Discussion: A Death Revealed....
... aww why did you go and ruin this so early.
In true comic book fashion, it will be revealed that the "Statesman" who died is actually his twin brother...
I guess it last night when they moved the helo for STF to a different place in IP.
No kidding right? It's kinda like reading a book until it gets to the turning point and you're like "How is it going to end?" just to have someone tell you and ruin reading how it turns out. I mean really? Did this have to be posted? Why not just say the phalanx breaks over a death of their own or something to that effect?

Color me surprised. In some ways, he was kind of the obvious choice, and there was that little "giveaway" in the name of the loyalty event, but the fact that he's all over the freaking was keeping him safe, I thought. Is that going to be redone? Or are we going to have a character who's not in the game plastered over the splash screen still after the arc ends?
Also interesting is that he dies with two chapters left. The general knowledge that the heroes must fail in an arc like this, I think, had a lot of people feeling kind of bummed, but since we now know there are two more chapters afterwards, that still gives a much better chance to "put things right".
I knew it!
Hrmm.
On the one hand, ballsy of you to kill off your big signature hero.
On the other hand, you've still got two more stories to go, which makes me feel like Statesman will just get resurrected or something.
And yeah, kinda killed the suspense of it, too.
Well, the thread is titled a Death Revealed. If you did not want to spoil it then don't click on it.

If that's a reference to the FREEDOM PHALANX novel (and I really think it is), it should be "Grandpa, can you fly to heaven?" (From the conversation Jessica has with Marcus after Monica Cole's funeral.)
And I agree - this is totally spoilerish with the arc not even out yet. What the hell was Marketing thinking? (Though the picture is awesome.)

The feeling is that impact of States dying is not in the reveal that he's dying but in the fact that he's dying. How does he die? What does it mean for the Freedom Phalanx and, perhaps more importantly, what does it mean for the future safety and well being of Paragon City.
There's a lot more questions to be answered and story to be explored, even after his death.
And trust me, his death scene is pretty stirring.

Or perhaps that this is only *one* death in the arc, and there's a second one they're keeping under tight wrap to floor us since we're now not expecting it?

Its kind of a buzz kill to find out that my suspicion was right. Oh well, I guess you guys couldn't figure out a way to stretch it out, huh?
So long States, see you in Pocket D next to War Witch.

Since 2004 he has been there.
He guards over Paragon City, ever vigilant, ever watchful. He has always been a beacon of justice and a bastion of hope, the citizens of Paragon knowing that no matter what, he would be there, ready to protect the helpless and to stand against whatever threats may loom on the horizon.
In 2012, Statesman will die.
How will he die? What is the future of Paragon City in a world without Statesman? Uncertainty surrounds these events as you play through this epic story line which will forever change the face of City of Heroes Freedom. As leader of the Freedom Phalanx, Statesman has represented the potential and pinnacle of what players can achieve in the world’s first super heroic MMORPG. In true comic book fashion, Statesman’s backstory is deeply entrenched in the lore of the game’s various villains and heroes, and his absence will create a power vacuum for players to fill. It is for these reasons that his death signifies a significant shift in the story of City of Heroes Freedom.
Statesman will meet his fate in Signature Story Arc 1: #5, available for free to all VIP subscribers.
