ask that they at least run the text through a spellchecker first? I'll bet they could have caught 90% of the typos that way with almost no extra added effort at all. Frankly this game suffers a bit when you see so many errors like this. It's always leads me to believe that if they're that careless with the text the players can read then just how carelessly written/commented must the code behind it be?
