I really like the new Avengers show. It's not quite up there with Justice League but it's pretty good.

I love this show. Characters are very well done. For the first several episodes, I thought they would be copying the original Stan Lee comics with a modern setting.

While I like that they found the Hulk and brought him back into the fold and his interactions with Hawkeye, I have a feeling that means no She Hulk down the road, who is actually more associated with the Avengers (and the FF) then Hulk ever was.

I'm also disappointed that they want to copy the movies so badly, that means no Human Jarvis (but he has to have been named after *something*, right?) and they are trying to copy movie Tony and can't quite do it. But he's ok.

Nick Fury is just about the most useless character on this show...He hasn't done anything of any value to date, except capture Grim Reaper once. (Strucker and Reaper are both at large). This is another example of trying to please everyone and pleasing no one with this combination of Fury from 2 different universes. He has NO edge at all.

Everything else is great though!

Cute. But they can still put in a human Jarvis with a little imaginative writing.

I agree with the poster above: The Hawkeye/Hulk "bromance" is very nicely done. I especially loved when Cap was giving Tony some hand-to-hand training, while Hawkeye and Hulk sat on the sidelines and made fun of Tony for getting his kiester handed to him. Repeatedly.
That was ace....especially the way they didn't actually show what Cap was doing to him, just "ready?" *flash to black screen* *Tony picking himself up*

I just didn't get it.

The opening song was a big turn-off, but not a dealbreaker. Generic pop punk boy band singing a pretty crappy song, and doing it unenthusiastically at that. But still, it wasn't near as bad as, say, the theme to Star Trek: Enterprise (aka - "the worst theme song ever").

But there was a weird disconnect in the cartoon itself that was the bigger problem for me. Not sure how to describe it. It's as if the writers and the animators aren't on the same page with regards to the age of their target audience, or as if they started out with several radically different art styles before settling on a mostly weak hybrid of them all. It's the kind of disconnect that would lead them to put DC's Brainiac in their opening credits without anyone saying, "Hey, doesn't that look like Brainiac? Should we do that?"

Wasp's a great example of this disconnect. Yes, Wasp bothers me too. Not really because she looks like a Japanese schoolgirl (cuz I luvs me some anime when it's good). It's because she doesn't look like she was designed to be a part of this team, but instead is a refugee from some previous design brief long since forgotten elsewhere.

But...

If you're already a fan of the Avengers property, take what I said with a grain of salt. I'm betting that If I were already a fan of the Avengers property (i.e., if I already had an emotional connection with them and/or their original stories), it might would have come across somewhat differently, that I'd have been more forgiving. But personally, without any nostalgia factor, I thought the show was way too much of a mess to keep watching.

Sadly, Wasp's outfit is one of her better ones. She has a million horrible costumes and she is supposed to be a designer or something.

I love it! ((And love the other disney stab at iron-man in younger years, thought i would hate that one))

Unlike a lot of hero shows, this one seems to actually have some action (and ant-man actually uses his abilities...unlike other ones he is in where he shrinks sometimes and thats about it).

After the first 2 intro episodes where they all go bat-crazy on gravity guy, I was hooked

I enjoy the show, for what it is, but I totally understand where you're coming from. The show feels like a giant collection of compromises.

I just don't see this. I get the feel that the show is trying to display the formation of a team of several super-powered individuals who are used to going it alone. And I think it's doing a good job at that.

I love this show. what got me hooked was the writers treating this like an ongoing drama as opposed to just another cartoon. Things are completely resolved in a neat half hour block. Things like how panther was introduced to the team, or the whole skrull invasion.

Also not crazy about the music. Seems like the hired the house band and asked them "What can you whip up in a day, or less?" But the animation seemed cool. I just love how influential Batman TAS and JLU were, everyone is trying to be like them now.

But why are people linking to bad intros? Why not link to a good one?

Eugh. Never been a fan of the music in that. The intro itself was awesome, but getting a couple Japanese girls to start singing it was just...not something I looked forward to listening to.

Given it litterally costs you nothing to watch, you don't have to catch it when it airs(making your trailer comparsion moot to this.), and if you love these characters in the past or super heroes in general there's a good chance you will like this show is all everyone is getting at. Taking an ignorance stance and bothering to come into the thread about just seems silly on multiple levels because you aren't even giving an educated opinion or contributing anything productive to the topic. Just feels like crap stirring for sake of going against the crowd. Not because it's cool or even a good cop out for not doing something. So if you get railed in this thread, don't be surprised by the backlash. So simply be as done with this thread quickly as you were with the show and save everyone else some time if you don't care to form a real opinion.

Couldnt agree more....my 7 yr old and I watch every Sunday Morning now as part of our weekend ritual (added Young Justice to the weekend ritual as well) and he loves it. We walk around quoting the one-liners to each other just to annoy the wife.....

Leader: I was going to remake the world in my own image
Hulk: Thats the problem, youre ugly

Good times.

I do particularly enjoy the built in drama between Stark and Cap. This was Tonys idea and like some extremely intelligent people, feels he is a natural leader when he lacks some social skills, while Cap is an inspiration to everyone around him and cant help but be a leader. Im sure thats going to come to a head, along with the Kree/Skrull War, and everything else this season....

Another thing I like are the peeks at the larger Marvel Universe around the Avengers. I.E., the cameos by Mr Fantastic and Wolverine (well, by James Howlett in 1943, at least), the headlines you see on newspapers like "Secret School for Mutants?" and Stark saying "Guess who I ticked off today? I'll give you a hint, his name rhymes with 'Boom.'"

There's also a line from the episode with Mockingbird where Grim Reaper mentions meeting with "the fat man" in New York, and that he'll agree to stay out of Hydra's way.

It's inevitable that a cartoon empire like the Timmverse is going to cause other people to think that that is what similar cartoons HAVE to look like in order to be successful, but I'm glad that they didn't completely give in to the angular blockiness of the usual anTIMMation look. The Avengers are given a more human look while still having the same powerful feel of the typical "triangular-torsoed, gorilla body" that characters of the Batman, Superman and JL shows had in the Timmverse.

One thing I really like about the character design is that I can definitely see a lot of Kirbyesque touches to the character designs and scenery, especially in the Thor intro episode. It's a nice way to distinguish the character as not just Timmverse copies.

I'm only a few episodes in but I hope they'll keep the good voice actors coming. I recognized Jeffrey (Dr. Herbert "Re-Animator" West) Combs as the Leader and Clancy (Highlander's "Kurgan", DCAU's "Lex Luthor" and SpongeBob's "Mr. Krabs") Brown as Odin so far and hopefully there's more to come since it seems like they're actually interested in good voice acting in this series.

Maybe that's just how the animators feel most comfortable with in terms of style? I don't know why it has to be them copying another series. Plenty of shows have and have had simpler designs. Feels like everyone in here feels the need to compare this show to JLU.

And yeah, gotta agree with the good voice actors so far.

I thought I saw one newspaper headline that read 'EXCELSIOR'.

Ayup, and a few others....

Hulk is voiced by Fred Tatasciore, who voiced Saren in Mass Effect and Damon Baird in the Gears of War series. In fact, he's voiced Hulk in several other Marvel animated productions.

Ant-Man/Giant Man is voiced Wally Wingert, who is the current announcer for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He also voices MODOK on the show.

JARVIS and Wonder Man is voiced by Phil LaMarr, of Mad TV fame, and voice of such characters as Samurai Jack, Green Lantern (John Stewart) on JL/JLU, and a billion other shows and video games.

Wasp is voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who has done a lot of anime VO work, from Digimon (Sora) to Bleach (Nel) to Naruto (Ino).

He's best known, of course, as the "It's Spider-Man" guy on the train at the end of Spider-Man 2.

Love this cartoon so far and, incidentally, one of the things that made me look forward to it was an interview Phil Lamarr had with IGN, I think, before the show aired. Don't remember all that he said but he showed up to the interview loaded down with real, honest-to-gosh comics after having gotten his weekly pickup. Made me feel good that there were folks involved who knew their stuff and not just saying "Oh yeah, I used to love comics as a kid". Certainly helped with the Timmverse stuff.
