Any characterization of this as having "less slots" involves twisting of a kind I think Reed Richards would find beyond his capabilities.

You don't have any less slots than you had before. You just happen to have more power choices.

Oh no, more flexibility!

Castle,

All I have to say is...

We're getting extra slots with the Incarnate system.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Hmmm...instead of making the entire Fitness Pool inherent, I would have left it where it is and dealt with end directly.

It's possible that a person may not want swift at all or hurdle at all. I run fast enough with no sprint on my elec/elec brute due to Lightning Reflexes. I don't need another speed enhancing power. That's just one example.

What I would have done is create an entirely new inherent that is slottable, and have it directly lower the end consumption for ALL powers. That way, people could opt out of fitness(or take only those powers they needed) and save some slots they would have used for end reductions. You'd only have to apply slots to the inherent and it would lower your overall end consumption.

Otherwise, I'd have the fitness pool powers be 'dormant' until an enhancement is slotted into them...thus unlocking the powers. So that if I didn't want the +jump from hurdle, I wouldn't get it unless I actively slotted the power.

I suppose we'll see how this plays out. I certainly would be interested in hearing the dev reasoning behind doing this after all this time. Mostly for curiosity's sake.

How so? If you slot the inherent Fitness powers the same as the pool ones, you have the same number of slots used but one pool and three power choices freed up. There are quite a few powers that don't require slotting: Stealth, Recall Friend, a second travel power, Assault, APP powers like Hibernate or Rise of the Phoenix, etc...

At worst, you can just grab Assault, Tactics, and Vengeance or take Stealth, Grant Invisibility, and Invisibility and pop a LotG in each. Think of it as getting three extra powers but no additional slots... worst case, you keep the exact same build you have and toss in three situational / set mule powers. Best case, you actually add powers you need. Either way you're at least a little better off...

I'm pretty sure you just answered your own question there.

That, and people on this forum have the tendency to turn even changes that most everyone sees as good into DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, as evidenced by this very thread.

I vote for this to be Apex's look. I HATE the look of full Vanguard in that color combo. Also... any word on changing the look of ALL the Merit Vendors to be less hideous?

Once again, some excitingly positive news from you guys!

I have to admit, while I love this idea of the Fitness Pool being inherent... I am a little wary about Swift and Hurdle being slapped on to every character.
They add a noticeable difference to running and jumping (Hurdle more so for me, but each person's mileage may vary).
It's not a hugely negative concern, but it is something that could threaten the feel of individual characters a bit. Just a thought. If there were some way to refuse one of those powers, it might be cool. Maybe unslotted Hurdle doesn't do as much as I am thinking at the moment.

Again... not a big negative, but just something that came to mind when hearing it.

Hehe, completely agree. If nothing else, this can allow you to take a few powers for flavor. Not to mention possibly take some other powers earlier than you did before.

One last thing... I would really like to see Power Pool Customization moved to priority (Just my opinion).

Hmm so i19 is no longer Incarnates, that seems to have been delayed. Instead it is the preview (with the addition of a single TF) that was supposed to be shipped with GR...but was delayed.

Inherent fitness sounds cool enough. extra 3 lotg for free on any build that desires it now. Or the ability to fit in full fighting or leadership on builds that couldn't fit it before will make the trivial task of softcapping many toons even more trivial. So I guess that is nice. Nice to hit the Staples "easy button" when making builds after all.

lolz little reason most builds can't have vengence now. I'd probably fit it on most builds by lvl 20 with these changes because if the game wasn't easy enough before (and it is) just hit vengence. hmm lvl 20-50 now a total cake walk for virtually every team because surely 1 or 2 members will have enough insight to think like me.

Really opens up the ability to ensure you have phase and perception on pvp builds. That would be great if pvp didn't suck so badly since i13...

The rest is just a lot more of the usual "It's eventually coming, please have faith that we will eventually deliver. Please don't leave". That tune has been played so many times the needle has worn the record clean through.

Not seeing anything in i19 that makes me remotely want to resub. Sorry but 1 slot of the super amazing promised "end game" content probably wouldn't occupy me for a month of fitting the 5 or so toons I'd bother to put it on.

Nice try...I guess.

I like the sound of the changes, so far. I think I hope we DON'T get a word on the "why" of the changes, because that will just fuel more argument over whether the reasons were good reason or bad reasons, right reasons or wrong reasons. Instead of, how is this going to make the game more fun, and how will the strategies and tactics about using the new rules affect our gameplay.

I can't understand how people see this as any sort of negative with what we know right now, and it gives people at the very least, greater flexibilty in their builds. I suspect many alternative ideas were examined, including boosting base regen and recov rates, and I trust that the devs figured out that wouldn't work. Not that they're perfect, and discussion is obviously a good thing, but jeez guys, this is a total win (except for potential power creep). With that one exception, this seems to support one overarching idea: that no matter how huge a boon one gives a group of players, some people will inevitable see the Eeeeebil inherent in the Good.

Doom on!

Yes, it means that unless you re-allocate slots from other powers there won't be any extra slots for the 3 EXTRA POWERS you can now choose. Your choices are:

1.) Pick powers that don't need extra slots. There are plenty to choose from.
2.) Bite the bullet and shave a slot here and there if necessary.
3.) Invest in a few IOs to help shave off a few slots to reallocate.
4.) Don't ever respec that build -- problem solved.

Why do people always make mountains out of molehills?

So when Fitness becomes Inherent and everyone has Sprint and Swift, could we PLEASE get the retar... um unreliable and slow AI for Lead Outs bumped so we don't have to keep running 5 feet, wait 10 seconds for Numbnutz McCaptured D00D to catch up and run 5 feet, wait 10 seconds for Numbnutz McCaptured D00D to catch up and run 5 feet, wait 10 seconds for Numbnutz McCaptured D00D to catch up and run 5 feet, wait 10 seconds for Numbnutz McCaptured D00D to catch up until we get through 4 elevators and 400+ yards of herky jerky "following" and "Oh Noes Mr./Mrs. Hero/Villain/Rogue/Vigilante Type... I seem to only be able to walk at the speed of a Trainer/Arbiter, Please walk back those 20 feet so that I know how to follow you" until we finally get them out?

On topic, issue 19 appears to be a mini issue which disappoints slightly, much like the introduction of Cimerora. Cimerora was interesting, but after the ITF, didn't offer much.

However, the hush-hush top secrecy surrounding I20 has this 75-month vet waiting with bated breath.

Just going to chime in with a bunch of other people to try go get something through to the devs: If that's Apex in that slide he looks terrible. Nothing is wrong with his comic book appearance. Use it.

combined with this has made me a little less paranoid about the super-secrit i20 beta. Crossing my fingers that it's that and the devs aren't stupid.

As for the inherent Fitness, since it'll be slottable and available from level 1 (or close enough to it), the only question I have left is, will the values be the same as they currently are? If so, then no problem.

They specifically noted that the NDA-controlled CB for Issue 20 stuff will be BEFORE the regular beta for 19. They admitted that this was odd, but there are a few specific strange things in 20 that they needed tested well in advance.

There will presumably be a more normal beta for 20 after 19 is out.
