This. All of this.
I might be done with this genre of games for awhile.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
No idea if this will even get noticed by the corporate suits, but:
Proceed on this path, dismantle Paragon Studios and close City of Heroes, and you ensure that I and likely many friends of mine will never touch another product of yours. I won't be picking up Guild Wars 2, shiny new thing trotted out to mass fanfare. I shall not touch the stunted and faltering Aion. I will not deem Lineage 2 worthy of my attention. I would deny Guild Wars in any of its boxsets my notice or hard drive space. I shall shun Blade and Soul despite whatever promises it may make. I will not touch Wildstar no matter what it tries to lure me with. Any creation of yours shall be verboten to my money, mind or heart. And dare to use the City of Heroes IP without the developers that nurtured it to be such an enjoyable game and my contempt for your company shall grow to leviathan proportions. Yours sincerely, A City of Heroes fan since the EU Beta. |
Even if I have only been playing since 2007 and my wife since 2009.

I heartily agree with our dear Zortel.
NC Soft will go from a name associated with love straight through to the other side and be utterly hated.
I have a signature, me.

Guess this is my last MMO. And right when I got a computer that be able to sustain it too. I am beyond pissed.

I can't post in the official forum because I'm premium, so I'll just say this here.
CoH is the only MMO I've ever liked. Even though I'm not a fan of certain people on the current writing team, there are so many good things about this game going on.
The gameplay's great and very casual.
I love the costume and power customization.
AE is probably my favorite thing in any online game ever.
The community is awesome. I've made some really good friends I would've never known otherwise through CoH.
CoH's lore and backstories have got to be come of the most in depth and interesting-to-read pieces of history I've come across in an MMO. Crey is hands down my favorite enemy group in the entire game.
And above all I absolutely love this game's setting. I've been a fan of superheroes ever since first watching Batman the Animated Series, and it's great that there's a quality game that lets you be the superhero, or even supervillain, whether it's inspired by Superman, Goku, El Santo, or Dante.
That said, if/when this game closes the doors, I'll probably never touch another MMO for the rest of my life. CoH has been the only MMO out there I've ever enjoyed. I'm also not a fan at all of generic fantasy MMOs, and both superhero alternatives to this game are awful.
So it's gonna suck to see this game go, especially considering how deeply invested I've been in it. I really hope a miracle comes in and saves the day. But if one doesn't, I'm gonna miss this game a lot.
I'll add my two cents- I've tried a lot of MMOs over the years, but City of Heroes is the only one I've really stuck with. I love how open ended the character creator is, how just about any character I could possibly conceive of fits within this universe, and I love getting tells from people who read my bios "Great concept, I love it!" and similar. That's something I've never gotten from any other MMO, where my character has to fit a preset race or species, where mine looks like everybody else's thanks to all of us using the same gear, and so much of our character's story is already written for us.
I've happily sunk money into the game, buying costume packs and other goodies, because I was happy to spend the extra funds to support the game I loved, because more money encouraged more cool stuff to get made.
I was just now hoping to get a friend into the game, and as soon as her work training settled down, she wanted to join. Now there's no point, really. This absolutely sucks, completely. Count me in as another who won't spend another red bloody cent on NCSoft's stuff now.
