  1. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression the primary hurdle to selling the game is that NCSoft themselves don't want to play ball. Going to Disney is all well and good, but even if they're genuinely on board with the idea it does no good if NCSoft remains stubborn.

Unless you're expecting Disney to...make them an offer they can't refuse.
  2. The "Save COH" motion took NCSoft by surprise? My opinion of them has been pretty poor following the announcement, but that little snippet makes me genuinely angry.

I would try to sum up my feelings in words but I don't think there are enough expletives in the English language to sufficiently convey my frustration.
  3. That's pretty much the gist of what I got too, hence my first sentence. But that being said, I still think getting a PA comic about the situation, even a vaguely negative one, is a good thing. It would at least be worth a badge for the milestone.
  4. In a round about way I think this (unfortunately) sums up the opinion of a majority of the internet:

But the good news is, enough noise was made to get the attention of one of the heavyweights.

Before I died so many times in rapid succession that my XP Debt functionally entombed my main, the time I spent in City of Heroes was characterized by wonder and amusement. It was Cosplay: The Videogame in a lot of ways - I’ve never seen people take their characters so seriously, and invest so much. Regular servers were the equivalent of any other game’s dedicated RP shard. The peoplewatching was unparalleled, and you were almost guaranteed a reward for looking at someone’s profile. I saw my backstory field as an opportunity to reward such Trick or Treating, and I did my best to treat liberally while keeping tricks to a minimum.

Not everybody played it, or understands “what the deal,” and since character creation is locked down they probably never will. It seemed like it couldn’t possibly be expensive to maintain it, but I’ve had it explained to me that it’s not about maintenance costs; it’s about turning that money, the people behind it, and the equipment sustaining it toward something new. That is no comfort, of course; people rarely think of their loved ones as fungible organic compounds. But, there you have it.
  5. I don't know why there's so much argument about who to "blame". Besides, a cursory inspection shows that it's clearly Obama's fault.
  6. I guess I don't really understand the reasoning behind having the bigger sale on the full set, when the set already has a bundle discount.

I would have considered buying a Miracle proc or two at 50% off, but even with the 25% off they're still out of the "impulse buy" range for me.
  7. I have a Fire/Stone/Stone tank who I adore, I have no idea if that's a common combo or not but I really only made it when power customisation came out and I wanted to use the volcanic-style Stone Melee and Fire was the only defense set besides Stone which fit the theme.

I'm not sure if "synergy" is the right word but Fiery Aura and Stone Melee really make up for each others weaknesses well. All the KD, disorients, and of course Seismic Slam really helps survive situations that other Fire tanks would weep at, and Burn, Fiery Embrace and a solid damage aura all help to compensate for Stone Melee's poor aoe damage.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how long it's been since you played. All that matters is whether the company kept your information on file (spoilers: they did).
  9. I think this might possibly be the saddest week in the history of the market. I guess it's nice if you missed those bundles (though I'm still not sure why they were time limited in the first place), but basically nothing of note if you picked them up the first time round.
  10. As someone who plays MMs more than any other AT, my opinion is that MMs as an AT are doing ok. The trouble is that there is a huge gulf between the sets that are "good" (Bots/Thugs/Demons) and the sets that are "not so good" (the rest).

I don't think MMs as a whole need a revamp/update yet, but I would absolutely put Mercenaries up there as the #1 powerset that needs attention in the game. Necro, Ninja and Beasts need something too, although their situation is slightly less dire.

The only other thing that MMs really need is improved pet AI (attack choices, and pathing), and I can't really call that an issue for MMs exclusively, since many pet-using sets frequently lament their pet's performance.
  11. If you are going to revert back to your original format, I am going to revert to my original feedback. It is a terrible idea to pit your customers against one another, no matter how many codes you throw out.

Sorry, I was wrong about that, there is no -def component. Oathbound is correct:

It wasn't -res, that was the Concealment power, called Misdirection. PBAoE placate and -res

Injection when used on enemies was -def, -dmg, -to hit. Still probably not enough to make it a great power, but the main draw is that solo only players now have something not entirely useless to them on their way to Aid Self.

Going by City of Data it seems to be 0.5sec pulses, so it's fairly rapid (for comparison, Bonfire is 2sec) but as far as I know all the calculations are handled server side so I don't think the speed is really an issue. Judging by the timing, and from further experimentation, I'm 99% convinced that my original guess (explained better by Codewalker) is correct.

If this is true, Force Bolt and possibly Gale should both be exhibiting similar behavior (ie. 20% chance for KB, otherwise KD), if someone is able to check. Unfortunately I don't have enough procs to go around, myself.

As for whether it is intended functionality, I don't know, but I hope it isn't. If the KB>KD conversion isn't 100% reliable then it's not really working as advertised.

As far as I know, the 40% thing was from the Coffee talk about i24 changes. Specifically what was mentioned is that in Tornado and Bonfire the KD chance was being reduced from 100% to 40% if the proc was slotted, but according to posters in the summary thread, the result was specifically mentioned as 40% chance to KD, 60% nothing. In other words, KB should still not be entering into the equation.

Obviously subject to change before it goes live, but I'm positive that 40% change hasn't been put in place yet.

That just annoyed me so much that I hate her, even on characters who's minds she actually WOULD be able to read.
Actually that reminds me of a situation with a character of mine, loosely based on something called a Blank or a Null from a certain sci-fi universe set in the 41st millennium. Without going too much into details, these people are more or less "psychic black holes", and it's dangerous for a psychic to even stand in close proximity to them, never mind casually jumping in and out of their mind.

It's that kind of thing which makes me realise the CoH writers have a more or less impossible job - they are writing a story but leaving a hole for the player protagonist, and said protagonist is a completely unknowable value. My character could be a fairly ordinary everyman, or a time-travelling robot, or a mutated goat with telekinetic powers for some reason, or whatever. If they have to tip-toe around every possibility then I'm not sure we'd ever get any sort of story beyond "the bad guys are doing stuff, go stop them".

Sure, it may not be perfectly suited to your specific backstory, but there has to be some give and take here.
  17. Just wondering if people are seeing what I'm seeing...I assume the same can apply to any KD/KB power with the proc in it, but I only have one slotted at the moment, in a Demon/Storm MM's Tornado.

Randomly the mobs are getting knocked back when I summon Tornado, after the last patch, which claimed to "fix" the proc. The relevant patch note:
    Quote:
Overwhelming Force's Knockdown proc now functions properly.
My understanding is that when it went live, the 20% chance to KD wasn't working at all, which is what was fixed. My guess is that now it's working, in everything, even if the power already had KD/KB in the first place, and if both sources of KD fire at once, the mag gets added together, and if it's high enough it gets turned back into KB again.

So my first question is, has anyone else noticed this? I have confirmed that Tornado + OF proc is the culprit, and I am fighting even level mobs (most recently seen on Arachnos minions, ie. there is no KD vulnerability at play). It only happens when I summon Tornado directly underneath the mobs, which I'm guessing is due to the 10sec rule for procs in pseudopets, I haven't tested enough to see whether it has a chance to happen again 10sec later.

Secondly, is this working as intended? Previously I assumed that the proc did one of two things:
    1. If KB already exists in the power, it reduces the mag to KD levels.
    -OR-
    2. If no KB exists in the power, it has a chance to cause KD.
But if my hypothesis above is true, it seems that it now does both?

We are not going to ask permission each and every time we want to run a promotion. We are going to do things that some people don't like. You are invited to voice your displeasure, in a rational and constructive manner, should this occur. We will do what we can to make a promotion appealing to as many people as we possibly can. At the end of the day though, we will disappoint someone. Years of running contests and promotions have shown me that this will happen, no matter what you do.
I respect that, my issue with the initially proposed giveaway was that it would disappoint almost everyone. The average player was going to be subjected to frustration with no reward, and the supposed goal of "building a Twitter community" wasn't likely to be realised seeing as the giveaway did not involve actual interaction with Twitter, just reading it at the right time.

The current proposal (starting next week?) is infinitely preferable. It's likely that I personally won't join in, seeing as I dislike Twitter and have no account, nor reason to sign up beyond this promotion, but I will still say I greatly appreciate the compromise and applaud the community team for shouldering the extra effort required.

As for future promotions, I can only say as a word of advice - exclusivity in and of itself is not a bad thing, but the character creator is one of the ongoing strengths of CoH. Competitions for exclusive access to anything involving the character creator is not going to go down well with your long term playerbase. You may think of it as being "purely cosmetic", and in a clinical way that is true, but in practice it's not that simple. Being able to bring your ideas to life IS the game, and it will damage your product if you put that in jeopardy.

This isn't to say that they won't be available as contest rewards, or for other activities online (Zwillinger gave some away last night on Virtue, I believe). It just happens that the focus right now is to build an audience on twitter.
I just want to add to the chorus, this is possibly the worst idea you've ever had as far as limiting costume pieces go.

EDIT - This is not hyperbole or exaggeration. I literally can not think of a single case in the history of CoH that is worse. I am also hard pressed to think of a potential future situation which could be worse. It's just a terrible idea all round.
  20. "Least damaging" doesn't necessarily mean "low damage". Corruptors don't belong on the list either way, but they're probably middle of the pack, give or take a little based on specific powersets.

If I was forced to make a list of the overall three least damaging ATs in the game I'd probably end up with Defender, Tanker, Controller, with the caveat that anything boosted to damage cap and throwing out debuffs is probably going to manage respectable numbers regardless.
  21. As far as I know Magisterium only awards Astrals for badge condition completions.

The Lore pet change....I understand why they want to make the fight last longer, but I disagree with this change for two reasons.

    1. I don't like the idea of making Lore pets close to useless in that fight.
    2. If it's intended to "fix" The Hard Way badge I think the damage is already done, this is only punishing the people who, for whatever reason, don't have that badge yet.
  22. Quick question if someone can confirm, going by the numbers on City of Data, a full stack of T4 Radial will provide a bigger regen buff than a full stack of T4 Core, is this correct? I understand that Core has a large portion of its buff frontloaded, but before looking at the numbers I assumed that both at max stacks would be even in terms of regen.

Mercs have many problems, but knockback is not really one of them. It's really only the Commando, and besides that KB alone isn't enough to drastically reduce their performance (case in point - Bots). They're primarily a ranged set anyway, turning the KB into KD really just means that the doofus who inevitably runs in to punch them might not have to run as far.

Putting the -KB IO in Commando might make your team a little happier, but Mercs will still be bottom of the barrel in terms of MM primaries.
  24. I'm ok with them not offering alternate means ONLY if the T9 VIP reward token remains an option for purchasing any superpack, not just the newest one. Retiring old super packs from that transaction is a terrible idea.
  25. I have a question regarding the Lights of the Well mechanic. My last league I was monitoring level shifts, sometimes when the lights went down I wouldn't get any shifts, which is explained by the fix mentioned in the first post. However, sometimes I'd get shifted but only for a couple of seconds, which obviously isn't enough to make any sort of impact on his health.

Is this some sort of side effect from the aforementioned bug, a different bug entirely, or is there a timing aspect to the Lights/level shifts that we're not aware of?
