  1. I was the very definition of "newbish" when I first started playing. I can't even begin to count how many questions I asked over the help channel. But people went out of their way to make sure things were squared away. One guy even game me 2 mil inf "just to get me started." So, my experience was the opposite of yours.

I mean, I did play on Liberty at first, and the server was kind of small, but after making a character on Virtue, I was blown away by the amount of people playing. And this was before Freedom went live.

You're definitely entitled to your opinion though. I may not agree with it, but I"m not going to belittle it either.
  2. Maybe a plaque at City Hall saying something like, "This spot marks the location of an epic battle that forced heroes and villains alike to team up against a greater force that threatened the entire world," or something like that.

The fact is, this is not worthy of CNN. This is worthy of gaming magazines and websites. I say the same thing about many of the other stupid stories. There are people who are getting gutted by corporate decisions who have worked at corporations for the better part of their lives. Factories are being closed that employ thousands of American workers so we can ship jobs to lands where workers make pennies on the hour.

If I could save City of Heroes, I would. Do I think the developers at Paragon Studios deserve to keep their jobs? Yes. But I think we need to gain some perspective here. We're a gaming community. NCSoft's decision affected the gaming and entertainment lives of a few dozen-thousand people, and the work lives of less than a hundred. This is not "standing up to the man". This is whining and screaming and trying to act more important than you really are, to an organization that reports bombing runs on Baghdad and uprisings in Syria. Perspective, grasshoppah. Do an iReport to a gaming mag.
If CNN didn't feel this was worthy of their glorious website, then why would they approve it? There's also the fact that CNN does have a section devoted to gaming.

To the OP: Nice article and congrats on getting it vetted.

    False Hope

'So because the odds are against something, people just shouldn't try at all? If people followed that mentality, there's be no USA (whether that's a good or bad thing is your opinion), no Apple (again, good or bad, your opinion), and countless other things that simply would not be here if people had just "laid down and died."

Fighting for CoH doesn't sully its memory. On the contrary, it strengthens its memory by associating it with a community that doesn't simply give up because something isn't likely. You're free to sit on the side lines and do nothing, but don't criticize those who do...do...something.

And when December 1 comes and CoH is still running, don't try to take any credit.

Right now, I'm on Balmung, which is the unofficial RP server, and will probably remain that way. If any CoH players are on balmung, I'd be happy to team up sometimes.

I sort of want to try the game again, but last I looked into it most everyone had level 50 in all jobs, and level 50 in all crafting professions.. Kind of killed the fun for me.
They said something about releasing a few servers that only new players could join. I'm sure some of the more established servers will have new players as well. I may create a new character myself since the leveling experience is supposed to be different. Haven't really made any real progress anyways.
  7. Otherland is looking pretty awesome. A cyberpunk MMO!? I've been dreaming of this since I first saw GitS. I'll check out Dust 514 if I ever get another PS3. And while PSO2 is technically out (in Japan), I can't wait to try it when it releases in NA. Finally, I'm with the ton of folks waiting for FFXIV: A Realm Reborn to get here.
  8. This looked amazing. Especially the last one.

Out of those three, I'd be with Sega as well. Zynga would probably add some kind of fatigue system that required you to buy Paragon tokens to play for a hour.

EA would probably try to turn it into the the MMO equivalent of North Face, then jack up the prices because reasonable prices are a sign of desperation.

Still, I'd be up for anyone if it meant the devs could keep their jobs, and we could keep our game.

    To all of you...

I'm gonna miss you guys. The ustream meets, the in-game events, everything. You guys were some of the best devs out there. It was amazing how you interacted with the playerbase to make CoH more than just a game, but a way of life. I keep reading about how CoH has made some big difference in people's lives, and you guys definitely had a part in that. You deserve to give yourselves a pat on the back.

I'm not really well-known here, not by a long shot, but I still wanted to show my gratitude to you guys for giving me one of the best experiences I could have. In CoH, I actually felt like I was a part of the community instead of some random loner killing 20 rats by himself.

Kudos to you guys, and good luck with everything.
  11. I'd help in any way I can. I don't have much, but I can scrounge up something. Good luck!
  12. Having to resummon VS does get annoying. I'd love for it to be a toggle instead.
  13. How'd it turn out? I would have come, but I just read about it.
  14. They've been gone since before Freedom went live.
  15. In true comic book fashion, it will be revealed that the "Statesman" who died is actually his twin brother...
  16. The new additions sound fun. I can't wait to see them.
  17. Try rolling back your driver. The newest driver causes issues with Geforce 6 cards and City of Heroes.

I guess the public wifi is disabled. It sucks because I won't be home for a few days. CoH withdrawal is starting to set in. :S
  19. I just resubscribed to VIP status today because I wanted to try the Media Blitz trials. After patching and trying to log in, I get this error message:

I looked on the Server Status page to check if the servers are down. It says that they are all up, but I know how that page can be unreliable sometimes.

I also went into Norton and changed the firewall permissions for City of Heroes and NCSoft Launcher from 'Auto' to 'Allow'. This didn't work. I also disable Norton Smart Firewall altogether, but I still get that message.

Anyone know what the problem is?

I'm using a public wifi connection. Is it possible that the Internet connection has the game blocked? Any tips? Thanks.
  20. I wasn't really a fan of Apple until recently (when I decided to give the IPhone a try. Brilliant piece of work, that phone). Still, I can appreciate everything Steve Jobs has done for the computer/mobile industry. He was one of the people that inspired me to get into the industry.

RIP Steve Jobs. The world has lost a really great person.

For example, your new time card activates October 3rd. You get 400 points then, and 400 points again on November 3rd.

Thanks for the explanation. I'm just getting a chance to read this. Been very busy lately.
  22. It's always been funny, imo, to see people complain in-game about how crappy the game is, especially before it was converted to a hybrid payment model. Why are you paying $15/month for the same game that you claim is crappy?

The fact that this game has lasted 7 to 8 years should be a testament to how great the game is. Many MMOs die within a few months to a year.
  23. What if we subscribe using game cards? I buy a 60-day game card every, well, 60 days? Have they said how they plan to handle those?
