Mystic Fortune Annoyance

Can someone please enlighten me as to why Mystic Fortune was made so I cannot reject it? Why take away the choice of the player?

I generally HATE drive-by buffers. Especially so if I'm soloing and want to gauge the performance of my toon without inspirations etc. Why would I want someone to arbitrarily place a buff on me at that point? Why can I not at least delete the power if I don't want it?

How was this change deemed an improvement?

I just got The Fool cast on me by a random player and I spent 20 minutes running around a mission like I was on crack when that was the LAST thing I wanted. Is there an option to turn those buffs off in the options menu that I missed?

Removing my right to choose if I want a 20 minute buff cast on me or not seems like a pretty invasive thing to do.

Cue: Bi-monthly Drive-by buffing debate.

Popcorns and folding chairs available in back.

(So Mystic Fortune's now like every other buff in the game? O noes?)

They removed the pop-up decline box at the request of players who were being annoyed with it from what I've heard.

Back when the Safeguards were introduced, the buffs granted by them all came with FX. I personally hated the FX of the movement buff as it ruined the immersion on some concepts.
I found that if I right clicked the buff icon and hit delete it would remove the buff entirely.
Not sure if this would apply to Mystic Fortune too but it's worth a try.

Firstly, does this occur bi-monthly? I'm not even on the boards enough to check.

Every other buff in the game lasts for 20 minutes? I must have missed that memo. If someone passes by and gives me an Inertial Reduction buff and I don't want it, I can at least wait it out for the few minutes it will take to go away. If I don't want a Mystic Fortune, I have to frikkin' deal with it for 20 minutes!

I don't think that works. With the safeguard buff there is a delete option when you right click. With the Mystic Fortune, there is only a 'Remove from Tray' option. Which really doesn't make any sense anyway.

I wish they had left it optional and have the ability to resist it.

The Fool is no good when in critical parts of a mish. Most of my toons are not IOed out and do suffer a bit when I get hit with that fortune. I kinda gave up on IOs due to prices.

Once I realized it was akin to dogs sniffing each other, I got over the annoyance and just laugh.

The prompt was taken away because if left alone the buff(s) could/did get exploited (from what I gather from what the devs have said).

Nope, 20 minutes.

It is 20 minutes.

I can't argue with the aesthetics 'problem', beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if the -3% ToHit is significantly affecting gameplay, then, quite frankly, you're doing it wrong.

<turns on Group Fly and gives everyone -20% ToHit>

Nope, it's 20. I would like them to put back in the decline/accept option, though. I know it's to fix an exploit, but I'd like a workaround. I mostly just want it so The Fool doesn't get recharged on me when a teammate tries to be helpful. That power really doesn't help much in a Posi run with all the -to hit.

I could live with an option setting to just auto-decline Mystic Fortune.

If this was a response to an exploit, then I can understand it as a stop gap fix.

But I'm going to be really annoyed if this is the permanent solution.

Also...just an option to delete the buff from my toon would suffice. 20 minutes is a bit too long to live with something that I don't want. Either than or make it a team-only type of buff.

Safeguard Buffs are buffs. Just really long term ones.

Mystic Fortune Buffs are temporary powers.

And they removed that option because there was an exploit with Walk. You could stack multiple fortunes at once.

IMO that is a great response. Everybody that doesn't like it should do this everytime.

And IMO, that is ridiculous and serves to back up the flow of actual bugs! Now the people who have to sort through those things have to deal with a bunch of reports for something that they not only know about, and did intentionally, but ISN'T a bug!

When i play my tank, i hate Speed boosts, and the Mystic Fortune has one of those..i always declined those, and now i'm stuck with them

One time i was gonna herd a mob into a ball, but just before i hit the mob someone read my fortune, got stuck breaking my nose on every wall for the next 20 minutes!

Please give us back the option to decline these!!!!!!

Eesh, complaining about drive-by buffing/healing is really obnoxious - someone does a random act of kindness and everyone immediately latches onto to some incredibly minor detail to ***** about. Admittedly the fool thing can be very slightly annoying in very certain circumstances, but what can you do? There's a million possible bad things that could happen, you just learn to deal with them.

Eh, they listen to some bug reports and deal with them pronto.

Just mention that it affects you getting badges when filing the bug reports.

Unfortunately, the problem arises when different interpretations of the act come into play. You may look at it as "kindness" because it offers a buff, and buffs improve your stats, and bigger numbers are good. However, others look at it as tantamount to "griefing" due to their stats being impacted at all. They like the challenge or want to test a build in a give situation, and adjusting variables outside their control is an annoyance. In a similar way, some have issues with the visual, and still others suffer from performance issues that make the Fool buff almost as big of a hinderance as Speed Boost.

Therefore, either give ALL buffs the ability to be cancelled by the player, or leave it as it is now and give NONE of them that ability. Changing just [Mystic Fortune] is stupid, IMO.

Some buffs can make a toon almost unplayable (like my scrapper.) Saying that a person that doesn't want a buff is really obnoxious isn't right. I have watched buffers go around and look for the people that don't like buffs just to bug them. I've even been kicked off of a team because I asked someone to please not give me a SB (oh noes! I'm slowing you down.. wait, I'm beating you to the next mob and my end isn't going down... guess you really do need the SB.) Buffers that refuse to stop buffing someone after being asked to stop are just as bad as the people the demand buffs over and over again after they already have them.

Adding a way for someone to delete a troublesome buff isn't that much to ask for. It would let the trigger happy buffers buff to their hearts content and let the people that don't want the buffs run free from the people that don't listen.

Oh, and a "random act of kindness" to someone that doesn't want it is not showing kindness at all.

I don't like it because I feel bad if I don't use mystic fortune back and so I have to dig it out of my powers list.

I'd like that option with every buff in the game - or have a setting in the option menu where we can auto-decline all buffs at once.
