no blinds
QR
There's a summary in the last paragraph as it's a longer post than I thought it was going to be!
I'm afraid mrxxx that I'm with quite a few people here. I have my search text set to say variations of "No Blinds" (I try to make it Character specific, so The Fashion Police text is "Blind Invites aren't cool" etc...)
This isn't because I'm rude or arrogant (or at least I don't think it is, and it's certainly not the impression I want to give) but because I have a pathological hatred of the "nu txt spk tht dsnt thnk vwls r prt f nglsh." I like a fun, chatty team where I can have a laugh and a joke, chat with people and if we beat up a few bad guys (or good guys, or other bad guys) then so much the better.
For me teaming is a social thing. Sometimes I just want to beat the bejeesus out of something and then I usually solo. If I'm looking for a team then I'm looking for a particular type. Unfortunately CoX doesn't have a setting for "Looking for socially adept, linguistically capable team with a sense of humour" tag.
I can however promise you that, if you do send me a /tell I will respond. And if I can't join for whatever reason then I will thank you for the invite, explain why and wish you the very best of luck.
On the subject of the star - I don't mind being the team recruiter, but I really can't stand the whole team leader thing of picking missions, choosing tactics and the like. I love to send out battalions of tells asking people to join my team, again because it's a social thing so I get to speak to even more people.
So, to summarise, basically I'm a gobby chatterbox who doesn't know when to shut up (but I'm sure you guessed that from the length of this post!) however I can't lead a team for toffee.

you just wont get it, will ya? when i/we have "no blinds" in search comment it's because we DO NOT LIKE BLIND INVITES (i hope this shows just how much i HATE blind invites), so dont invite without a tell. we just want a little information. and if you take the time to give us this you'll see that we are just as nice as those who do not have anything in search comment.

In my opinion the request is enough. It is possible to say yes or no.
[/ QUOTE ]
in my opinion it's not enough. please respect that. i would rather have a tell saying "LTF?" in my chat window than a invite window pop up in the middle of the screen. that's the annoying thing here. you dont have any idea what i'm doing. i could be fighting a mob, trying to click an enemy og placing a location AoE, or maybe TPing high above the city. then a window in the middle of the screen is very annoying.
[ QUOTE ]
Clearly if you've flagged yourself as 'looking for any team' you don't much mind what the team is doing.
[/ QUOTE ]
the problem is: i'm NOT flagged for LFT. i'm at the default setting "not looking for any" and noone seems to respect that these are not the same. in my experience very few people actually bother to flag them selves as LFT. the vast majority simply stay at default "not looking for any"

Most of my alts have a comment in their search box that reads 'A tell first is polite'.
Then if I get blinded I have a fair idea of what kind of person is sending the invite and whether they share the same attitude as the OP. In which case they'd be getting a 'No' response.
If I'm flying the green flag (and I think I must be one of the few that use it) I'm fair game but most blind invites I've responded to end in disaster.

I will generally put "No blind invites please" in all my toon search comment boxes for a few reasons. It is annoying having the box appear in the middle of the screen, espcially when I already have WW, recipes and Salvage all open when im buying selling.
It also gives me the oppurtunity to decline politely. Unless I accidently miss the tell I will always a respond with 'yes please' or a 'Not right now thanks - Im logging soon/Im doing some bits before I outlevel them/Im sorting some enhancements on my toon etc".
Sending tells also gives you the oppurtunity to get potential members. If someone is solo on a mission map they can't get team invites, but they can get tells. I know a few times I have just started a mission, and got a tell invite so I have exited and joined the team. Other times Im already half way through it but will happily join afterwards.

I find it fascinating that someone that puts such sted by reading comments in a little box that isn't big enough to read a full comment at times. Misses such an important point in the quoted text.

On the time I was running the Atta mission in The Hollows and wanted to bring some people who may not have seen it due to Paper missions and such, I checked the list and found unteamed people before sending them this tell.
Hey, would you like a team for a level 15 mission facing Atta in The Hollows? Trolls, Heroic Difficulty.
That doesn't take long to type, provides information on the mission level, the difficulty, the mob type and the location.

Well yes I can't disagree. You should never throw abuse at people. I just ment more along the lines of complain. If you have LFT set and no comment, you shouldn't complain if someone just sends an invite.

See politeness breeds politeness.
Personally I dont use the looking for any and I am often on "looking for missions" if I get a blind I'll join, look and see what the selected mission is. If I dont want to do it I'll leave without saying a word. That's about extending the same amount of effort. I refuse to let anyone out lazy me!

You bad!
Seriously though, blind invites do get a bit annoying after four years of the things. Might just seem like a click at first glance but that dialog has a bad habit of appearing right in the middle of the screen, right where you are trying to click to do something else. After being here for a long time, a lot of people find things to do which don't include meandering around defeating things and waiting for teams to be set up. For those people, that dialog is an intrusion.
Anyway, we are obviously going to have to agree to disagree on this one otherwise we'll be discussing it till GhostRaptor gets fed up and kills the thread.

sorry to spoil your fun but i have absolutely no idea what that means, so no.
i would most likely reply with a "no thx" since there is no useful information in the tell (level, missiontype, etc.).

Two words - Cut/paste
My views:
Blinds - intrussive, and I'll have to be in the mood to accept one, which is rare.
LFT? tell + invite - see blinds
LFT? tell - less intrussive, and I'll have to be in the mood to even answer it, regardless if it's Yes or No - really no different then a blind, but less intrussive.
Tell with team/lvl information - Gets a response when I can, high chance of me joining if I'm free.
If I'm flagged as "Looking for..." I'll usually accept a blind. Though if the name of the inviter is in l33t or lacking in caps, miss use of caps or something rather silly, there's still a good chance that I'll decline it. - Those things bother me, so I won't let it bother me further and won't bother them with it.
I also dislike having the star, not because of the recruitment bit, but because I dislike the responsibility.
I generally have little trouble getting a full team when I set out to do so. I use the following tell for just about every occasssion:
/t $target, Hi, want to join a lvl #ish team for missions?
On the occassion I'm doing a specific mission, I'll try to include that.
I don't shy away from asking lvl 50s when I can't find people around my own lvl, there's a good chance they're willing to exemp, and as I state the lvl of the team, I hope it's clear I'm asking they exemp and it's not a PLing bit.
Story time!
I once got a blind invite from a lvl 12 while I was a lvl 29 scrapper. The leader was mute and at least the team members were speaking and offering exemps... I didn't except, instead I cleared two sewer rooms before leaving. I did appologize to the other team members (in team so leader could read) for my behaviour due to annoyance at the leader's idiocy. I got a few tells upon leaving the team saying it was alright and they felt for the situation I was in.
One evening I was in an SG base with a couple of friends RPing, teamed up. I got a tell saying "invite please", so (feeling in a bitchy mood) I invited him as he requested. He then asked where the mission was (none were selected) and I said there was no mission. It didn't take too long before he noticed that we were not teaming and quit.
Hmmm, from these occassions, I guess I can be a bit of an [censored] when dealing with rude people.
On the other hand, when I do feel like teaming for an extended period, I usually inherrit the star and often at the end of the day, I've recieved a compliment or two.

If the person sending me a blind is too lazy to inform me of at least the level of their team I wont be taking the trouble of finding out their level.
I just think it shows a lack of manners if you wont ask someone first before sending an invite. It's pretty much like giving someone an empty piece of paper and not telling them what you want them to do with it.
As someone has said, if you dont show respect you should expect arrogant responses.

i find if you just send the tell "hi u lft all?" then immedietely send the invite regardless then you can fill a team in a mish or 2. I'm pretty sure thats not far off being a blind invite but noone has ever said anything.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well no, I wouldn't - just give the dialog a dirty look and press the "No" button.
[/ QUOTE ]
and hey presto i know that the last spot isnt for you. i can then move on and fire out the next one.
i try and not fire out 2 when theres only one spot. this method means i (and another six people) don't have to waste our time hoping that you are thoughtful enough to reply in a sensible time frame, if at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's fair enough - when I'm not tied up doing something else (combat, chain TP, etc...) I will immediately reply to tells in the same spirit they're sent, which is either "Sure, invite please" or "Sorry, busy with XXXX" depending.
A tell+invite is - as you say - near enough a blind though, so again in the same spirit I reply with a single press of the "No" button even if I might otherwise be inclined to team. My nose, I'll cut it off if I want to.
