    An Update

I'm sorry, but too good to be true.....is still too good to be true.

"Miracles" don't happen last minute like in the movies.....the likelihood of it happening in any circumstance is SO minimal.

I'm going to roll with the odds on this one.

    Pessimist or Realist? You decide.

Would be nice to see the game get rolling again, but I don't believe it would happen at all. If I'm wrong? Ummm, well, this is one of those uncharacteristic times....but, yeah, not gonna believe it will happen. No hopes up at all.
  2. So wait....what announcements? It's been a few days since "the next day."

    Am I missing something? O_o
  3. This is sounding FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!

None of the trash that was X3, please.

X and X2 were sweet!!! X3, ugh. Though, I really liked the reboot X too.

This sounds great....bring back Alan Cummings as Nightcrawler, that was absolutely Friggin' brilliant. I'm usually not a big Nightcrawler fan, but I would definitely watch a movie based on *******'s Nightcrawler.

He nailed that part in X2!!!
  4. Sign my petition to bring back Buffy!!!

    <insert link here>
  5. I've always felt the Rikti were overdone. They were the "big threat" all the way through the game....and I never felt they were really good enough nor interesting enough to really hold the spotlight.

I know it's fitting that the lore says the Rikti battles were a major turning point and why we needed new heroes....and we ended Beta with a Rikti invasion....and we go out on the Rikti....

....but, a zombie apocalypse would be so much more fun. Hey, it's gonna end anyway....why not give a story to it

Either way, I probably won't be playing. After the announcement.....I just stopped logging on-- wasn't my intention, but it is what happened.

I did get on the other night and there was no one in DA.....not many looking for group. It was a ghost town.

To me, it feels like the game is already gone.
  6. So, Nov 30th, we're all gonna be unplugged....we know this.

I know there'll be nothing "happening" in game to explain why-- but we already have the technology to create a Zombie Apocalypse.

Why not take us out in a zombie apocalypse?

With how popular Z.A.s are anymore, might as well make Paragon go down in an undead wave of zombies.....
  7. NOW it all makes sense. Arcanaville was going to be wrong.....so the COH universe had to implode.

    Like dividing by zero!!!

    *shock face*
  8. My character invented the internet.

    True story.

.......so, only people who ACTUALLY know real trivia are allowed to post here??! I don't THINK so!
  9. Not to be a smart-***, but there's very little that can be done. Unless you have a job or clout that would help in this situation.

I actually think some of this is very unhealthy. No one, that I've seen, has really talked about it-- but depending too much on an online game is just not healthy.

Sure, I was a little sad the day I heard the news....for a few days out.....however, I got over it. I knew one day I'd no longer play-- whether by my own "boredom" or the game being shut down. I think it was on a great path (finally living up to what I thought it always could be)....but, the funding was lost.

You have to move on and deal.

I personally always knew whatever I did in game was for my "enjoyment" and nothing would last forever. I had a choice in life: I could go back to school and work my butt off and get an awesome degree while playing CoH when I could....or just play CoH and become the person with one of every character, all purpled out, etc.

I chose to balance my life. Now that CoH is gone, I'm doing great in my field and heading to grad school in infectious diseases.....I knew that infectious diseases would be there when the game was shut down.

I had to sacrifice a LOT to get through my degree-- wasn't handed anything. My computer, UNEXPECTEDLY!, blew up after my first year back and i couldn't afford to replace it....and the last 4 years, I haven't been able to play CoH regularly. For 3 of those years, I couldn't play CoH at all. Only since I moved in with my roomie have I been able to use the computer, when he wasn't, to play CoH....so I was back in a limited capacity to see all the new stuff. Ya know what, as of Nov 30th? It doesn't matter what I missed or I would have gained if I had played all the way through. My degree still matters after Nov 30th. Life always has to be analyzed this way, you have to see what's important and what matters.

If you are a person of clout or with the ability to help, sure....go for it. If the game is saved, that's great! If it's not, I move on. It was fun. No matter how much I "wish it to be" one way or another, my wishes mean nothing. If it's here, great...if it's not, goodbye.

I don't see how putting a lot of energy into this makes a bit of difference....how hating those that have an easier time with this makes any difference at all.

I have no useful-online-game-saving skills....nor the money to help. Those that do, go crazy. I hope it works out for you, but, we all know it may not...even with all the effort.

Putting this into perspective (1= someone ate my PB&J sandwich and I have to make another, 10 = Asia-sized-asteroid hurtling towards earth) I'd have to say this ranks pretty low.

Would I like it to continue (with all the new powersets, revamps, costumes, etc. still coming in often.) Yes! But.....there's nothing I can do otherwise.

And I feel to cling in such a way is not very healthy at all.

Though, this is coming from someone who was literally addicted to his first online game: EverCrack. I had to completely re-align my views about online gaming and fix "me" before I could ever play another online game. This is where i get the sense of being able to keep myself in perspective....lose yourself in a game (which is easy to do) and you are throwing away your life.

Someone in this post said something about feeling like being "trapped" by the decision that was made to end the game.

There's so many actual pressing things in life that should make people feel trapped.....wages, jobs, the recession. The vice grip the wealthy and corrupt have on our nation. Things like this should be the things we concern ourselves with.

So, as an alternative view to the people that hope against hope....and tell others to hope. There's this view. You had fun playing, that is what mattered. You have to balance your life....some people have fun at the bars....some do it online....but it's all in balance. This may go away, but who's to say another online game might not take it's place? Or perhaps, you learn to compensate by being more social than you already are...which is NOT a bad thing.

  11. It's OK, I swore off Jack Emmert during E.D. and G.D.N. and all the nerfs around issue 5.

He boasted that "not many people left due to that'" herp-derp! I know I did at least....and I never would go back to a company he ran.

He might not even be with CO anymore, i dunno, but I still refuse to go. Let him go on thinking he can pound my favorite character into the ground (an Ice/Storm controller, NOT very overpowered even at the time).....and then walk away boasting about it.

The fix to E.D. and a lot of the nerfs came 3+ years later. Sorry, you set the fixes in motion and then do the nerfs with the assurance that fixes are coming.

I'm not sure how anyone played between issue 5 and until I.O.s came out (and Jack was gone.)

I'm still shocked he thinks that didn't impact his game at all. It still impacts his future game today, as I will NOT head to CO for it.

Thanks for the offer though, CO community.

    Dear NCSoft...

Left-field much??! I HOPE they were just hacked!
  13. Yeah, back in the day, it felt like it was mainly to make healers different.

We had AE heals (inefficient solo)....we had things like O2 Burst from storms: heal only others by targetting.....and the target enemy, heal around you. Blah blah blah.

If you could target yourself with your own powers, yes, guess they felt that was overpowered. Along with FF on yourself. Did I mention I hated Emmert?

    =D

In general, mutations are deleterious-- extremely deleterious. For something to suddenly switch up and become airborne is akin to one day your son or daughter shooting concussive energy blasts out of their eyes from genetic mutations.

There would have to be multiple genetic mutations for such a thing to occur-- and astronomically small for it to happen all at once suddenly.

Evolution/genetics just DOES NOT happen that way.

    EDIT: Fixed quoting
  15. Yes, I keep forgetting that DNA itself was only published around 1953. Really not all that long ago.

It is interesting how the virus has changed between Africa and America.

In America, with condoms and the fact that HIV is not "criminalized" (so information is much more freely available,) the virus takes longer to spread between Americans....so it became less virulent (as the more virulent strains killed themselves out before they could be passed.)

In Africa, HIV still kills quickly because condoms aren't used much (due to cost and culture)....and i've heard that HIV has adapted to be better passed through ummmm....(how do I say this without it being starred out?! Ugh) ....better passed through hot-dog-and-donut heterosexual encounters. Making it more likely the disease will be passed to women through unprotected sex.

    Sorry, pathogens fascinate me
  16. Whew, I should keep up with threads I post in.

What angered me was idea that it was even considered possible for HIV to become an airborne agent. It is complete hysteria.

What HIV is good at doing is mutating key recognition sites that we generally use in medicine to prime the immune system (in vaccines) or to have drugs target. That is very different from a super-mutating organism that can suddenly change how it spreads itself.

At its base, HIV is functionally the same-- matter of fact, new medicines/vaccines are looking for targets that don't change much between all HIV viruses --however, yes, HIV has a high rate of mutation to interfere with drugs/vaccines.

So in effect, we're talking about, in human terms: you won't have children born with only one arm or leg (or none for that matter, unless there's a defect.) You won't have children born without opposable thumbs....you won't have kids born without vital organs. These things are VERY well conserved among humans because it's become pretty darn vital for humans to carry these things and survive from generation to generation. Natural selection has made sure there are very VERY low mutation rates in changes in these areas.

However, look at face shape, skin color, eye shape, nose shape, etc. It doesn't matter WHAT you look like. This is what HIV does, it changes what it looks like.....and, thus, makes it hard for our medicines to work.....but, it doesn't change what it really is at its core-- it still keeps it's version of "opposable thumbs, 2 arms, 2 legs, and a head."

Someone did bring up a good point, this was 1987 we are talking about.....and I was a little one at that time.....I'm not sure how long we've known these things about evolution and genetics. And I know HIV taught us a lot about viruses in general.

So, perhaps ironically, the very virus he was discussing in such an uneducated way.....was, in fact, the very virus that taught us this lesson in the first place.

GOD, I HATE YOU TEMPORAL MECHANICS!!! *shakes an O'Brien fist*

EDITTED: For spleling. And the below add-on:

P.S.: HIV is MUCH MUCH harder to get from unprotected sex than first thought. Sure, you can get HIV the first time you have sex with an HIV+ partner, even back-door sex (much higher risk).....but, it's not an absolute given you will get it even over a time period with repeated exposures. Using condoms correctly every time, you are golden. And oral sex: as long as you don't have open sores and....ummmm, don't finish in the oral area. You should be fine. (Of course, you can use a condom for that situation too making you absolutely safe.)

2nd EDIT: Had to work around a sex act as it was starred-out.
  17. Yeah, males have had hair issues for a long time. Even after the "hair expansion" a few years back....I can't bring myself to use more than 2 or 3 hair styles without the rest looking ridiculous.

The Pocket D hair is hilariously bad. That Skull is saying: "Oh God, knife fight....I HOPE they don't go for my hair....oh good, braised my rib.....oh good, stabbed in the eye, but NOT THE HAIR!!!!"

EDIT: Making the point more clear: only the hair seems to be an issue on some models, but in general, they look better.
  18. I thought Buffy would be number one....when I saw it was Doctor Who....I'm like: ok, that might be THE only show I can see taking number 1 in this....as it's been on 50 years straight.

    I don't like Doctor Who....but ya know.
  19. "I am assuming that there have been no gross discontinuities in human life from such catastrophes as....an airborne mutation of the AIDS virus."

That angered me greatly. I stopped reading his prediction right there.
  20. Seriously though, it happens 99.9% of the time. Is anyone beginning to think, like I am: perhaps it's actually just a bug or lag in que times?

I can't believe that it happens like that every time and it's always ONE person.
  21. Mr_True_Shot

    Goodbye for now

Sorry to hear that. I've definitely grouped with you in the past-- RWZ arcs when they first released. In 2008, the same happened to me....my computer blew up and my car died. I'm still without my own computer and car. Soon, I should be able to build my own computer and finally come back to the game in a proper fashion.

What REALLY helped me....look into medical research studies. No joke, these things pay decent amounts of money if you qualify for them. I finished a study in January for $3350.

There are smaller studies of between $400-$1000.....but if you find the good places, you can find the big pay outs. Once you find connections in that area, you really can "make a living" just doing that. It's not as dangerous as people may think.

Not that I suggest making a living off of it....but, helping out until you find actual work (or to top off a low paying-- but very beneficial --job like I'm in)....it can help a lot!

Hope everything goes well, like I said, I'm still recovering from the great recession myself!

  23. I remember saying back around I5, before i left due to ED and Emmert......that this game could be SO much more if the time was put in.

I'm GLAD to say I kept reading the message boards and kept up with the game. I returned and I'm completely happy that, now, I can actually take out my lvl 50 (now 53) character and run new arcs every few weeks.

I feel as if, if I have "nothing new to do" I just have to wait a few more weeks and I get a bunch of new stuff.

Sure, the average WoW player will finish this stuff in 2 nights.....but, for me, I can play around with new things for awhile before I get bored (even though I finish content much faster than the average player) and I can wait for the new things.

Way to go!!! This game is now the game I always said it could be!!
  24. I keep saying, about this screenshot, look to the left of the earth. That is the moon

EDIT: forgot where the moon was actually located
