Is this real? I hope not, but.. wow. If so, it feels like it came out of nowhere. Things looked like they were going so well, and there was so much development happening on test, with the new systems and everything.

City of Heroes has been a big part of my life for then last 8 years, and the Dev team at Paragon Studios have made the game feel more alive now than it's been for a long time. I'll type up a more appropriate "thank you, farewell" post when I get a handle on this, but for now - Thank you, Paragon Studios. You all are fantastic, and have truly made this a one of a kind experience.

I really hope they've got something in place to allow this to be an offline stand-alone game.

I know its not a joke, it would be in too poor a taste to do so... forum rules do not permit me to say what i think of ncsoft for doing this. the profanity would be apocalyptic. at this point i'd return the other ncsoft product i recently purchased for this.this is inexcusable. i need to go punch a heavy bag..a lot.

if its a hacking thing. i hope the hacking guess is the answer, its a thin hope, but dang.

Weird, however, that I JUST checked in game and the Paragon Market is still functional, contrary to the post. I didn't choose to go all the way through checkout, but I was one click away...

I don't get why they'd "shut it down" given the track record of older games with devoted fanbases carrying on in perpetuity.
But then NC has made any number of bizarre decisions over the years.

Glad I came back when I did and got to experience Freedom in all its glory.

One thing's for sure... I will be here until the lights go off.

Take the free codes back, stay open. And by the end of the year? I don't really know what else to say.

I am shocked and dismayed.

It's one year since Freedom launched. It's on the official website. There's no possible way for this to be a joke. It would be in such poor taste that it nobody could possibly think it was funny.

I'll hold out hopes that this is some kind of hacking incident but I don't think it is. Not the way it's written.

I've been through this before with other games (I still have a grudge against EA for Earth and Beyond) but I can sincerely say that this is like losing an old friend.

That's probably the reasoning for the code releases. Why hold them back now? Ugh.

So this essentially means no more CoX?

Sad but if so it's something most MMO's face and something that was bound to happen, I for one thought there would be at least another 2-3 years before the servers shut down...
