Quote:God dammit, there I go too...Yeah, just...yeah.
The "top of the roster" character that appears when I select my main server (Pinnacle) on login is Mirka, my dauntless little Will/DB tanker. She's got a modest little rep with the Pinn community (particularly the Roleplay Congress folk) as being fearless and unstoppable. Nothing makes her hesitate for even an instant...she wades right in.
Now when I log in, she's staring back at me...and I swear it's like she's afraid. It's like she's saying, "I faced it all without blinking. Nemesis, Recluse, Reichsmann, Cole, the Hamidon...you name it. Now and then, they knocked me down, but every single time, I got back up again...and with the help of friends, I beat them. I can't beat this. I can't even fight it. Please...help me."
Ah, sh*t...crying again. -
I'm still logging in every other day or so, just to try and find something to do, but it's definitely depressing. Especially since half the people I normally play with just aren't showing up any more. I can tell just how heavy this news hit by the absence of people from my friends list and channels.
That said, I'm gonna keep doing it. This is my city, I'm gonna keep fighting for it. It may hurt, but it's a hurt worth feeling. -

I'm definitely in for the Thursday night one. I'll be happy to lead one with Silverwing on Virtue.
-
But Arcanaville... You left out the most important part.
Would the Devs still nerf regen? -
Got my donation in early!
Devs, enjoy the meal!
(I want pictures! Pictures of Devs eating!) -

Quote:Incomplete analogy. And if keeping you in their good graces cost $100.00?
How much would they have in their coffers then?
A good one, mind you, but incomplete on several levels.
Of course, given the full measure of such an analogy would venture into Macro Economics discussions well beyond the scope of this thread, I doubt that we'll ever have a satisfactory discussion on the fact. -
Quote:$50.00 I don't give them is $50.00 less in their coffers. They won't get that $50.00 from someone else. It's gone. Period. Someone else is willing to spend $50.00? That's fine. That's another $50.00. That doesn't change the fact that if I ALSO spent $50.00, they'd then have $100.00 instead of $50.00.Not at all. I believe the difference lies here: I don't for a second think that somewhere in NCSoft HQ there is some mustache-twirling executive gleefully cackling about how he's sticking it to the CoH community. However, we have multiple instances of users actively wishing harm on NCSoft.
If you've lost trust in NCSoft, that's fine.
If you don't want to buy NCSoft products in the future, that's also fine (although you should have a realistic appraisal of how much difference that is likely to make for NCSoft.
Yes, I don't expect it to have a big impact on them. But it's less money than they'd have otherwise. And believe it or not, if enough people stop giving them money for whatever reason, that is noticeable. That's the point of a boycott.
Quote:So let me ask this, and I really want serious answers because I'm in the midst of writing releases and communications: What if NCsoft agrees to let us or someone else purchase the IP and software?
Given that NCsoft wants to focus on other efforts, how would you, the City of Heroes community, feel if they came out and said something to the effect of, "Unfortunately, City of Heroes isn't part of our future, but we understand that you still want it to be part of yours," and opened the door for the game assets to be given or sold to someone else?
And until such a time, that is also the price I'm paying.
I was planning to buy Guild Wars 2 so that I could join up with a couple of friends and have fun. I had no particular interest in the game one way or another, but I was willing to give it a chance. Now, I am unwilling to make that purchase, unwilling to join my friends and probably enjoy myself a little more. It saves me money, but it costs me networking and social enjoyment.
When NCSoft proves to me that it is not being unreasonable, I will grudgingly tolerate them enough to give them one more game purchase, an give them a chance to improve my opinion of them somewhere down the line. I will not do so happily, nor will I be engaging in any microtransactions for the foreseeable future. But I will give them that chance.
I am well aware that my meager amount of money will make very little difference in anyone's bottom line one way or another. But is is MY MONEY, and what I do with it is important to me. -
Silverwing - My first hero, and still my favorite. I made her in the Beta, and I've played her ever since. She's one of the few heroes still around who has all 8 anniversary badges and is commonly played, I take that as a sign of pride that she's one of the few remaining heroes to spring up after the Rikti War ended, and is still fighting crime to this day.
She's grown from a young, unsure college student into a full fledged hero, a mentor to dozens of younger heroes, a savior of the hundreds of lives over the years, and a determined woman who will never shy away from doing the right thing. She's grown harder over the years, but she's never lost her optimism. When I think of the phrase "super hero," I no longer think of Superman or Batman. I think of Silverwing.
People have watched me playing her and been amazed at how nothing ever seems to be able to kill her. I know I've inspired more than one person to pick up Super Reflexes just because they watched her in action. I like to think that's a reflection of the kind of mark she's left on her city.
Professor Bikini - Just like I have a hero that I'll never forget, I've also got a villain. Professor Bikini was originally meant to be a joke character to play with a friend who made a corresponding character, her sister Doctor Bikini. Imagine my surprise when the Professor actually became a serious character in her own right, with drives and ambitions to go along with her unusual name and costume.
These days, she's an arms dealer/manufacturer operating out of the Rogue Isles, and when she needs venture capital, she just goes out and takes it. A rogue through and through, she doesn't try to be actively evil, she's just not worried about being good. She's not my strongest character by any means, but she is my go-to inventor, and she's right up there with Silverwing in terms of the mark she's left on me with her personality.
I've got others, but those two... those two are my favorite. -
You tell me where you're going, and I'll be sure to follow, Matt.
You guys are the best damn devs in the industry, even when you do things I don't care for. -
Totally Jawesome.
(Been waiting this whole event to say that...) -
Okay.
That MUST be introduced into a task force event as part of Mako's dialogue.
Make it happen, Devs. -
Quote:One of Television's missions has you destroy the Radio, so there's that. You know what I'd love to see? A no-holds barred, manipulation war between Radio and Television...unless of course, they are actually the same person/entity... >.> .... <.< .... >.> ... which would make the whole fight even more interesting when it was discovered.
Of course, that's less manipulation and more brainwashing. -
The Television?
CALLED IT!
Quote:The Television has a sadistic streak. I wonder what happened, were news ratings dipping?
Did Mako make a comment about radio waves carrying better than TV signals in the water? -
Holy COW, that is sexy.
I definitely need to pick up a couple of those sets now... Fortunately, they're not so competetive that they'll immediately overpower other sets, so prices should only increase slightly before levelling out. -
Has anyone seen what the new bonuses on Titanium Armor are like?
-
-
Quote:Orange, huh?Correct. These new sets are orange flavored, full of citrus-y goodness. And by that I mean new set bonuses and pretty interesting procs and uniques.
Synapse
Any chance we'll someday get to see a new yellow set for Targeted AoE? The selection is rather slim, and Detonation is a pretty darn inferior set overall. I'm not sure the resists will improve it much, given the weakness of the set's existing bonuses in comparison to Positron's, and the anticipated new set's bonuses. -
Fair point, Hopeling, but the two bonuses are always linked together. I was referring to the combined Melee/Smash/Lethal defense boost. They go hand-in-hand. Could I have phrased it better? Sure, but they are the same thing in passing. (Although, yes, the higher value of the Smash Lethal is important, I certainly should have considered that in my phrasing.)
The point that I'm making is not the value of one specific bonus. The value is the potential for the combined bonuses.
Yes, Kinetic Combat is obviously superior in that it takes four slots to get an attractive boost.
HOWEVER, that attractive boost is the only thing it adds. Its other bonuses are completely worthless in comparison to other sets.
Had Touch of Death received another Defense Boost on top of its existing one, it would have become the better option by far. Six slots for three attractive boosts is far more economical than four slots for one. The strength of the enhancements alone shouldn't make a difference, as anyone who deals in Reactive Armor will tell you.
As is, the 2.5% damage boost in Touch of Death is a significantly attractive boost, especially when considering that you will get the exact same resistance bonus by four-slotting KC and two-slotting ToD, and six-slotting ToD under this change since the Immob Resist in the two sets is equal. The only difference will be whether you want more positional defense and a damage boost, or more typed defense and no damage boost.
Regardless, the point I was making in my first post is moot, as Synapse's clarifying statement invalidated it nicely.
And Granite, Synapse indicated that all of the mez resist globals were going to be changed as well in light of the change. -
Quote:The difference between Touch of Death and Kinetic Combat is the quantity of set bonuses as well as the addition of new ones.I don't see Touch of Death becoming more popular, somewhat regardless of what new thing it gets (unless it's inappropriately awesome, like +10% to global recharge or something like that) simply because six slotting for Touch of Death puts the power in a weaker position than four slotting for Kinetic Combat and then filling up Kinetic Combats' weaknesses with more level-appropriate IO's or HO's.
Prior to Synapse's announcement, I was looking at the set bonuses that would be swapped out. Touch of Death would gain two new ones, at the time I thought they would likely be a two slot recovery or regen bonus and a five slot defense boost. More defense would have made it an amazing enhancement set.
Yes, it's an expensive set, slot commitment-wise, but if it got two defense boosts on top of its damage boost, it would have been incredible. Now that we know that's not happening, it's going to be less likely to be highly desirable. But it could still have potential if the resistance bonuses are good ones.
Kinetic Combat's only claim to fame is its cheaper Melee Defense boost. Not that it's a bad thing, it's still an impressive set. It just doesn't stand to gain as much due to this change. -
We're going to need to wait until we see what the bonuses are, but I would not go judging this too quickly.
Looking over my current scrapper build, I stand to rake in at least six of these bonuses without even trying. -
Quote:Oh neat! That gives me quite a bit of hope on a couple of sets that I looked at, as well as some that I hadn't considered. It wasn't a universal "Debt Protection becomes X" it was more like "Replace Debt Protection with something that made sense to me".
Synapse
You rock, unquestionably. -
Quote:I think the main people that are going to benefit from the change, is it is now, are scrappers, brutes, and tankers, with stalkers and widows also standing to benefit well. Depending on which Resistance the Immob Protection becomes, it is by far the most prevalent of the new boosts. If it's even a one or two percent boost, that's going to be a massive increase in resistances without changing any slotting whatsoever. Hitting the Resistance Cap for a character without even trying will be easier for straight resistance sets, and it should be just as feasible to hit defense caps since the majority of the mez resistance boosts are in attacks, barring one or two sets.So yeah, that's my view on it. Frankly unless the values are a lot higher than I expect then I still think that most people will build for Defense. A few sets like SR, Shield and Arachnos Widows will probably build more for Resistance since they can easily softcap but I expect that Defense and Recharge will still be the way to go for most characters.
The melee ATs benefit the most from this, no question. -
Quote:... Dangit, you just inspired me to make a new MM.Sounds like a decent mastermind set as an alternative to Pain. Henchmen with absorption and regular heal over time with some debuffs thrown in to speed things up sounds fun.
Undead/Nature.
Have they fixed the AI problem that kept the Knights from going to Melee range yet?
