Read the title.

While i think CoH has some of the best combat in any MMO ever, Eventually i get bored and want to start teaming/roleplaying and such, So i'm curious as to how many of you folks would join in on that, and how many of you are from virtue xD.

My last day of playing is going to be 10/20/2012 when I do my 24 game-a-thon for Extra Life.

I may log in and chat some after that and also plan on being there for sunset.

Emulator.. Nah no thanks.
It was a great run while it lasted, but the only thing that would get me to continue to play CoH in any form would be if it was properly being supported by a dev team and updated.

I would show up to play.

Not even completely sure what an emulator entails or do. But if it's an "illegal" underground one, I'm not touching it with a 10 foot pole.

Pretty much this.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Those guys..."NC SOFT" killed the game we all knew and loved. If an legal emulator shows up that can restore once was sure, if not I highly doubt it.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

I think it really depends exactly on what the emulator does. Having looked at another server emulator development project, it's taken it's small development team somewhere between 4-5 years to get the game to operate as it was during it's 2002 release, with some bits from later updates thrown in.

I don't know what the experience level of the Titan coders is, but these projects do take time, and it could be a while before Emulated!CoX is back up to where the game is today. I'm not sure I could play the game without the QoL improvements made since the original release.

I would play an emulaor.

I am wondering what people's reasons are for playing or not playing an emulator. Is it a moral reason? Paranoia?

My reason is because I can make my own fun through the costume creator and roleplaying, so even if an emulator is buggy and missions are lacking, there's still plenty to do. I'm not afraid of legal repercussions because its highly unlikely to happen. Should the original game be revived, I'd go back in a heartbeat. If the real thing exists, what need is there for the emulator after all?

and at one point it was highly unlikey this game would shutdown this year. Unlikely the effort to save it would succeed yet people chose to try anyways. Sometime the "unlikely" is not a large part of the decision.

Yet, mostly base the decision off the legality of it. To me there is no point in me investing time and or money in something that is just an email or snitch away from being shutdown especially when a perfectly legal game has been found for me to play.

I would try it out, illegal or not.

Would I stick around? That would depend on what the new "devs" do with it.

Be well, people of CoH.

This, not really concerned about the legal aspect of it, would depend more on how good of an emulation it was and how stable etc...

if I could play the same game as I do today (assuming a character wipe) I would do so

I don't need content updates or game updates (although i24 would be nice)

The last time I tried to get in on something like that was with Ragnarok Online, and after wrestling with it for awhile with no success I gave up.

An emulator only begins to be useful if I can get it to work with little headache. For *this* game, I think I'd only bother if it also allowed me to play the game stand-alone and I could modify things like rate of XP/Merits/etc.

The missus and I have been a dynamic duo in this City for 8 years. It's where we meet when I'm on the road for work and it's where we relax together when I'm home. We bring characters to life in this world and discover so many other characters that others have created.

If there's a way to continue that experience a while longer, we'd both do more than try it. We'd give it our support.

I would definitely play on a private server. My experience with one for the "800 Pound Gorilla" was very favorable.

It really depends on the community participation.

If it's just me running as god in my own little world? It'd try it, but would probably not play that often. For all that I solo, I still enjoy teaming now and again and if not, the ability to tap friends on the shoulder and say "hi".

If we're talking a private server, and a significant number of people? Yeah, I'd seriously be there.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

Um hell no.

This game is terrible without the community on its A game and the devs releasing good content while also fixing the game (cough AE cough). None of which would happen if an illegal underground emulator of this surfaced.

sorry no rose colored glasses here. Soloing in coh is very ...eh... well boring...

I would. If the modified it so that things like TFs could be started solo and kept everything else the same as now, I'd likely never stop.

I would. I don't even need to be able to do missions. Just want to be able to log in my characters, fly and jump through the city and RP with others. And considering how this game is coming to an end, I don't give a rat's *** if it was illegal.

Unlikely to join into an emulator. I have had bad experience with them in the past.
