100 Merits a night

Since I've been keeping track of what I do each night for over a month, I was able to tally up the merits I earned in September... almost 2,000. That got me thinking... why couldn't I earn 3,000 merits in a month? That's 100 merits a night. That's doable, the way I play. ^_^

So as of October 4th this became my goal -- average 100 merits a night for the rest of the month. A side goal is to earn at least 50 of these merits on Alting, a character that I have level-locked at 30. The idea is that I can convert 50 merits to a hero merit and roll for 5 recipes every night (level 30-34 rolls, by necessity). Sort of a double-challenge, then.

I'll leave it to others to decide if all of this adds up to anything interesting. But here's my results for the first six days:

Wow!

Just becasue i am curious, (and want to attempt this as well!) do you have the times it took to do each of the arcs/tf's?

You'll be making more merits in one night than I've earned total (well, not counting the 50 I got for reinforcing my alignment, which I turned into an a-merit.)

In general, my SG runs Hess in 30 minutes or less, and Manticore in less than an hour. Best times have been 23 minutes for Hess and something like 45 minutes for Manticore. I've been tryingto run Freakalympics and Freakshow War story arcs in an hour, but I typically average 1 hour 15 minutes for Freakalympics and just over an hour for Freakshow War.

Usually can run Numina in an hour or less too.

I play a LOT of team stuff. I have a lot of in-game friends, and like playing with them.

It's pretty routiine to knock off ITF/STF combos in 90 minutes or less. Adding in an LGTF creates a 'hat trick' and rarely takes more than 2 and a half hours. Although with the STF I almost always roll the Hami, cyto's and membranes and enzymes are tasty.

If I was serious about merits, I would run Synapses and Numina's back-to-back. Numina is a real sleeper in my book. Elec armor is your friend.

I have literally THOUSANDS of merits banked, just becuz, well, I like running TF's with my friends.

And I know people who run way, WAY more than I do.

13 day total: 1359 merits, 104.5 merits per day.

I dunno, I'm starting to talk myself out of random hero merit rolls. At least at level 30, I've been rolling quite a lot of junk, and very few awesome finds.

We hit 22 minutes on Hess this week, and 44 minutes on Manticore. I managed Freakshow War in 50 minutes, and twice more in 53 and 55 minutes. I can see why that one's popular. Freakalympics, my best time was 1 hour 9 minutes.

Also -- I ran Hear and Now the first time and was surprised when I got to the end to find Maestro was an AV. I beat him anyway -- first time I've ever solo'd an AV! And that's without Eagle's Claw, my tier 9 attack.

I want to solo a Manti now.

Ouch.

Did it take longer to get started than to run it? I've never done a Hess where getting participants and getting them to the zone took less time than the TF itself.

Part of the reason I roll my randoms at 32/33/35 is that 30 gives you a shot at all the L10-30 crap AND all the 20+ and 30+ crap. And any level 50's rolling in the 25-29 and getting something that caps at 30 will get the same effect you do . Nobody creates level 32s but a level 32, though... less demand, but almost NO supply.

I'm honestly not random rolling for profit, though.

Since our group runs it every night, it's not as much of a problem getting started -- usually. It's also a large SG with new people (and brand new players) joining all the time, so nearly every night there's someone that doesn't know how to find Striga Isle. I've learned NOT to say, "It's the boat just past the ferry to PI," because then they'll take the ferry to PI...

Yeah, I actually haven't sold a single one of my rolls just yet, although I will. But the point isn't to make money, it's to generate a lot of level 30 recipes.

But at this point I may shift to level 32. Rolling right at level 30 exposes you to far too much crap; better to roll above or below there.

100 merits per night didn't sound like anything special until it occured ot me you're doing this on a level 30 toon. That's hardcore.

I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.

Well, bonus points for lvl 30 but frankly sustaining an average of > 100 merits per night is pretty impressive regardless of level.

I could do 112 merits in 4 hours but I'd pull my hair out in bored frustration from repeating the same thing over and over. Usually I get to about 1 hour of it before I bail and do something else.

total kick to the gut

I screwed up a bit this week. Last Saturday I didn't make my hero merit roll until after Midnight -- I didn't have the merits earlier to do it and then I was busy running several TFs. So on Sunday I wasn't able to roll before 9 PM, and after that I was on a mission team and then logged off and completely forgot about it until the next day. So all week I was rolling the previous night's merits at about 3-4 PM after coming home from work. I really wanted to get a roll in every day, though. My plan was to roll by Noon or 1 PM on Saturday, 8-9 AM Sunday, and maybe wake up really early Monday to roll early in the morning and eventually catch up that way. But then Friday I had other things on my mind and forgot to roll again until late, and I had to run a quick Ouro arc to have enough merits, so I rolled around Midnight again.

So I gave up. I skipped a day this week. ^_^

I also turned on experience this week for Alting until I was 33 and nearing 34. All of my rolls for the week were 35-39 range rolls. I think the rolls have generally been better -- less junk -- but otherwise nothing truly spectacular. I sort of figured after 19 days of hero merit rolls, I'd have gathered a few Luck of the Gambler +recharges, Numina's uniques, Miracle uniques. So far I have 1 of those, period.

(Also, in case it wasn't clear, I'm not earning all of these merits on the level 30 (now 33) character Alting. I need 50 merits a day for Alting though so I can make my hero merit conversions and rolls. So about half. For the other half, the vast majority have been on my level 50 MA/WP scrapper Tiffany Blackheart who now has over 1,000 merits saved up, but also occasionally on other characters. One of the Manticores we ran tonight, we decided at the last minute to try and make it an all-blaster TF, so I played my 43 energy blaster Liberty or Debt. We had 7 blasters and 1 brute. ^_^ )

I am really enjoying this tread congratz on the test. Like others have said this is very impressive, I find myself getting bored with the same old same old, so perhaps I will give something like this a try. My problem is that there are only 6 members in my SG and usually none are on with I am on.

I agree. I've been enjoying your experiment! (well, reading about it at any rate). I have the same problem that you do, Hell Jumper. My SG has only 4 people (including myself), and one of them is deployed overseas atm.

One of the solutions that I have found is joining some of the various channels and weekly events that are posted on the server forums. (ie Fire/rad goodness on Mondays and Fridays, The Freedom Horde events on Monday nights...) Guess it depends on what time you generally play and which server you are on! If you are on freedom, feel free to send me a tell (@Epoxy Man) as I'm usually up for stuff!

So yeah, I won't be earning a lot of merits in November.

Depending on the server you are on, don't forget to jump into the easy and quick hami raids...can be a fast 53 merits or whatever it is now.

I think that this is the first time I've ever heard of Hamidon raids referred to as "quick and easy". heh.

On the servers where they are run with regularity, that's exactly what they are.

I keep forgetting about those. And yeah, on Virtue they can complete one in 30 minutes, which is just about the fastest route to 53 merits I know of. I haven't actually been on a raid in several months but I assume they're still running them pretty quickly. I'll have to remember to join that tonight. ^_^
