Mystic Fortune Annoyance
Heh, I knew my post, above, would be too long.
I find people's dismissal of other people's opinions so obnoxious, yet so very typical.
What... Logic is in here? Oh dear, skip that, let's go back to attacking.
Good job
With no prompt, Mystic Fortune should be brought into line with other buffs. I don't think any duration of a player cast buff lasts longer than 4 minutes (I could be wrong).
Most are 2-4 minutes in duration. Mystic Fortune lasts for 20 minutes. That is a huge difference (5-10 times the duration).
It also lasts through defeats. And logging out (It's still there when you log back in). It is also highly prevalent, since it isn't based on any AT. Every single character on an account has it if they bought the Magic Booster... and, clearly, it is a popular booster (Most are). Look at all the high collared capes and boleros.
The sound bothers some. The graphics bother some. The buffs bother some. The debuffs bother some. All for a number of varied reasons.
Just because none of these may bother you, it doesn't make these people hyper-sensitive twits.
Do you mock people for all their taste differentials? Mock those who like opera? Laugh at those who like rap? Insult anyone who doesn't like dance music?
Once you begin to understand that people enjoy and dislike different things, then you can begin to find a better coexistence for all.
Or, you know, you can just be "cool" and call people whiners and put down people's attempts at expressing their opinion of a recent change.
This Mystic Fortune issue is not the same old Drive-By Buff Hate, no matter how many times people want to lump it all together.
Anyone can wait 4 minutes for a buff to go away if it really adversely affects their game. 20 minutes is an entirely different matter. And I think that something should be done about it. Either bring back the prompt or lower the duration to be inline with other player cast buffs.
[Well... too long again for most to read, probably... Oh well, that's what happens when attempting to express things instead of just bickering and mocking and such]

You know what I find annoying? When I throw out a random SB then they give me back a Mystic Fortune!!!! So then I just Mystic Fortune them back!!
You know what else I hate about Mystic Fortune? Why do robots and scientists and mutants and aliens cast it on me? It's only for wizards!

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

i don't get why it lasts for 20 minutes, that's a little silly
otherwise i don't see a problem with it
They see me buffin', they be hatin'...
Yes.
Yes.
Nope, I make fun of them as well...
I agree that it would be handy for there to be a toggle so people can refuse buffs... But that's a Dev issue, not a player issue. People doing "drive by" buffs are generally trying to be helpful, hating on them is like hating on someone because they held a door for an old lady who had her hands full of packages - That old lady may take that as a big huge insult, a sleight against her independance and/or a knock on her for being old!
I suppose one could ask each and every time before they buffed or held a door open but *sheesh* really?

This isn't about any buffer hatred.
It's about:
- Mystic Fortune being highly prevalent (Cast from any AT)
- Mystic Fortune lasts 20 minutes (5-10 times the duration of any other Player Cast Buff)
- Mystic Fortune casts a random buff that may or may not be appropriate for the user and may include a debuff (Personal preference indeed, but that's what this is about)
- Mystic Fortune: This is about Mystic Fortune. Not drive-by buffing hatred. Mystic Fortune is very different than any other power in the game and came with a prompt. That prompt was included for a reason. It was taken out because exploiters found a way to take advantage of it. The power was not changed, therefore likely making it reasonable to still include the prompt or some sort of balancing factor.
The way it used to be, people had a choice.
The way it is now, all the people who dislike the buff (For any of a number of reasons) have to deal with it for 20 minutes. You can't lose it by being defeated nor by logging out. It's an all out win for those who don't care and an all out loss for those who do. The prompt was a beautiful compromise. If the prompt must be kept out, this one particular and unique (Until the mutant booster comes out, hehe) should really be changed in order to meet that similar balance of happiness across playstyles.

See... now that is a classic case of inventing (Or rewriting) a complaint to counter and/or lumping one new issue within a slogan...

I already tried it your way. It apparently doesn't work.

Interesting... Hmmm, let's go back and look at the original post in the thread, shall we?
Can someone please enlighten me as to why Mystic Fortune was made so I cannot reject it? Why take away the choice of the player?
I generally HATE drive-by buffers. Especially so if I'm soloing and want to gauge the performance of my toon without inspirations etc. Why would I want someone to arbitrarily place a buff on me at that point? Why can I not at least delete the power if I don't want it? How was this change deemed an improvement? I just got The Fool cast on me by a random player and I spent 20 minutes running around a mission like I was on crack when that was the LAST thing I wanted. Is there an option to turn those buffs off in the options menu that I missed? Removing my right to choose if I want a 20 minute buff cast on me or not seems like a pretty invasive thing to do. |
*shrug*
PSSST! This is too logical and sensible. You need to add in some hate and/or insults so that people can take it seriously and call you a lame whiner...

Wow, I wonder how Castle managed to pull this off while still getting rid of that exploit. Awesome job.
...
So yes, you can legitimately make the argument that it is about MORE than buffer hatred but unless you missed the part of Slashman's original thread starting post that said "I generally HATE drive-by buffers." then you must logically grant that it is also, at least in part, about buffer hate. *shrug* |
That slant always skews this particular issue, because it's different (More extreme) due to the nature of Mystic Fortune. That's even the point he was making, I think. Regardless, I had forgotten, at this point, what exactly was in the original post, hehe.
I know you know how it is when you're trying to make a reasonable point and it constantly gets drowned out by overstatements (On either side) based on long-running debates.
Anyways... moot points, all of this?
EDIT: I should buffer my excitement with the Test Patch Notes with the fact that it is only on Test and may still have to be reverted. So, we'll see!

Well great work on the part of the dev(s) that fixed it.
I do agree that I did, in fact, state that I hated drive-by buffers. Of course I also clarified that it was drive by buffing itself that I disliked later on.
In any case we can all let this thread die a natural death now.

It is the fair middle ground between the differing opinions.
No one likes the prompt, but it is what makes things equal between the two camps.
I don't think anyone would disagree that an always auto accept/decline checkbox would be nice... But until they do that, we'll all have to give a Yes or No to get what we want.

Can *we* whine and complain now to get it changed back? Why not?
Thanks, crybabies.
It's always going to upset somebody.
I just wish it was back to upsetting the "Waahh, me no like buffs" crowd, and not myself and the rest of the "Wooo, free buffs!" crowd.

Couldn't they add an option to turn the prompt on or off like they do for teleport? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Adding a way to turn off the prompt for those that want it on auto is the only way all sides will be happy. That would even work for all buffs. It would make a huge options menu to set each buff settings, but it would end the buff fights because people that don't want it don't have to worry about the drive-by buffers and everyone else wouldn't have to click a prompt.
