Well I was certain I would be a lifetime subscriber to CoH. I also thought Freedom would be great as a VIP. Instead, I cancelled my subscription a couple of months ago and have logged about 10 minutes total as a Premium.
It just feels like there is nothing for me to do in the game any longer. There were some cool new power sets, which I loved, but it was playing the same old stuff plus a new sewer trial. I hate everything about the trials, so those are out.
I have almost 6 years in the game and the longer it goes without something new the less I miss it and the less likely I'll subscribe when a new issue comes out. I have been checking in often to see about i22 and the solo incarnate path, but as weeks go by, I find myself not caring.
All of this makes me sad. I love(d) this game. I really hope they get this out soon and it delivers. I think it is crucial for the company to really deliver on this issue and the next 1 or two. -
Quote:I appreciate all the feedback. I think I'll just get the one best suited for my other needs and not worry about coh on it.Thanks Texas.
Would you say this one:

Is better or worst than those above?
I posted this laptop because I have it for work and downloaded coh on it and it runs phenomenally at minimum graphics up to the medium setting. I was quite surprised. I have never received lag even on 24 man bafs. Also I am usually one of the first to zone into missions or trials.
I never thought it would even run the game, but it does and works great. -
I appreicate your advice Texas. Can I bother you for one more? I'll be using whatever I get for other stuff, mostly, but still curious how this one would do with lower graphic settings in game:

I'm in the market for a very low price, backup computer, laptop or desktop. I've found a couple of $300 units that will take care of my needs. I am just wondering if either of them will play CoH with out long load times and without lag. Ultra mode is not a concern.
I'm just curious how either one of these 3 following units would perform. I am particularly interested in the Sony Laptop from bestbuy (last link) because I think that is what I am going to buy:

You can convert emps and astrals into threads and then you can convert threads into XP to unlock the slot. I am just guessing but you may have enough to unlock it now, or one more run should do it.

I'll preface this by saying I am not a huge fan of the trials. They are OK, but I can only do each one maybe 2-4 times per week, otherwise I get burned out on them.
I ran KIT twice last night. The first time, the leader knew what they were doing, but did a bad job of communicating to the team. We completed the trial while never in much danger of failing, but for me it was just a total confusing mess for the most part. After it was over, I formed the opinion that it was about the dumbest thing in the game.
But, I try to give everything a fair chance so I ran it again. The leader on this one basically stopped communicating at the second reactor, we were all running around like idiots, dying repeatedly, and I thought one a few occassions that we would certainly fail it. Somehow, we pulled through at the very end of each stage. We started to figure out just what the hell we were supposed to do to finish each stage including AM, who we defeated with about 1:15 left on the clock.
This second run was just about the most fun I've had in this game in the last 6 years. -
This is probably a dumb question but in the fuzzy kittens map (or any of these similar maps), what powers/sets do the enemies have? Which specific rez do they have?
-
I've had this same problem, but only trying to get into the BAF. The Lambda trial has been working OK for me. I waited around for 30 minutes to start one, then got mapservered 3 times in a row.
-
I finally crafted the 3rd level of the alpha slot (the one that gives you the level shift) and I am trying to figure out how to unlock the fourth and final level. I picked out the one I want to get and I see there are a ton of different ways to get it, but they all seem to require you to unlock a second level 3. Am I seeing this correctly? But to unlock the 3rd level, I have to unlock the 2nd again, and to do that the 1st level again ..that cant be right, can it?

Quote:Heh. Running with MG is very similar, although I like to imagine I'm not one of the weak links. But the TFs we ran last night, I found that more than half the team could stealth and recall friend as well as MG or I... and they already knew where all the static mission doors were... making me feel just a bit less essential, lol. Darn people for learning how to zerg TFs properly!
I'm sure if there is a weak link, it is usually me! Also, as far as the Oro arcs instead of TFs, that is a great idea and I would join in on those anytime. -
OK, it is the San Diego model.
Now, I am not at all against getting a new setup and I am sure I will probably go that route in the next 6-9 months, but If I upgrade my current setup to 2 or 3 gb of memory I'll get a significant upgrade in performance?
I can't see buying a new card at this point or a new processor if I plan to get a new system within a year, but with memory being pretty cheap, it seems worth the short time investment, correct?
You guys are a huge help and I appreciate it. -
Wow, thanks for all the info! I don't necessarily need to play in ultra mode, but one of the higher graphical presets in game would be nice rather than minimum or performance.
I know how to access all the info about my computer with msinfo32, but what is what is anyone's guess.
Would the motherboard be:
System Manu.: HP Pavillion 061
System Model: EG134AA-ABA a1230n
Processor: x86 Family 15 Model 39 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~2200Mhz
BIOS Version: Phoenix Technologies LTD, 3.07 7/29/2005 -
Here is what I know about my computer. It is a few years old. I can play COH fine, but only on the lowest 2 graphical settings. No Ultra-mode. But it would be very helpful to know (1) am I getting the most I can out of my system if minimal or performance setting is the best I can handle and (2) what would it cost to upgrade to be able to use ultra mode, even at the lower settings?
Windows XP
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3700+, MMX, 3D now, 2.2Ghz
1022 MB Ram
Direct X 9.0c
Nvidia GeFroce 6600 (256.0 MB) - Type DDR
Whatever else you might need to know, I'll try to figure out where to find the info.
Thanks to whomever can make any suggestions. -
I hardly consider myself a marketeer, but I mostly sell things on the market and have a pretty nice stock of influence. Probably about 1.4 billion across all of my toons. I know a lot of people have a ton more, but for me that is probably more than I'll ever use. I love getting random recipe rolls, getting orange salvaged dropped and the occassional purple drop and I do try to maximize my profits from all my drops whether it means listing high and waiting it out or crafting a recipe and then selling that.
On the other hand when I am in a buying mood, I just pay the buy now prices as long as they are reasonable for what I want. I know without a doubt I can craft what I want or put in lower bids and get what I want later, but it just doesn't matter. I make money and I waste money at the market. -
I'm stuck here right now. I cannot find Stateman, I cannot find Black Swan and I certainly cannot find any clues in the 64 miles of map to cover. The person who came up with this mission should be committed. I sent a petition but its been a while.
Can anybody tell me where I might find the mission objectives? Please? -
OK, so its just a "sit back and wait" situation? That's cool, although I just suddenly got a real itch to come back to the game and the free 30 days was a good incentive.
Thanks.

I even got this email:
Congratulations! You have successfully activated your City of Heroes game account.
Your City of Heroes game account is: xxxxxxxxxx
You are currently on the Game Time Card plan.
Your next payment is due Jul 6, 2010. -
I canceled my account and received a code for 30 free days. I entered the code and it says my account is playable until July 6. I am also able to post here, but I cannot log into the game. It tells me my account is not paid for. I submitted a ticket, but any advice? Am I missing something obvious?

They are by far the toughest group in the game, especially for me since I play a lot of brutes and scrappers. I curse them up and down and make a few hospital runs when I fight them.
But I can't wait to unlock that arc with every toon. I wish there were a few more enemy groups that were as difficult as them. Sometimes I like mowing through minions like they are nothing, but it is also fun trying to fight and claw your way through super tough groups every once in a while. -
Quote:I'm gonna skip around a bit and make this the 1 mission arc night, again with the Level 48 Axe/Fire Brute. I was looking forward to trying this one too, just to see what you were able to pull off here.Hey,
Care to take a look at mine? I have a few, but I'd like feedback on two in particular.
The first is only one mish...just a "fun" quick tribute mish. "Cartoons Gone Wild" #114716
Thanks,
Agent
Mission 1: Our contact is Montague Castanella. The premise of this arc is that a sorcerer has brought cartoon characters to life, and they have taken over Skyway City. There are 12 entities that need to be destroyed to subdue this threat.
There wasn't much variety in the minions and Lt.s in the custom enemy group. I won't go into too much detail here in order to avoid spoiling it. The map was pretty large and resulted in a bunch of searching for the last couple of bosses, but maybe I am just bad at outdoor maps. The bosses you have to defeat were a nice variety and they mostly looked pretty good, but unfortunately, I didn't recognize all of them. I don't think I was quite the target audience for this mission. I can only give it a 3 star rating. More variety in the custom group would be much better, IMO. Maybe cut down on the number of bosses, increase the minions and Lt.s, perhaps a smaller map.
A good effort on a pretty unique idea though. -
The same author as above has another 1 mission story arc, #217499. Same Level 48 Axe/Fire Brute.
Mission 1: Arias, a member of the Legacy Chain is our contact. This story involves Dark Astoria. The Legacy has been sending groups in there to rescue people from the darkness. In this case, a group was sent to a children's hospital to rescue a group of children, but they have not reported back. Who could say No to saving children?? Off we go.....oh, and the author notes that this mission may contain surprises.
The map is the hospital map, of course, which is a fun one even if used a lot in AE. The custom group looked really great. They fit in with the theme of the mission, the powers all made sense, and did I mention they looked great? Well, except for the final EB. He looked more like a strung out former rock star than an ancient vamp, but I'll let that slide. The surprises just seemed to be that the enemies were stalkers and would be hiding until you approached. It made for a very good effect and added to the atmosphere of this mission.
It is tough to rate a 1 mission arc. You can't tell too much story, but there was enough of one here to merit a high score. The enemy group and mission set up and overall atmosphere also warrants a good score. I wavered for a good while on this one before finally deciding on a 4 star rating over a 5. I just didn't feel like the mission provided enough "fun" for a 5 star. There were no real frantic moments, the surprises were not very after the first group....still a good arc to play and I recommend it. -
Quote:Arc #200364Hey Beach Lifeguard,
I would love if you checked out my short stories "The Legion of Mutants vs the Iron Agents" and "The Children of Astoria" in my signature.
I think both are a lot of fun, they are one mission short stories, and would love to hear your thoughts on them,
Red Warlock
PS: I'll check out yours and do a review soon...
Level 48 Axe/Fire Brute...
Mission 1: Our contact is a "Shadowy Figure." The premise of this arc is that the Legion of Mutants are in great danger from a special group of Crey known as the Iron Agents. The Iron Agents have an Iradium Device, which nullifies mutant powers. Our job is to break into a Crey base, destroy this device and help the Legion escape.
The mission was on the Zig map (or Breakout if you prefer). I appreciate the hint about having to go through the sewer grate, for those who might not be familiar with this map. The custom group looked OK, but nothing special. Their powers didn't really have any theme to them, just a bunch of different powers thrown together to make this group. There are 2 EBs to fight, but I had 3 allies that made the fights pretty easy.
The mission is about newspaper/radio quality but just a bit more involved, with a custom group, allies and a couple of EBs. I like short 1 or 2 mission arcs, and I will and have given them high grades, but this one didn't do much for me so it ends up with 3 stars.
