Magisterium Mechanics

Hello all,

I hope you're enjoying the Magisterium! I wanted to pop in to clarify some mechanics of the final fight:

1.) Your deaths have no effect on Tyrant at all. He has no mechanics that trigger on player death

2.) There is currently a bug where only 16 players/pets will receive the level shift from destroying Light of the Well. We’ll be fixing this in an upcoming patch as quickly as possible – I checked the fix in as soon as the issue was discovered.

3.) Tyrant does not have a self heal. He does have a self-buff power which consumes his Olympian Guards, killing them, and providing him with bonus ToHit and Smashing Damage for each guard consumed in this way. This has a visual effect which looks a bit like a heal, but is meant instead to connote “Powering up off dark energy”.

4.) There is no direct negative effect to “Being in the hospital”. I have seen several people postulate that Tyrant heals or grows in power when people are in the hospital, but the only effect hosping has on him is that you’re dead and not DPSing, and therefore his regeneration is healing him better.

I hope this information helps you, and good luck in your endeavours to bring Tyrant down!

I bet a few still won't believe you, sadly.

I've already started on the forums.

I made a tinyurl for you to put in some of the MoTFD's for the channels you are in or simply for posting in conversations in-game (whether in a global channel, League chat, Team chat, Broadcast, Local, LFG chat, Help, Coalition, Request, etc.

I'd have listed SG chat but I'm not sure anyone else but you would be online to read it.

Here is the TinyUrl:

Should be easy to remember as long as you can spell Magisterium.

And what about the EoE use against his untyped damage, is that WAI or will it be changed?

What about the part where you do the entire dang trial, and then get that stupid pity table, with ten threads, or a single inspiration.

Seriously, I haven't seen that since before the BAF and Lambda were adjusted. That's just awful. The trial doesn't drop anything except Empyrean merits--at least you could fix it so the salvage dropped safely.

Yeah, I have seen people who played what I consider a normal amount saying they got the 10 threads table about five times so far. That doesn't happen anything like that often in other iTrials, at least not any more, so I'm suspecting something is wrong with Participation in this one.

Thanks so much for posting this! Excellent info. I am curious about the fix for item #2, regarding pets. Are pets intended to be affected by the level shifts, thus, post-fix, will we see all league members and their pets getting the shift?

Yes, pets are intended to receive the shifts as well. The power was originally structured as a 5000 foot sphere that ignored line of sight - but spheres have a default target cap of 16. I've restructured it as a map-wide power with a target cap of 255, so it should be easily able to buff a full mastermind league and all of their pets after the coming update.

You keep on coming through like this , I'll have to buy you a holiday present.

Speaking from personal experience, I've gotten 10 threads twice, and common salvage once. Now that I've unlocked my Hybrid, I'm not really encouraged to do this trial much more until this is fixed.

Any word on if this is working as intended? Because I KNOW I contributed a whole hell of a lot, and getting 10 threads twice in one night really made me angry.

No wonder my mastermind has never been on one of the "easy" runs people have been reporting. I count for most of the 16-target cap just standing there, and my pets never last long enough to benefit from the buffs. Now, could you fix the bug where my mastermind has never gotten anything but the 10 threads reward table?

I've seen this happen four times now on runs I've been a part of. (I was one of them, myself-)

In three of those four cases, the people who got threads happened to have been in Dreamspace as Tyrant was defeated. (I suspect the fourth might have been as well, but he never answered that question when I asked... so I can't say for certain-) My current guess is that that's what's catching people threads somehow. Maybe beating down the de-powered version of Tyrant counts as a seperate "phase" and if you miss that the system treats it as non-participation?

The dreamspace thing may just be coincidental, but in each case the players who got threads were regular participants otherwise, so I'm having some trouble seeing how any of us could have fallen foul of the anti-slacker code in our regular course of play...

At any rate, I know at least three of us /bugged it in-game at the time it happened.

If it's related to this, it's intermittent. I've been in the "hospital" when the trial ended and gotten the regular reward table.

in the 5 or so trials that ive completed ive gotten 2 VR, 1 R, and 1 uncommon so i havent really noticed any discrepancy in the reward table

I haven't gotten threads, but I've been on multiple people where people did, and they certainly didn't seem inactive.

I've never gotten threads in any trial I was actually playing in, but there were problems with it that had to be tweaked in the past.

I will say the Mag trial is the first time I've ever been awarded a threads only reward and I'm still not quite sure what the difference in my participation was. It was on my mastermind, but it was the 2nd run with that character and I did everything the same as I'd done on the 1st run, so it was certainly a surprise.

The only other time I've ever gotten threads was on one of my Dark defenders "back in the day", when Lambda and BAF were no more than a week or so old. 'Didn't see that table again until it popped up for Kestrel (my DB stalker-) in Magi.

Arbiter Hawk can we tweak the air crackle warning as well? This should really be a mapwide warning. People coming back from a death or from grabbing a light often jump right into the attack because they did not get the warning.
